PLANNINGS

4

Study Abroad has always been one of my goals as a college student. I hope to broaden my vision, to learn a different culture, and to train myself to be independent by studying in a different country.

[PLANNING]

5

[California that i know] I have been to California twice, and the weather there is always nice. Cal Poly Pomona is located at the southern part of California, and it is only forty minute drive to the biggest city, Los Angeles, in the west coast. Los Angeles has a lot of resources of culture, science, and technology. There are many masterpieces of housing cases in LA because it is perfect place to live. Architects such as “Frank Owen Gehry” left many famous architecture in LA. ”Walt Disney” Concert Hall in downtown Los Angeles, his “private house” in Santa Monica. Likely, Frank Lloyd Wright has many cases of residence in California. ”Ennis house”, ”Hanna Residence” , ”Marin Civic Center ”,” Walker Residence”. Therefore, I would like to go around the city and look at those incredible architectures to improve my vision.

[Improving for my own] [Languages] I hope to improve my English by this opportunity because English is a very important language nowadays. [Lecture] Lectures: Beside Major courses, there are many classes such as landscape architecture and urban planning that I would to take to learn more about the difference of architecture between other countries and my hometown. [Courses] I hope to combine the lectures I learn from Tamkang University and Cal Poly Pomona to understand deeper about the concept of architecture. [Cultures] I would like to spend my free time with local students to learn about foreign country.

Our site stands by “the first” Tamsui fishing wharf where used to be an influential shipping and commerce center. Nowadays, few shabby boats still floating along the riverside. Ancestors used to sail the boats from Taiwan Strait into Tamsui river, that’s why it called at “the first” Tamsui fishing wharf.

Located near the coastline of Tamsui. Near by “The First” Tamsui fishing wharf.

VISUAL LINE from many aspects. Traced back to the time when ancestors still come and back to the wharf. Each time they sailed back to their hometown, they would experienced a strong impression of their path. The experiences of fishermens’ body turned into the memories of spaces. The process of fishermens’ path started from the north east coast of Taiwan. Due to its distance, Taiwan was seen as a tiny bright spot. After they sailed into the Tamsui river, skyline began to raise because of the Datun and Guanyin mountain. Last stop was the riverside. As they approached to their homeland, all the things around suddenly seemed in great scale. Surrounded by the wharf , boats safely laid in the shelter. Simultaneously, the wharf has provided a space of to defend the nature factors and a safe home for fishermen.
