Welcome all to the 2023 Alaska Craft Brew and Barley Wine Festival!
We are excited to welcome you back for another year of the world famous Alaska Brew and Barley Wine festival. This festival is the largest in Alaska and is unrivaled in selection of locally and globally brewed beers. For over three decades, Alaska has hosted one of only two barley wine competitions in the nation. I can think of no better place and time to celebrate these big, flavorful and robust beers, guaranteed to warm even the coldest of souls during the darkness of the Alaska winter. Breweries in Alaska have become world renowned for brewing this traditionally English brew.
In addition to the celebration of barley wine, a vast array of ales, lagers, ciders, meads, hard kombucha and hard seltzers await your palate. Take your time and enjoy this opportunity to find something new, and even a new favorite! Let yourself experiment, try a style that you haven’t before. Be adventurous!
In addition to the largest gathering of brewed beverages in Alaska, this event also serves as a homecoming of sorts for the craft industry in Alaska. Brewers from all over Alaska rarely get to meet in one place and this is our opportunity to forge new friendships and reconnect with our brewing family from the largest geographic brewing community in the world. I encourage you to do the same! Today is your opportunity to try a beer from a brewery whose products come to town but once a year. Additionally, people from all over the U.S. and the world come to town for this event, so maybe make some new friends too!
All we ask is that you consider pacing yourself. While some come for the plentiful samples,on a mission to use all their tickets, the festival is best experienced as a chance to expand your drinking horizons and responsibly enjoy the vibe of passionate people that live to taste something delicious and feel good doing it. Please arrange for a safe ride home. Uber, Lyft, Cabs, your grandmother, whatever. Do not drink and drive! It’s not worth it. And let’s be honest, half the fun of a good night is trying to find your car the next day, followed by the bonus of enjoying Saturday/Sunday brunch at one of the great eateries in downtown.
Be sure to also check out the food stands while you are here. Beer is meant to be part of every meal, breakfast to 2 a.m. snack. So be sure to try out the different food vendors, even try to make some beer and food pairings of your own. If you don’t make it downtown often, definitely use this opportunity to check out some of the local spots - barley wine and empty stomachs do not make for a great pairing.
But enough with me telling you how to live your life. The Brewers Guild of Alaska wants to thank all of you not just for coming to this amazing annual event, but also for supporting our industry! Local beer supports local jobs, and fresh beer is better. The last few years have been extraordinarily challenging for the craft industry, but we wouldn’t have survived without the amazing support of our fans! We live to brew for you so keep on drinking!
- Lee Ellis. President of the Brewers Guild of Alaska

Redhook Brewery
Woodinville, WA
redhook.com
Paul Shipman and Gordon Bowker actually founded Redhook Ale Brewery in Seattle in May 1981 for two reasons: the Pacific Northwest drank more draught beer than anywhere in the country, and the import beer market was growing everywhere. They added a brewery in Woodinville, Wash., and another in Portsmouth, N.H. With bi-coastal breweries, beer drinkers are guaranteed a fresh Redhook Ale no matter where they are.
