32nd ANNUAL
The very first year we produced the Great Alaska Sportsman Show doesn’t seem to have happened that long ago, but most would argue that 32 years is quite a long time ago, indeed. So, I pondered the question:What else happened 32 years ago? The time lapse was put into perspective when I discovered that 32 years ago: the Internet was first created, along with the introduction of Microsoft Word and the first version of a computer mouse; a gallon of gas cost approximately $1.25; the US football league held its very first draft; the first version of a mobile phone was introduced and sold by Motorola; Michael Jackson and The Police dominated our Billboard charts; and Tom Brokaw became the NBC Nightly News anchor. Looking back at what was going on 32 years ago, I can say that we’ve come a long way from a small trade show, with a few hunting and fishing guides talking shop and selling their wares, to Alaska’s largest trade show, with an annual attendance well over 20,000. Every year it seems that the enthusiasm for this show grows along with the participation and attendance, resulting in a show that seems to just get better and better.
Thursday, April 2 through Sunday, April 5, 2015
With this year’s incredibly mild winter, spring fever is already in the air.The best way to satisfy the desire to get out and enjoy Alaska’s outdoors is to start making your spring, summer and fall plans. This year’s show will provide you with hundreds of ideas, inspiration, products and services to jump start your Alaska outdoor adventure plans.
Hours: Thursday, April 2 – 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. Friday, April 3 – 12 noon to 8 p.m. Saturday, April 4 – 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday, April 5 – 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
I’m excited to announce this year’s Great Alaska Sportsman Show is featuring several new companies, with booths on everything from firearm training, outdoor adventure planning, new outdoor tech gadgets, and so much more! So, what does this mean? Well, it means you will see an unimaginable amount of new products, you will hear about all the new outdoor adventures available around the state, and have a brand new selection of guides and tourism companies to book with who will take you on your dream spring, summer, or winter outings. And, we always have something fun for the kids! As always, we will have our Kids’ Fishing Pond, interactive laser shooting range, the bird learning and treatment center, and back by popular demand - the kids archery range!
Admission: Adults: $11 ($10, $1 city tax) Kids: $3 (12 and under) Parking: $6 (or take the Free Shuttle Express)
Shuttle: Free Shuttle Express, courtesy of Premier Alaska Tours, will run throughout the show from the midtown Wal-Mart AND from the back of the Northway Mall (near The Rock Wood Fired Pizza). Buses start running at 3 p.m. on Thursday, 11 a.m. on Friday, and 9 a.m. on both Saturday and Sunday. The shuttles will continue to run one hour after the show closes on all four days.
A lot of hard work, performed by a lot of dedicated volunteers, goes into the Great Alaska Sportsman Show every year. None of our presenters are paid, and they all work hard to prepare relevant and fun material for each audience. Countless groups organize the Kids’ Fishing Pond, the various shooting ranges, casting pond classes, as well as everything else you encounter at each year’s show—so please join me in thanking those volunteers as you encounter them. I hope you find all the advice, destinations, and dreams you are searching for this year! See you all April 2nd through the 5th at the 32nd Annual Great Alaska Sportsman Show.
