Fall Shopping Guide 2016
From the Editor A long weekend has arrived, and so too the last week of the summer holiday. As I have been assessing my own fall wardrobe and contemplating what I need to add, I am finding I am buying far less than I have in past years. Perhaps that is because I am in saving mode for a house, but also because my basics have been found, the groundwork has been laid, and I am more confident that I know exactly where to purchase quality basics so they last when I need them throughout the year. This idea of quality is prevalent on TSLL blog, and it is why you will not see in the Editor’s Finds and TSLL Shop in this shopping guide a lot of trendy, flashy items. Yes, you will see some amazingly stunning outfits in the runway shots in the first few pages, but the reality is, I want to shop for what you might actually want to wear in your everyday life. View the runway images as inspiration. Observe how they mix and match certain textures, how they wear particular accessories, and which colors unexpectedly work well together. The runway is always full of ideas, and the shock value need not scare us away. Having watched years of fashion weeks, I love looking for new ideas to spruce up what I already have. Perhaps a different length of skirt (midi – this season) to pair with the blouses I already have. Or maybe a wider belt to wrap around my shirt dress that is hanging in my closet. I know I can’t afford to completely overhaul my seasonal wardrobe each year, and I have a feeling you can’t either, but the best thing we can do for our wardrobes and for ourselves so that we feel confident walking out the door each day no matter where we are going is to ensure our foundational items look great. And if our white silk shirt needs an update, splurge. It will be worth it, and it will last. Speaking of colors, one color I noticed a lot of in shops was a warm blush. Woven into striped sweaters and offered in long trenches and camisoles, it is beautiful color for certain skin tones. You’ll find two items in this shade below. Suede as well is booming and quite ubiquitous this fall and don’t forget about the block heel. Everywhere! I kid you not.
