Anasi and the Alligator
Once upon a time, Anansi and the big alligator were good friends. One night when Anansi was out late, he went to the alligator and said, “Dear brother, it’s quite late. Will you please let me sleep here tonight?” The alligator politely agreed. Anansi said to the alligator, “Thank you very much for letting me stay, but I don’t want to bother you much. So I will make myself comfortable in your kitchen, and you can sleep comfortably in the house.” During those times, there was usually a kitchen built of stone outside every house. Anansi wanted to stay in the kitchen for the night. “Alright, Anansi. If you insist, you can sleep in my kitchen.” The alligator’s daughter Ama was a wise girl. She knew that Anansi definitely had some motive behind sleeping in the kitchen. Ama had an idea. She went out and caught as many scorpions as she could. Ama knew that at night Anansi would definitely look into the kitchen pots for some food. So, she carefully placed the scorpions into the empty pots. The alligator and Anansi both wished each other goodnight and went to their respective places to sleep. It was a quiet night Anansi waited for everyone to fall asleep. At midnight, he got up quietly and crawled towards the pots. Anansi had seen Ama fill some of the pots with scorpions. He did not touch them and took out food from the rest of the pots. He ate all he could and was very contented. After finishing the food in the kitchen, he started yelling and sucking his hand. The alligator woke up with the noise and asked Anansi if he was comfortable. “Dear brother, the dog fleas are eating me alive. I cannot stay here anymore,” Anansi said and left as he was scared that the scorpions would
escape from the pot and bite him at night. Ama was suspicious of Anansi. She checked if all the food in their pots was intact. “Daddy, Anansi has eaten up all our food. Please go out and catch him immediately,” Ama said to the alligator. The alligator rushed out of his house. While being chased by the alligator, Anansi finally reached the river bank Anansi saw a boat man preparing his boat for sailing. “Take me to the other side of the river and I will give you half my land,” Anansi said to the boatman. The boatman agreed at once and Anansi quickly slipped into his boat. The alligator swam after him but could not catch the boat. Once the boat reached the shore, Anansi asked the boatman to wait, and said that he was going to speak to his father about the land. The boatman waited patiently. Anansi went to his father and narrated the entire incident to him. He instructed his father to tell the alligator and the boatman that he did not know where he was. Anansi started climbing the nearby tree. After a while, the boatman came to Anansi’s father and asked about him.“I haven’t seen him in days. I have no idea where he might be,” the father told the boatman. The alligator looked everywhere but could not find him. “I will never live in a house again if I can’t find you now,” the alligator said. He looked and looked but could not find Anansi and started living in the water ever since.

What is the Difference Between an Alligator and a Crocodile?
It can be difficult to distinguish between alligators and crocodiles as they do have similar body types and colourings. Sometimes, people believe they're interchangeable! However, here are a few ways to differentiate between the two 1. The alligators have a snout that is U-shaped while crocodiles have a narrow and V-shaped snout. 2. Alligators are found in fresh water whereas crocodiles live in both fresh and salt water. Crocodiles have salt glands on their tongue, the excess salt in food and water leaves their body through these glands. 3. Alligators are shy animals and avoid humans, unlike crocodiles. 4. Alligators have 75 teeth, while crocodiles have 24 teeth.

Discoveries and Inventions Who invented the television?
Have you ever wondered about life without television? What if you cannot watch any of your favourite shows- only listen to the radio for some entertainment! We should be thankful to Philo Farnsworth for inventing the first all-electronic television. Philo was always intrigued by machines. When he was still a kid, scientists were talking about inventing a ‘television’; a machine which will have sound and moving pictures. He had the idea of how to invent such a machine- he knew he had to break images into parallel lines of light, capture them, transmit them as electrons and then reassemble them for people to watch. But he did not have the resources or money. Philo went on to work as a radio mechanic but dreamt of inventing the TV. It was when he was in California, he discussed this idea with few businessmen who invested money and after years of failed attempts, Philo finally invented the first all-electronic television set. He broad-
casted the image of his wife, the motivation behind his invention on 25th August, 1934. John Logie Baird is the person who is given credit for inventing the television for the very first time. He experimented in an attic room in London for years until he succeeded in transmitting an old, moving, grayscale image of a talking ventriloquist dummy on a screen in 1925. He called it ‘the Televisor’. By 1930, Baird had managed to develop a system to broadcast simultaneous sound with the images. Baird’s television was mechanical in design. The transmission composed of as less as 30 parallel lines compared to the many pixels we have today. It resulted in small, fuzzy images on the screen. But the television was here to stay. It gained popularity among scientists and investors improvementsunited, started hapto formandEdison-Swan which pening in a fast paced manner.

The children liked Einstein’s trick so much that they wanted more. So, Einstein agreed to show a couple of more tricks.
Nitin handed a peeled boiled egg to Eeshan. Eeshan set a piece of paper on fire and dropped it in a glass bottle with a small mouth. He fit the egg on the mouth of the bottle and said, “Now watch what happens to the egg!”

When the flame went out the egg slowly skidded inside the bottle and fell to the bottom of the bottle inside. One of the children watching asked, “The egg was bigger than the mouth of the bottle, how did it fall in?”
Eeshan said, “The pressure inside the bottle changes with the changing temperature. When I closed the mouth of the bottle with the egg, the volume of air could not be changed inside the bottle. When I heated the constant volume of air, the pressure increased. The higher pressure inside sucked the egg inside and it fell.”
Eeshan continued, “Can you penetrate this apple with this straw you are drinking your fruit juice from?”

“How can that be possible?” said one of the children.
“Science can make it happen,” said Eeshan. Eeshan held the plastic straw up in the air, and closed one of its ends with his thumb. Nitin placed the apple on the table carefully on a piece of paper. Without touching the apple Eeshan thrust the straw inside the apple easily and the straw went through the apple.
Eeshan explained, “This trick comes with practice. It is important to hold the straw right and close it at one end with the thumb. When I do that the air gets trapped in the straw and creates a pressure inside the straw. With the force the straw is able to penetrate the apple.”

I was dozing off in the sun one afternoon, on the banks of a marshy river, when I heard a little thud. I slowly opened my eyes and saw a bright yellow fruit lying a foot away, looking ripe and delicious. Now us alligators aren't well known for it, but we do love our fruit. After I took a bite of this fruit I knew I needed more, but where had it come from?

Damaged bones suggest that dinosaurs were a regular part of the ancient alligator's diet. The pressure exerted when an alligator bites down equals the weight of a small pick up truck. An adult human can hold the jaws of an alligator shut with their bare hands as the muscles used to open the jaw are much weaker. An alligator can go through over 2,000 teeth in its lifetime.
