Second series: Liberaon-bull dog figure
Coreofofmy myproject: pracce: Core In our society, there are many moral standards and restricons which we are forced to follow. I always feel a lot of pressure and restricons from this. Therefore, I want to be liberated from these restricons. This is my profound desire. Answering quesons Why it is relevant? It is everyone’s desire to be free from pressures and restricons in life. What is the goal of this project? I see my art pracce as a release of the mind, just like Art Therapy. Therefore, I hope my work can cure others and have connecon with the audience.
Inspiraon: Aer I read about Freud ideas* and saw some works based on his ideas I started to believe that the process of making art pracce is the reflecon of our subconscious. In Freud’s opinion the typical form is my super ego which is the conformity that I always have to follow in our society. On the other hand, the broken form mof is my id which represents my profound desire for liberty. The ego combines the super-ego and id, so my whole pracce is my ego.
*Frued personality theory:
Id: meeng basic needs ego: dealing with reality super-ego: adding moral

First series - Liberaon-Xingan figure
First series development
I started to think how to express liberaon and conformity. When I think about social restricons I think about our Chinese ritual culture, so I started to find out what images could represent this idea. This bronze bell comes from the Zhou*1 dynasty which is the beginning of our holy moral ritual system. On the other hand, the image of desiring I chose is ‘’Xingan’’*2 which I see as a symbol of our primive desire for liberaon. Ritual bronze bell (represnet super-ego)

The decoraon on the bromze bell
*2 Xingan is a Chinese deity who fights against the Supreme Divinity, not giving up even aer the event of his decapitaon. *1: This bell was made at the beginning of the Warring States period - a me of polical fragmentaon and moral crisis in China. It was in this turmoil that the Chinese polical philosopher Confucius developed his philosophy. Confucius was also a keen musician and saw in music the harmony he wanted to achieve in society.

First series result ID( Xintang body) -desiring
The aim of this piece is to use oriental elements to express the struggle between the id and the super-ego. Aer I finished this work, I evaluated it. I was not happy with the result. I think the figure is too direct and the image is also too objecve. There is no space for imaginaon, and overall this pracce is more like a sculpture and not a piece of art pracce.
Super ego-restricon ( square box, ritual decoraon)
My mistake is that I just reproduce every element that I collect and combine these together which is not a creave way to approach my art, and is also very rigid.
Second series- Liberaďż˝on-bull dog ďŹ gure
Second series development: Id (liberaon) elements: 1. 2.
1. Bull dog 2. Bull dog dumbell
This me I used different elements to develop the same idea. I made a bulldog dumbbell for a client and this works inspired me to start this new series. The reason why I made the form of a bulldog is that bulldogs are a manmade genec modificaon species, therefore they are not born in this figure by nature. For me, they are restricted. The sad facial expression is like a prisoner who desires for liberaon.
Super-ego elements:
1. Dragon robe
2. Babao Ping water
2. Babao Ping water comes from the buon of the empire’s dragon robe which means everything in the world. I use rhe mix clay technic to mimic this decoraon on my works and I see this decoraon as a restricion and con formity from our world and society.
Development: Aer doing some sketches and experiments, I decided to make my new pracce as a broken scale which could be hung on the wall. I want to express the idea that my limitaons are just like a shell which I want to break through to reveal my true self. The improvement of this new series is that I did not combine these elements as directly as the previous one. Therefore, it is less rigid and leaves space for the audiences’ imaginaon.
Thank you for your paence. : Xiu ceramic
