Benjamin Franklin Institute of Technology Graphic Identity Standards
Introduction As faculty, staff, or students, we show our pride in the Benjamin Franklin Institute of Technology by contributing in many ways to its dynamic mission. Using BFIT’s approved artwork guide — the symbols, logotype, and colors we use to represent BFIT visually — when telling the institute’s story is an important way we all support BFIT. Consistent and thoughtful use of BFIT’s visual symbols helps convey the institute’s distinctive history and reputation. The cohesive system provides us with a strong “BFIT” and a highly readable and recognizable way of visually representing the institute. When our many communication pieces, from business cards to e-newsletters, are identifiable as coming from one institute, the depth and diversity of BFIT will be even more appreciated. It is expected that all departments and units understand and follow the guidelines described in this document.

Rule
Overview Uniform use of the BFIT signature builds awareness of the institute in the academic community and beyond. Therefore, the BFIT signature should be used in accordance with the guidelines in this approved artwork guide. Components of the Institute Signature 1. BFIT logo. A graphic representation of a shield with the popular Franklin kite image. 2. Logotype. “Benjamin Franklin Institute of Technology” set in all caps Felix Titling. The extended leg on the “R” – an alteration of the Felix font – represents the hills of the Boston area. 3. Signature rule. Provides a graphic break between the Benjamin Franklin name and Institute of Technology. Please Note: • The Felix Titling font was customized for the logotype, so NO PART OF THE BFIT SIGNATURE SHOULD BE RESET.

Institute Identity System: The BFIT Signature Color Standards
The colors used in the institute signature help make it a distinguishable element of BFIT’s identity. It is important to be consistent in the use of color.
Three-color Signature The three-color signature is always preferred. It should be used on a white or light background. When the three-color signature is used on a dark background, the logotype should be reversed (white). Do not use the signature on a background that provides insufficient contrast. When the signature is used on a photographic background, drop shadows may be used to enhance legibility. BFIT Blue PMS 286
One-color Signature If used in one color, the signature should be printed in BFIT Navy (PMS 289), black, or BFIT Gray (PMS 430)
Franklin Maize PMS 124
BFIT Navy PMS 289
Reversed One-color Signature When using a solid-color background, the signature colors should be reversed (white).

Use of Other Colors Do not recolor, tint, or create variations of the BFIT signature. The BFIT signature may also be reversed on colors other than those recommended here.
