BanQiao Cultural Center redefine “the public space”

Type A

Function

Openspace Function

3F Café / Gallery

E-Campus+ Back to nature.

“Thirty years from now the big university campuses will be relics.

>Corridor/Stepping Stone_

>Biome stability _

Cyborg Architecture [ thesis design ]

By the late twentieth century, our time, a mythic time, we are all chimeras, theorized and fabricated hybrids of machine and organism; in short, we are cyborgs. The cyborg is our ontology; it gives us our politics. The cyborg is a condensed image of both imagination and material reality, the two joined centres structuring any possibility of historical transformation. ( Haraway, 1991 : A Cyborg Manifesto ) During Taiwan’s coastal industrial development model, equilibrium was never found between economic growth, residence, and environmental justice. We created large, dangerous machines to increase production capacity and continued to expand our territory. Colossal conflicts and discrepancies occurred with the local when the industrial garrisoned themselves on this land : the local were surrounded by congregations of factories, resulting in increased morbidity rate, exodus and the loss of collective memory; they breathed polluted air, drank polluted water and ate polluted seafood, in the end the locals became livestock feeding on industrialisation and the economic system, like lambs to the slaughter. Contrary to Post-Industrialization’s call of retiring industrialization as the main objective in the past, Cyborg Architecture attempts to construction a new system of “space” from conflicts in order to reconcile the local, the industrial and the biological.
