COMMUNITY IMAGINARIUM + STORY LIFESTYLE OF BLIND WRITED BY Chun Ha Ree BLIND MAN I select the client blind one of handcapped. My Client Ian Brochure is born blind. The blind divided into two, Amblyopi and Anopsia. While Amblyopi means can’t see object completely, Anopsia can live everyday life, but are unreadable. Also Anopsia is dievided into two, non Anopsia and semi Anopsia is divided into two. Non anopsia is can’t distinguish light just like darkened state but Semi anopsia know the presence of light. My Client Ian Brochure(Ian brochure, 35) is Semi anopsia.

The story of blind man

I have good senses that common people don’t know because i born blind. Although common people can’t see through Eyes, by a long time, finally could have special feeling that can know what objects is in front of them. So even if i am blind, i can ride a bicycle, and i enjoy that beacuse can feel the wind, smell, sound and so on. And not only can ride a bicycle but also can raise flowers, and i love flowers so i’m happy when i raise various flowers! there is always fragrant in flowers! When it comes to having a dream for the born blind, they can only hear the sound just like the real world. So I effort into the act of knocking various objects, like creating a song to put multiple sounds in my head. however, There is a misconception because blind primarily developed sense of smell and hearing are thereby, through sound or smell, listening intently to the words of the men around. For example, When meeting with someone who is loud and tough, the born blind usually think them as tall and big person. So I often surprises the sudden surprised or scared. Most born blind deal with instrument well, Ian brouchure can too. I often imagines beautiful world, so there is always a sweet melody playing in my guitar, as i reported feeling and seeing.

The bottom picture is the Ssam-ji-gil in the in-sa-dong. And i take the ramp system inside it. The ramp system may be useful system to blind man who go up the top. So it is must-have item.

Before making the house of blind man, i needed to experience of blind’s life. So i visited the ‘Dialogue in the DARK’ is the experience of darkness. As a result, i got a little bit of understand of blind’s life. It is verry useful for knowing the blinds.

I think various textures not only give the interesting but also let the blind know the location. So, if this texture is used by inside wall of house, as he going the goal holding the wall, he will know where he is.

As you know, the xylophone makes clear sound. And the blind walk the path with white stick. So, if the outside wall is made by xylophone , they will make their own melodies playing the songs by hitting the xylophone wall with stick.

This is some of sound system named Theremin. The Theremin makes a sound using the vibration of high frequency. And this let you know how you are closer to the things. I think this electronical system is needed in house of blind.

Maybe you have seen this system on the crosswalk at least. This is the Voice Guide System. So, if put this system onto the column of the house, when a blind lost the way, that’ll guide his way.

This system is the Forest Air system for car. And it release a fragrance by sensing breathability and indoor temperature, smell and humidity, which adjust the ventilation.

This braille block is everywhere. I think the texsture of wall is importan, but the texture of floor is important too. Because the texture of floor have function leading the blind to somewhere.

The pop-up book on the top means the light system that when the blind man touch some of funitures, the light work too. And the pop-up book under the bottom is symbol of blind. The hand means the motion of his touching because he can see nothing, he only touchs all things.

This model is about textures and sounds. The reason why i select theses senses is that because blinds have no sight, their another senses are developed than nomal people. And specialy the senses of hearing and touching are the most superiorest. So, i try testing about textures and sounds.

Conclusion of your test main conclusions

The first testing model is xylophone. Before make that, I thought it is interesting to put xylophone wall on the house. Because the bind walk by holding onto the wall, If the wall is simple or normal, blind man will feel boring. So i think of the funny wall that gives some of music to him. And the end of thinking, i found a xylophone system. The xylophone works when he touchs the wall and it gives various sound just like piano. So he can make his own music as he walks through the path. And i try to make the testing model xylophone wall by iron chopstick. But it is hard what cut the chopstick. Because i had just only a saw, however it couldn’t cut the iron chopstick. So i got worried, but, as soon as, i think of another cutting tool. that is right ‘hardware store’. I went exectly to that, and i required the shop’s owner cut these iron chopstick. as a result, i could get cut chopstick, and made the testing motel. When i tested hiting the chopsticks by another chopstick, it makes sound as i thought! But there is a little problem that sound is unclear. But i never mind, because resultingly it is succesful. The next testing model that i made is myterious box. That is so interesting, because we never look inside that but can olny hand and touch the invisible things. The all things inside the box have different textues each other. And we only imagine what things is inside. sometimes, one person may get interesting, fun, joy, suprising, and the some person may get scary, disgutsting, fear... anyway the feeling would be different in different people, different textrues. When it comes to the reason why i made this myterious box, i want to give the experience by blind in short time. Because we never know the blind’s life before we have experience. So i make the black color box, and put some different and various textuers. And i hided the enterence by black curtain. Maybe during the short time, people who handed inside the box get some of moral. In conclusion, i am satisfied with my testing model. Because it is enough to experience about the blind and enough to think about the blind. So i will make the blind’s house with these result of testing.

WHAT ARE THINGS THAT I HAVE TO BRING IN THE HEIRY WHAT DOES IT MAKE SOUND WHAT KIND OF SOUND DO YOU HEAR WHAT KIND OF SCENT DO YOU SMELL HOW INTERRELATIONSIHIP IS BE HEIRY THE EFFECT OF I think the most important for blind is giving the various sensitive experience to blind. Because the blind have no sight, they are emotional, so they got a lot of effect of environment. Then, I will check several elements. Firstly, we have to give the nature itself environment to blind. Because in a artifiial environment, the blind feel unfamiliar and can’t adjust to it. So, finally the emotional blind may get gloomy. Therefore we study these things carefully. Seconly, there must to be no limit about season and wether, or his various experience will be limited too. For exemple, around the sea, he can expose himself to the wind and around the forest, he can scent the smell of nature in all seasons, in all wethers. End of checking the elements that whether heiry appropriate or not to blind, i can find that heiry satisfy all of the elements. Because heiry has the best requirement, the nature itself not artificial environment. Also according to heiry’s neightbor, we can hear various sound, can see various things, and can scent various smell and feel various mood in here. Now i try experiencing about them. in this time, i am feeling the wind blowing, and i notice the wind is so cool. Also i am sitting out in the sun, and the sunshine makes me be warm. I think the hormony of wind and sunshine is good. Wait a few minutes, and listen carefully.... what do you hear? I am hearing the sound of a bird´s chirpings, wind blowings, people’s voices or footsteps, and car’s racing. Also, do you hear this sound? this is the sounds of raindrop. when i take a rest the rain strat dropping, so i am hearing the sound and the sound is verry clear! And this sound is the harden clay sound. as the wind is blowing, this thin clay is bumpping each other, and the caly bumpping makes some of wonderful sounds. There is a flower shop around the site. let’s go to there. here is the flower shop and i can scent the aromatic smell of flowers. And the smell is so various. because there are many kind of flowers. If someone living around the

site want to scent the fragrant smell, i want to recommend to visit this flower shop. Then certainly he can not only scent the smell, but also experience the various shape of flowers. There is marvelous imformation. that’s about the blind. According to my investigation, the blind can know degree of temperature by one’s shadows. And as the shadows are moving, they can notice the time passed. So the more shadows are clear the more they can recognize the temperature and time passed. So, if the sunshine is big and the shadows are clear, it is best time of them. And fortunately, heiry meet the requirements. But if trees are changed by pine that have more clear shadows to make the more effect of shadows, it will be better. In conclusion, heiry has the suitable elements about blind, so if using these environments, it will be good for blind. Therefore I will build the architecture of blind by taking advantage of heiry.

These are my concept model. And the model is not completed. As you can see, there are three cylinders and the ramp surrounding the cylinders. The cylinders means the my client, blind manâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s space. Make mention of the space, first space is his private space, and the second is playing space, and the last is some kind of relex space. And the roof is garden. So the blind man can go up the top tag along with the ramp. later i added another ramp inside the house. And thanks to the ramp, he will go easily.

My main development is lean wall and materials. To get the suhlight and temperature, I have to decide some materials what I will use. And about the angle of the sun is also important. As you can see, this section show the movement of temperature. Green wall blow fresh air, solar pannel refract the sunlight. This section can clearly show the ideas of my house. Technology-intensive house is enough to move someoneâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s mind.

I learn how to use the the Rhino During the Design Studio. To me, it is harder than Sketch-up, Auto Cadd, 3Dâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s max, but i think if i more effort to learn about the Rhino, it will be easier than them. In conclusion, Rhino is verry useful.

Actually, i so difficulted about the communication with proffesor MARIA at first. Because i have many stories, but i canâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;t delivery them by the English. In fact i can speak a little English. But as time is passed, i notice the problem is nothing.

During the team exercise, I notice this is not just responsibility of mine, but of both ours. So, i got too heavy a burden. But thanks to my partner i could loose the burden, and i got new ideas about my model.

I think everything slowly, so i am alawys turned over around others students. But even though the speed is slow, i keep thinking, and drawing. Then, i find something new. And i discuss with professor about them.

This is my model axonometric. It is concist by different shape of boxes along the ramp. So, the outside people canâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;t notice where is up way, and down way. And in the center of the house, there is a garden.

Development HIGLIGHTED ASPECTS This is devlopmet model. The different with initial model is that the cylinder is removed, the ramps get various size and the height of 2level is different each other.

Initialy i thouht the ramp’s shape and i devided the spaces by function in ramp. So i choiced a ramp of them, and i started to design of house. But the house is designed by only the ramp’s shape. It looks like boring, and common. So i try to more develope

The second develped model gradually looks like a bug. It is aolso designed by the ramp’s shape. But it is softer than first model, and the shape is designed better. Also it has system, function, environment.

The final model is absolutly different with the last models. It consist by boxes, and more complex. Aolso it hide the blind’s circulation. It is like a closed house, but the center is opened. And the boxes on 2 level are diffent each other, the size differents and the height differents. So, the 2 level look complex, but the 1level look calm.

When I used one paper for Origami, my professor maria said that the the material would be important thing, so try using this in your project. Then i got her propsal and i realized although it is a little thing, it has potential prosibility.

Extually i didn’t close with my classmates but my old friends. But as the time pass, i can close with them. I think it thans to the team-work, and now, i do like my class!

My concept is using the one piece of material link each other. That materials is so flexible that can be Dome system.

Because the first feature of material is flexibility, i thought the Dome system is the fittest.

I found that the marerial is trinkle, in that i thought of some of temperature system. Think, when you touch the materials, thier colors are changed!

I focused on communication with others. Because my client is blind people, i thought they need to closing with normal people. So I put how to communicate in the my project.

After I decided to construct Dom system, tension ring is the first step in my project. Because it is a essential steps for make Dome system.

An entrance in my project need a truss construction to sustain the weight of people. So I used it under the floor at the ramp.

To stimulate to comunicate each other, the floor descended slowly toward the hole.

When blind people walk the hallway, the wall in the hallway is touched by walker. The wall is compose of xylophone, walker make a sound when they touched the wall.

I thought that the model for blind people is good, but for normal people is better. Because my main concept is gather people but blind, so i thought that to attract, the model have to be insteresting for normal people.

working MODEL The process program for communication At first, i thought the temperature system. Think, when you touch a wall, it changes its color! then you will get some curiosity, and the the curiosity will be insteresting. And finally the people who experience the system are about to get more special experience. And then the experience people will say that feeling to another people, the non-experience people will focus on the house! Also i thought another system. That is texture, sound. Imagine, the people have insteresting to the house is ought to walk inside, then they will also get the amaging experience that are making they own music and touching various texture. It will be some of attraction too! That is not at all! Threre is last system. that is right a hall. I dugged the flat space a little, and thatâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s fucntion is to concentrate in unconscious. As you know, the dugged site is easier to attract people than flat site. As a result, These whole systems make normal people focus on the house, then natually the blind communicate with them!

site model scale 1 / 200 there is mountain of the backgound and there is flower shop in the site. I arraged the three model fall from each other. Because the gap can be path, so another people will use the path.

I use different colors each other because the model changes colors by season, someoneâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s touching, wether.... so i put several colors. And the ramp make shade to the bottom, so under the ramp, people take a rest.

I think this image is well expressed about heiryâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s mood. When i visited the heiry, I felt calm, peaceful, clear. In my ecperience, Heiry was pretty quiet. And this image reflect what i felt.
