[CATALYST OF CITY MEMORY] Residential building renovation
Location: HongKong, China Work Type: Group, Competition Tutor: Prof. Liu Daping, Prof. Luo Peng Duration: 2015/4 —2015/6 Description: Coping with the rapid development of cities, the old urban area is swallowed and the tranditional cultures are lost gradually. For one thing, residents need advanced facilities in daily life, for another thing, they miss the old life-style and the neighbourhood vibe. So catalytic space is built next to the old balconies to conserve the city memory and offer open space for recreation. It is a vertical courtyard which will recall citizens the belonging sense of community and the friendly relationship between neighbours.

[COMMUNITY CONNECTION] Stadium of Harbin University
Location: Harbin,CN Work Type: Personal, Academic Completion Time: 2016,12 Instructor: Daping Liu, Yundao Zhao The separation of the city fabric, lack of vibrant public space is the most significant issue to residents and students in this community. The gym is built to connect the community and to offer public space for both citizens and undergraduates. The ground level of plaza is lowered to return public space to community. To direct pedestrians from plaze to paths inside the gym, two pedestrian paths divide the building with several ramps connected to them. By dividing the building with open sapce, two splited parts of the community are reconnected with directed routes.
The project explores the possibility of the negative space between the campus and the residence. But the available area is only 5,200m2. To satisfy the need of the students and residents, both of open space and green space are necessary. The first step is to break the division.

Sketch, scenario of tourism in Fezi with Fez Tower
[FEZ TOWTER] culture landmark
Location: Medina of Fez, Morocco Work Type: Personal, Competition Completion Time: 2015,9 The Medina of Fez is believed to be one of the world's largest carfree urban areas. Narrow lanes are everywhere. In order to sell more products, Workshops possess public space, hoax tourists and enforce them to buy. In this way, handicraft loses its spirit and charm, becoming tools of profit-making. At the same time, tourists have to spend high price to get guidance from irregular guides. Hence, tourists leave negative impressions on the trip. So no matter locals or tourists, they both need facilities to improve quality of urban space. If citizens can build monumental towers on their own, hanging crafts regularly. They will become some landmarks, guiding tourists to centralized workshops and other resorts. On the other hand, by doing this activity periodically, citizens can gain sense of belonging of local culture.

[101 LIFESTYLES OF TAIWAN] Transformation from shopping mall to museum
Location: Tainan, Taiwan Work Type: Personal, Academic Completion Time: 2015,1 Tutor: Ming-Hsiu Su Description: Hayashi Department Store is a historical building in Tainan, Taiwan. The government spends years repairing it and brings it to life. The building after restoration is praised for the respect to original style. It looks like exactly the same as that looks like 80 years ago. However, if rebuild it in a contrary way, what will it be? The old building will transform to a museum of city memory. Except form the original façade, all interior spaces will be changed, reminding citizens of representative images of Taiwan, such as night market, narrow street houses, illegal buildings, mountain town in Jiufen and 7-11 convenience stores. All those spaces are reconstructed in a way I construe. This is a museum of metaphor, consisting of different types of spaces that can recall people’s memories about old cities and old lifestyles.

[THREE IDENTITIES] Police domitory renovated to artist's studio
Location: Douliu, Taiwan Work Type: Personal, Academic Completion Time: 2014,10 Tutor: Ming-Hsiu Su Description: The site was used to be police officers’ dormitory which is abandoned now. The goal of the project is to transform it to a studio&gallery of artists. As the most authentic art in Douliu, I consider glove puppetry as a representative image of local culture. As a performer, artists live a life of three status: one shows as the puppet, one acts as the player, and the other one is the artist himself. Three “boxes” represent 3 status of artist. Each one is a “stage” that has specific individuality. This project conveys an conception: renovation or localization is not only about copying styles of local buildings, using local materials, but also is about help people better understand local culture.
EXISTING SITE CONDITION
The site was used to be police officers’ dormitory which is abandoned now. Government has raised funds to build a culture and creation park. Currently, there is one tea shop functioning and the existing buildings in park call for renovation to incite the development of the park.

Location: Santa Monica, CA Work Type: Academic Critic : Thom Mayne, Keshav Ramaswaki Duration: 2017/9 —2017/12 Description: By 2050, the world population will reach 9,3 million. In the context of limited land, water scarcity and land depletion, the aim is to create a prototype that holds the potential to transform how we produce, relate and consume food. The demand for high yield production within limited constrains of territory makes vertical farm a feasible endeavor in the near future, both technically and financially.

[SPEED TRADER] High-rise building design
Location: Manhattan, New York Work Type: Group, Academic Completion Time: 2016,12 Instructor: Ali Rahim, Ezio Blasetti, Nate Hulme, Robert The current distance between financial headquarters in Manhattan and their data centers in New Jersey is near 33 miles- 275 microseconds-. A long distance where the investment is at risk due to the speed of connection, and possible hacker attacks. How could we increase the speed of execution, while protecting the financial data? The ‘Speed-Trader’ is a High Frequency Trading Data Center in the hearth of Midtown, New York, capable of reducing the latency by 272 microseconds through the proximity between infrastructure and financial headquarters, generating an additional profit of 27 million dollars per year.

WATER COLLECTOR Water is collected through the creases in the cafade, is filtered using vagetation, gravel and coarse sand. Then, it is storaged in multiple micro-reservoirs along the tower. Water is cooled down using the natural flow of wind(available especially on the top of the tower) through a crossflow cooling system
FOG HARVESTING To effectively cool the interior spaces of the building, the facade has a variety of air intakes oriented towards the strongest wind flow, using positively the downdraught effect produced by tall buildings.
AIR INTAKES The existing humidity in the air, is captured through a fog harvesting system: a delicate and intricate mambrane that collects rain and fog as an aditional colling resource for the data center.
All of the intakes have a variable section increasing the speed of the wing when passing through each of them. This reduces the dependence of the building in tradistional computer room air conditioning(CRAC) units.
