Gift Cabinets Remember our Gift Cabinets in Sutton Court and Sutton Manor which contain lots of gifts, jewellery items and trinkets. If you would like to treat yourself or a family member or friend please let Tracy know in Reception at Sutton Court or go to the Office at Sutton Manor.

Week days at Sutton Court there is access to the cabinets Monday to Friday 9.00—4.30.

Saturday and Sunday 10.00—3.00 For Sutton Manor please ask a member of staff.

They have been ranked at 10th place out of 1500 care homes in the East Midlands which is a huge achievement and recognition for the hard work of everyone. Well Done! Cream tea and Prosecco was served to celebrate and Samantha Jayne played for residents on the saxophone in both the Court and the Manor.

QUIZ Sutton Court Deputy Manager , Sandra, has suggested a quiz for staff and residents. The sheets will be available in the big lounge, the dining room and the pool lounge. All entries are to be submitted by Friday 24th April where the sheets will be marked and a prize presented to the winner. You can submit a group entry too if you prefer. Give your team a name, a prize for the best name also!

Everyone has welcomed our newest ‘resident’ Molly who moved back in with us on Tuesday 17th March. She is settling in really well keeping the ladies company in the Quiet Lounge.

Easter Traditions An Easter bonnet represents the tail-end of a tradition of wearing new clothes at Easter in harmony with the renewal of the year and the promise of spiritual renewal and redemption. The "Easter bonnet" was fixed in popular culture by Irving Berlin whose frame of reference was the Easter Parade in New York City, a festive walkabout that made its way down Fifth Avenue from St. Patrick's Cathedral:At the depths of the Great Depression a new hat at Easter, or a refurbished old one, was a simple luxury..

Simnel cake is a light fr u it cake with two layers of almond paste or marzipan one in the middle and one on top that is toasted, and eaten during the Easter period. It was originally made for the middle Sunday of Lent when the forty day fast would be relaxed, Conventionally eleven, or occasionally twelve, marzipan balls are used to decorate the cake, with a story that the balls represent the twelve apostles, minus Judas or Jesus and the twelve apostles, minus Judas. This tradition developed late in the Victorian era, altering the mid Victorian tradition of decorating the cakes with preserved fruits and flowers.

What is the significance of hot cross buns?

The Church of England likes to set the distinctive baked goods, perhaps not unsurprisingly in a Christian context. They are historically eaten on Good Friday, and the symbolism is evident.

"You have got the bread, as per the communion, you have got the spices that represent the spices Jesus was wrapped in in the tomb, and you have got the cross.

They are fairly full of Christian symbolism," says Steve Jenkins, Church of England spokesman.

In legend, the Easter Bunny, also called the Easter Hare and the Spring Bunny, brings baskets filled with coloured eggs, candy, and sometimes toys to the homes of children on the night before Easter, in much the same way as Santa Claus is said to deliver presents on Christmas Eve. The Easter Bunny will either put the baskets in a designated place or hide them somewhere in the house or garden for the children to find when they wake up in the morning, giving rise to the tradition of the Easter egg hunt.
