Temple Carrig’s Alex Daly is tackled by Rory Morrin of Clongowes Wood PREVIEW: BANK OF IRELAND LEINSTER SCHOOLS JUNIOR CUP QUARTER-FINALS February 23, 2018 / 4:00 pm / Site Editor Belvedere College and Clongowes Wood College will get the Bank of Ireland Leinster Schools Junior Cup quarter-finals underway on Monday in what should set the tone for four exciting matchups, all kicking off at 3pm and to be played at Donnybrook Stadium. On the face of it, Belvo’s 31-7 defeat of CUS doesn’t look eye-catching. But, this was one of the better CUS collections. Belvo’s full-back Dylan O’Grady completed a hat-trick of tries from being in the right place at the right time for two and showing a late change of angle for the other.
Leo Dowling of Clongowes Wood College is tackled by Cameron O’Hara of Temple Carrig But the Clane school had the composure to add prop Barry D’Arcy’s try to that of centre Rory Morrin in the first half, before Devitt gpfoto 28held his nerve near the end.
Number eight Jonathan Ross leads a competitive pack of forwards with prop Jonathan Sargent often turning up as a source of go-forward. Clongowes were pushed right to the limit by new force Temple Carrig before two late penalties from scrum-half Oisin Devitt allowed them to come away as 18-12 winners in the first
Jonathan Ross of Belvedere College scores his side’s first try despite the efforts of Derick Sholarin of Clongowes Wood College. February 27 2018 Jonathan Ross’s Belvedere became the first side to make it into the Leinster Junior Cup se++mi-finals at Donnybrook yesterday. The key was a fast start in which No 8 Ross was prominent, latching onto a block-down for the first try in the seventh minute. Hooker David Lambe pounded out the hard yards and centre Daniel Hawkshaw benefited from a fortunate bounce for further tries in the 14th and 21st minutes, two of which were converted by Belvo’s full-back Dylan O’Grady. The look of gloom lifted for Clongowes on the back of prop Marcos Roca’s turnover and centre Rory Morrin’s speed and line of running for captain Charlie Reilly to make it 19-7 at the break. When they couldn’t add to this, despite the best efforts of magnificent Morrin, Belvo’ sealed it with left wing Michael Rock’s fine finish.

on halfway, out-half Charlie McNamee’s touch-finder putting them in place for centre Morrin to cut through on the left for a fine try, converted by scrum-half Oisin Devitt for 19-7, just before the break. Straight away, Morrin was back on the ball, bursting forward and kicking ahead to bring a sense of danger again. Leinster Schools Junior Cup The pressure was on at the lineout and Clongowes failed to deal with it, number eight Jonathan Ross seizing on the opportunity for the opening try, full-back Dylan O’Grady converting for 7-0 in as many minutes. They were nearly in again when hooker David Lambe’s offload was judged to be forward just as wing Michael Rock dove in on the left. The Clane school had to arrest the momentum or they would suffer further consequences. They just couldn’t prevent the Belvedere forwards from churning out the hard yards and prop Jonathan Sargent blasted over for 12-0 in the 14th minute.
Belvedere College were good value for their Bank of Ireland Leinster Schools Junior Cup quarter-final win over Clongowes Wood College at a bitingly cold Donnybrook Stadium on Monday afternoon.
Just when Clongowes looked to have escaped from wing Derick Sholarin’s recovery of Charlie McNamee’s exit kick, Belvedere scrum-half Ben Foy trapped them with another superb tactical kick.
Leinster Schools Junior Cup They had to strike while they had the ball. But, they were thwarted more than once. Then, Belvedere broke out of their defensive shell for McCarrick to counter and left wing Michael Rock to finish on the left for 24-7 in the 45th minute. Morrin was on the rampage again to create an opening for wing Sholarin to threaten down the left. But, the game was gone and Belvedere saw it out comfortably. They began to edge the battle for field position with loose forwards John Carroll and Wilkinson prominent, the latter almost sliding over in the right corner.
Leinster Schools Junior Cup Out-half McCarrick’s tantalising kick was touched down by centre Daniel Hawkshaw for O’Grady to strike a tremendous conversion in the 21st minute. Clongowes did find relief from prop Marcos Roca’s turnover
