Netherlands 14 (J.Yansen 2, F.Albers, P.Dickie 2, C.Bosch 4, N. van der Marel, F. van der Elst 2, P.Jong) Poland 1 (N.Suszńska) In a powerful display of talent, flair and an unstoppable tour de force the Dutch girls finished their pool games with 14-1 win over Poland. Having spoken to the Polish girls earlier in the day, they were aware of the Everest they had to climb and what lay ahead, but they are delighted to be a part of the Championship event. They have enjoyed watching and learning from the other teams. They were cognisant of the leap from the Championship II to I, which is enormous for many teams. However in the game they held their heads up and faced these incredible athletes as best they could, even scoring via an excellent PC in the 10th minute. U18 EuroHockey Championships Netherlands And Germany Will Contest The Final

29th July 2016: After 2 close fought semi-final games it is a Dutch, German final for the girls here in Cork. Netherlands 3 (F.Moes, P.Dickie, C.Bosch) England 0 A more intense and accurate game from England than we have seen so far, saw them hold off the Dutch until the 38th minute. F.Moes opened the scoring from a PC in the 38th minute. The second for the Dutch was scored by P.Dicke. England worked hard to get on the scoresheet matching the Dutch for speed, but the 3rd goal in the 67th minute. Speaking to England’s head coach after the game, ex-Irish International Sarah Kelleher said she set some expectations that they could bring the game to the Dutch, whilst tactically she hadn’t changed much but had finessed some key aspects of the play. She felt that in the first half they could have put some chances away. She added about the players “I cannot question the work rate of the girls ” They kept up with the high press. She was disappointed to not have earned more corners! Talking about their upcoming Medal game she felt that the performance of today has given her great belief in the girls and their ability to come away with a medal from the Championships. “The girls are on the high, they are disappointed to have not beaten the Dutch, isn’t that a great place to be!” Team Minute Netherlands Penalty Corner Netherlands Field Goal 2 – 0 Netherlands Penalty Corner

The Netherlands Are U18 EuroHockey Champions

30th July 2016: After 20 games, 105 goals we have a new European Champion, The Netherlands Final: Netherlands 2 (F van der Elst 2) Germany 0 Two Fay van der Elst deflections were enough to see the Netherlands win the girls EuroHockey Youth Championships final with a supremely composed performance to defeat Germany 2-0. They controlled much of the play as their opponents sat deep for long periods, playing in half court an looking to pounce on the break when they good. But the orange tide were patient and eventually took their chances when they came along. Van der Elst broke the deadlock in the 30th minute when she got on the end of Gabrielle Mosch’s powerful diagonal pass from left to right into the circle. And the clinching effort came with 10 minutes remaining with one of the moments of a top quality tournament. Freeke Moes flicked the ball out of triangle of German players far out on the left wing to create the space and she spotted van der Elst racing into the circle. The pass was slightly the wrong side of her body for a natural deflection but, no matter, she redirected the ball the opposite direction, wong-footing Karlotta Lammers to find the bottom corner. It was a fittingly beautiful goal to match a strong tournament from the Dutch in which they improved rapidly from game to game. Indeed, their opening 4-3 win over Spain was their toughest moment, needing a last minute Yibbi Janssen goal to claim the points. They also struggled in the first half against Belgium before emerging victorious while their first clean sheet only arrived in the semi-final against England. There was no doubt about the final, however, as Marieke Dijkstra leads them a famous success.
