01 Recreational center
My idea for UCLA Innovation center is that I designed a boat floating in the trees. This idea comes from protecting the original visual connection between the Board art center and sculpture garden. The approach to realize it is lifting the volume directly up to the height of the branches of trees. Totally splitting the ground and the lifted massing, an isolated green island is created in the center of the plaza, only two bridges are connected to the island, which is a small volume allows plants and wooden steps. The sunken plaza is used as a natural café area for students and informal activities. The green roof follows the topography of site, so people won’t find it until they get close enough to the site, which enhance the concept of creating a totally floating volume on the trees.

Floating volume is using a concept of a boat, both first and second level of the plan follow the shape of boat, which means the front part and rear part are higher than the middle. In this form, studio, reading place can be separated in a natural way. First level focus on small division, being used as group discussing areas, upper level is used as reviewing and meeting area, which need larger space and less division of height. E

The structure is pretty straight forward, two structure cores contain ventilation, plumping, electricity, infrastructure equipment, they also perform as the vertical support of the project, concrete columns help the cores stand. Long spanning slabs are supported by truss. The façades are surrounded by the shading panel and it create different shadow on the façade.

02 Ferry Terminal
Vittorio Gregotti asserted that “The origin of architecture is not the primitive hut, but the marking of ground, to establish a cosmic order around the surrounding chaos of nature.” By reorienting the grid of a past future-imaginary Oxnard to mediate between a shifting coastline and a consistent idealized city gridiron, we have constructed a new nature - an artificial urbanized region, full of dynamism. Our ferry terminal, located on one edge of a city grid/ ocean courtyard cell, comprises many activities at the fluctuating edges of this new Oceano-urban fabric.
14
15
16
17
The ferry terminal is located at the edge of this urban grid as it can inflect the surrounding landscape and give this courtyard a particular orientation and identity. By pulling out diagonally out of the horizontal profile of the city, our GroundFORM has a strong topographic character to impart shape as a mounded edge to a terrain that would otherwise be formless. In this way, it assumes the form of an artificial tiered ground-scraper.
18
19
The project is a GroundForm extending horizontally rather than vertically. Given its size, content, and direction, the project inflects the morphology utilizing the oblique. As such, the building insinuates itself as a continuation of the surrounding topography and densifies the fabric. The programmatic components of this project include an aquaculture area, where the fishing industry cultivates oysters together with seaweed, as it can help restore coastal ecosystems which are threatened by coastal pollution, loss of habitat, overfishing and face an added threat amplifiers of climate change.

03 LA Housing
This project was inspired by “No stop city”. No stop city emphasizes its plan has ability to expand forever, and every space in the plan has similar space atmosphere. I started with patterns like two squares intersect with each other, it’s a net which has ability to expand forever. Massing started to aggregate at dense points. Rest of this part become stairs and landscapes. But in the end all elements rely on the original grid.

04 Truth Multiverse
We started our research out of our different comprehensions of COVID19. As you can see, we locate in different information environment in the world, so that we may receive different/ even contradictory narratives of the truth. We cannot help thinking about what would happen if all these narratives are collected in future historical archive?

Future social anthropologists work to unravel the multi-stranded narratives of a marine-life disaster in 2021, searching for the truth. Realizing only after wading through endless news reports, videos, and social media posts, that truth is a construct, and we each make our own.

For now, we can tell two main reason causing this phenomenon. The first is filter bubble. We inevitably have personal bias based on one’s experience and position. No mention modern algorism even enhances this effect, which makes us more difficult to break through filter bubble. Second reason is barely mentioned, the raising power of individual chronicler. Chronicler used to be a very specific person who writes accounts of important or historical events in the history. Nowadays, on the opposite, everyone could be a chronicler, taking a picture, posting an Instagram. Like the example of documenting the wild fire in California, we are not only recording the even for ourselves, but it is a process of putting notes on collective historical documentation.

05 Palimpsest
This factory was built in 2005, aiming to provide electricity for this remote area. However, it eventually was abandoned because of a large accident. Since it was a classified project, the facts of this accident were unrevealed and kept unknown for a long time. The location is very far from the city and people hardly have the chance to get access to it, thus it remains many mysteries. There was an anecdote attempting to explain: a plane crashed into the factory, exploded, started a large fire, and burnt most of the documents. Later, an adventurer went to investigate this event and hope to reveal the buried truth.

06 City Planning
This is an urban planning project that located in western China. In the past ten years, this village have been developed well by encouraging villagers to grow grapes instead of crops. The villagers built unit houses and roads which can provide better life than dirt roads. However, villagers have problems with the development of their village, they not only want to make money by selling grapes, but also want to develop rural tourism just like other villages around it.

45
46
47
In this design, we kept the memory of the house’s owner and repurpose space become a tourist center. we reduced the cost and added specific commercial space for selling products.

In the middle of the site, four sub-units are designed according to the current situation: Ecological Latrine is closed to the road. Moreover, all construction must be low cost and device must be low-tech.
50
The semi-open space at the entrance of the exhibition area can be used as a resting space for farmers in the busy season. The first floor of this exhibition hall can be used as a storage or exhibition of agricultural products. Also, it can be set up for craftsmen and farming knowledge courses. On the second floor, space are designed for children to play and make crop to dry in the sun. 51
27
28
This design should pay attention to the design of family entertainment life, the combination of the gnome space and courtyard, the agriculture production space.
This project is designed for the elderly and children, we give priority to improving their living conditions. Such as barrier-free design, children’s learning area. After the survey on the current situation of the elderly in the village, we adjust the function of the rooms and transform the house with local materials and technology.
52
29
This design mainly focus on the resettlement of the storage space of farm tools, food drying terrace, and the multi-generation living space. We arrange the old man and the children’s room on the first floor; expand storage space, reset the food drying space along the hallway to activate the second floor platform.
53
30
The aim of this design is to renovate the old house into a place with new functions and spaces. We decided to give it a new face; transforming it into a youth hostel with international standard after discussions with owners and the local government.

1. Project location The project site is located in Zhujiajiao Town, which is located in the central and southern part of Qingpu District, 6 kilometers to the east of Qingpu City and 48 kilometers to the center of Shanghai. Zhujiajiao has a long history and unique historical scenery. 2. Functional positioning of the project Based on the respect for and protection of zhujiajiao landscape area, the project will build stone carvings, brick carvings, wood as the main features, and intangible cultural heritage catering as the backing, the formation of museum, private collection exhibition, catering, entertainment and hotel in integrated project, owners of private collection at the same time, for citizens and tourists to build an understanding and appreciation of the “three carving art” and zhujiajiao historical style and features of a good platform. 3. Construction scale The planned land area of the project is about 5165.90 square meters, and the total ground area (including the capacity part) is 5160.81 square meters, including 1962.79 square meters for non-body inspection hotel, 362.70 square meters for tea bar/water bar, 89.72 square meters for intangible cultural heritage store, 137.14 square meters for book bar, 1000.26 square meters for intangible cultural heritage restaurant, 1029.22 square meters for art studio, 91.82 square meters for ancient opera hall and various ancillaries.

Drawing for me is another way for me to express my ideas and thinking. First drawing was completed when I was imagining that I was living in a room where I could not see the sky but I can feel the sunshine and moonlight.
