irst and foremost, I must say...thank God fashion week is over. Oh, I'm sorry...hi and hello, and welcome to our October issue of 7Hues Magazine, Mode Edition

I know you must be saying..."wow Will, why start your letter off like that", well covering over 300 plus fashion brands and houses is very tiresome, especially when you have a small team. At the end of the day we were able to cover
the majority of each show, from New York to Paris, and we intend to share them over the next few weeks on our social media and website. After a month of covering fashion my eyes just want to take a rest. I actually want to schedule a few shoots and knock off some dust on the DSLR and get creative. Don't get me wrong, I love creating layouts for the brand, sharing content from around the world on our platform that inspires our followers to be more constructive and artistic, but as an artist myself, I feel as though I must stay sharp as well, so getting my hands dirty is a must. I'm excited to release another issue for Noir. I think creatives in the states are finally taking notice to what we have going on and are finally deciding to help us create the 1st Fashion publication in the U.S. that's on the same level as the top fashion publications, but covering people of color. And we are holding up our end by providing our readers and followers with a publication that looks just as good as any top tier publication in the states. So a big thanks to our contributors, and a huge thanks to our followers who want to see more people of color in a high fashion publication. We will be working on our 2019 themes this month so be sure to subscribe to our site, go check them out, and download them once you get a chance. We will post an announcement on our site and on social media once we've completed our themes for next year. We encourage anyone who wants to submit too shoot and submit early. We are pushing real hard to have these issues on stands by next year. So moving forward there will be more celebrity features, interviews, inside content, and on-line features. Thanks for being apart of what we have established.

INTERVIEW WITH TIA OGURI – THE STYLIST WHO BRINGS “TRADITIONAL KIMONOS WITH A HINT OF MADNESS” When Harajuku fashion meets Marie Antoinette on a magical bed of leaves with foxes and badgers, to an electric blue alien-geisha wearing jaw-dropping full-length kimonos strapped into tight corsets and leather belts, Tia Oguri (not her real name) continues to pursue her interests in transcending cultural expectations and promoting diversity through her unconventional concepts. As the brains behind many of her shoots, Tia’s concepts are distinctively avant-garde and unique, using a diverse range of models to further enforce her belief that kimonos can be worn by anyone, regardless of race.

his Oxford-based fashion stylist is also the founder of Uber Dandy Kimono, a collector and seller of vintage kimonos, handpicked and beautifully curated for her UK market. Tia constantly surprises you with endless kimono styling possibilities, combining inspirations from different cultures, periods and fashion subcultures. She has worked with many popular brands to bring her vision to life, and worked with UK-based photographers like Ian Wallman, Magic Owen, Wbb Imagine and recently, with this writer when she is a photographer at FYi Photography. You may find Tia’s work has been published on Vogue Italia, Elegant Magazine, Feroce, Cole Magazine, Surreal Magazine and more. In this interview, Tia tells us about her thoughts as a stylist and the creative process that comes with it. Tia Oguri -Tell us about your first encounter with Japanese
culture?
Emma Khoo -Growing up, I always loved traditional attires and drew fascination from many cultures. I used to watch a lot of Bollywood and Chinese period dramas! However, it was during secondary school that I came across NHK Taiga dramas (an annual, year-long historical fiction TV drama series broadcast in Japan) and from then on, I was hooked.

Tia Oguri -I was blown away by this avant-garde editorial, ‘Electric Dreams’ featured on Glassbook magazine! Your concepts are always unique and true to your interests. Tell us more about it. Emma Khoo -This shoot still remains my strongest to date. It started when Magic Owen made contact with me with a proposition of collaborating on a kimono editorial. She had a concept in mind but the end results were soooo much better. I was able to show off what I did best, mixing hard and soft elements, and kept that quirkiness. Coming from a more traditional fashion background, I spend more time researching and drafting moodboards for every look for every concept. Tia Oguri -TTell us about your creative process from start to

Elegant Magazine was largely inspired by the amazing works of Alexia Sinclair. I knew I wanted to step up my game from doing just one look to a full-blown editorial and that the model had to be shot from above. I already had a photographer so the first thing was to draft a moodboard. I did quite a lot of research from textured hair to the type of leaves for this shoot. Finding the right model isn't easy as well, since kimono poses are different from fashion poses. They rely on face, hands and feet, not so much on the body so I had to choose a model that looked effortlessly elegant. Once I found the right model, I contacted a salon and pitched my suggested moodboard and team. On the day of the shoot, I went out to cut some leaves, moss and anything else I could find so that it would still be fresh on the day of the photoshoot! The first outfit and the first hour will always be the hardest because we would be trying to find the right lighting and position. As the model was on her back, I had to maintain a squatting position for the entirety of the shoot to reposition her toes, chin and kimono as required. I like things done to perfection on set simply because I don't want the photographer to spend ages retouching or lose a great image because of a minor misplacement. I like to make sure that everyone is happy with each look before moving on. After the shoot, I would select the images based on how they looked overall, made the crops and sent them back to the photographer for retouching. I would always try to get these images published in magazines before sending them out to the team. Tia Oguri -Tell us about your favourite shoot to date. Emma Khoo -Electric Dreams and 春, 私の春. The two couldn't be anymore
different.
Tia Oguri -Your works features a diverse range of models. Why do you think this is important to you and also for the industry? Emma Khoo -As a female entrepreneur, I like to market to a wider audience as I am selling a somewhat niche product outside the country of origin (Japan) to the UK market. In the fashion industry, most people don't even know that I am not even Asian! I may be an African but I want to show them that: “yes, it is a traditional cultural attire” but kimonos are not limited to only Japanese or Asian people. Tia Oguri -What is your dream shoot? Emma Khoo -I honestly don't know as I am always constantly inspired. My
dream is to be able to make my moodboards come to life.
Tia Oguri -What’s your guilty pleasure? Emma Khoo -Using photoshoots as an excuse to buy more kimonos. Tia Oguri -What is the most challenging part of being a stylist? Emma Khoo -MONEY. It is not easy and definitely not cheap to be a stylist. Tia Oguri -What do you have in store for the rest of the year? Emma Khoo -I would very much like to pick up photography again as I initially
started as a photographer. I also recently joined Antiques on High, Oxford as one of the traders selling Japanese kimono, in hopes that people would take more interest in Japanese culture.
Tia Oguri -Any final advice to survive in the industry? Emma Khoo -Know what you want and stick to the moodboard. I have had
a few photoshoots that ended up being a complete waste of time and money because people don’t stick to the moodboard. IN THE HEART OF THE CITY Our Fashion Director Theo Hanson managed to get to Le Souk during his NY Fashion Week Mayhem where he experienced the African by Art collective collections of modernized African Apparel and accessories like no other. After taking in what was an amazing show; Theo had the opportunity to sit down and chat with the two young an beautiful entrepreneurs from Paris who were behind it all: Salima Adda Co-founder and Art Director and Maureen Nyamey Co-Founder and Marketing Director of African by Art In the midst of being pleasantly whelmed with their fun and bubbly personalities. These ladies share the story of how their vision of building a Consulting Agency; representing African brands came to life. Theo gets taken to the streets as he watches the FVWL (From Vincy With Love) Spring/Summer 2019 runway collection. What looked to be the perfect attire for Burning Man; designer Mashell takes us to a place where high-end menswear and streetwear are one in the same; while electrically enticing us with his pop of neon highlighter colors of orange, yellow, green and red. After a successful first solo runway show; Theo gets a hold of St. Vincent's own native designer Mashell; where he apprises us many intriguing stories about his journey to becoming a desingner including one about his struggles growing up in his bucolic community of Biabou knowing his destiny lied in the fashion industry with no way of knowing how to advance towards it. 32

FASHION NIGHT HIT THE GROUND RUNNING Our media team tackled the streets of New York during fashion week and came across some creative creations. Pink invaded NYFW this year... Well at least thats what one would say if you were at the Pink! By Stevie Boi"s latest S/S19 Runway show that took place at the Metropolitan Pavilion on September 9th. The young and multitalented designer Stevie Boi who made his big break in 2012 in Vogue Magazine landing his eyewear on the cover; showed us just how pink should be worn with pink posh sheer fabrics, flushed necklines and sexy and riske' details and of course accessorized and topped off with his unique eyewear on selected looks. Amongst the fully attended show you could find celebrities who were seated and a few familiar faces who walked in the show were celebrities such as Ty Hunter (Celebrity Stylist), Dope Tavio (Designer) , Aliana Coates(WNBA, Chicago Sky), Bing (Recording Artist), Richie Rich(Designer), Veronica Vega (VH1 Love & Hip Hop Miami), Bianca Boonie (Love & Hip Hop NY), Jeana Turner (Americas Next Top Model), Khrystyana Kazakova (Americas Next Top Model), and Taylor Girlz (Recording Artist). With such a successful show, theres no doubt that we will be seeing more of Stevie Boi as he continues to design for trend setting creatives across the globe.

Craig Green worked around notions of protection and performance. His wearable habitats draw inspiration from tents and kites. The idea is brought to the extreme in the hooded capes with strings, the dramatic, inhabitable shape highlighted by a strong use of bold, hi-contrast colors. Quilting and prints are fused in innovative ways in the kite surfing-inflected pieces.

STAGES TWO HIGHLY LAUDED COLLECTIVE SHOWCASES FOR NEW YORK FASHION WEEK SPRING/SUMMER 19 SEASON

ON SEPTEMBER 10TH,
CAAFD, THE COUNCIL OF ASPIRING AMERICAN FASHION DESIGNERS, brought some of the best rising and emerging designers from around the globe to the fashion capital of the world for a spectacularly received set of Spring/Summer 19 Collective Showcases. CAAFD, in collaboration with iFashion Network, presented this Collective Showcase at both the renowned Pier 59 venue as well as the world famous Industria venue. The Pier59 collective showcase’s lineup proved a thunderous occasion with designers and brands MOUTON BLANC, Zabetta Couture, Ayni and Thunyatorn, and the Industria collective showcase featured designers and brands Helena-Bajaj-Larsen, Yufash, Sania Studio and Patricia Wijaya, both of which mark yet another successful and couldn’t be missed continuation of CAAFD’s long running series of NYFW showcases. Those in attendance were thrilled with the offerings, including several well-known models such as Madeline Stuart and actors including Mario Van Peebles.

MOUTON BLANC The Pier59 showcase came first and began with a performance by Myles C.O Gittens with a fusion violin performance that quickly got the attention of the audience before Designer Hakuyo Miya’s brand MOUTON BLANC started the fashion portion of the show off with an unforgettable experience, courtesy of the Japanese designer’s second showcase on a CAAFDsponsored showcase. Miya’s collection for this follow-up appearance exhibited his trademark fantasy stylings mixed with an elegance that showcased both his Japanese heritage as well as his experiences in Paris. Colors on display were incredibly sophisticated, with bright whites and the occasional darker colors put to good use. Hakuyo Miya is a Japanese designer who has studied at the Atelier Chardon Savard in Paris. His work with MOUTON BLANC is known for its fantasy style elements, as he does a beautiful job combining real world with fairy tales. Miya’s fiery designs combine color, texture and culture into beautiful and elegant pieces, and has previously made an appearance on CAAFD sponsored showcases. His designs are known for the innovative lines and cuts as well as having an aspect of modernism throughout the collections.

ZABETTA COUTURE Following that came Zabetta Couture with designer Ruth Zabetta, who also made her second appearance at a CAAFD sponsored showcase. Zabetta Couture showcased the same drive and passion as the previous season’s showcase, and once again made her modern lines and cuts accentuate the feminine silhouettes of each model. This collection was decidedly summer inspired with bright greens and leaf designs on the pieces, with large hats adding to the looks. Designer Ruth Zabetta was raised in both Spain and the Dominican Republic giving her a unique cultural background for her beautiful collection. Zabetta Couture is known for modern lines and cuts showcased throughout the collections, and this year is no different. Her modern but feminine collection does an exquisite job of creating beautiful silhouettes consistently though all the pieces. Zabetta’s collection is created for the modern but feminine woman and inspired by years of culture and design.

Ayni Next came an intermission from traditional Korean musician gamin playing a piri, leading into designer duo Ayni’s debut CAAFD sponsored showcase. Ayni’s dedication to ancient traditions with modern sensibilities and environmentally sustainable practices left the audience in awe with the sheer beauty of their pieces. Featuring sheer materials and swimsuit inspired cuts, Ayni’s collection evoked the warmer months. The main colors utilized were reds, yellows and blues Ayni’s name, which is derived from a Peruvian turn of phrase meaning “today for you, tomorrow for me,” gives a look into the design process for the design duo, composed of Danish Laerke, and Adriana from Peru. Through Ayni, the duo make good on their name by making the brand focused on honoring ancient traditions, utilizing local materials and altering the production model to promote environmental sustainability. One of Ayni’s main goals is to combine ethics and aesthetics in a way that benefits the environment, but still remaining fashionable by using high quality elements such as luxurious baby alpaca fur and Pima cotton.

Thunyatorn Finishing off this showcase was also a debut on a CAAFD sponsored showcase, this time for the Thai designer Thunyatorn. Much like Ayni’s collection that showcased heritage and tradition, Thunyatorn also made genius use of her Thai heritage in her pieces, which brought something the majority of the audience had never experienced before. Thunyatorn made quite an impression with gold headpieces on each model, featuring animals in 3D designs, which perfectly complemented
the dark colors and cuts of the dresses, which all meshed incredibly well with each other.
Thunyatorn is the brainchild of Thunyatorn Ng, a designer originally hailing from Thailand. Starting in bridal makeup and hairstyling in 2009 when she moved to New York City, she later became the first Thai fashion designer to present during New York Fashion Week. After noticing a demand for traditional authentic Thai styled clothing, Thunyatorn took things into her own hands and spent years researching Thai styles and influences, which she has incorporated into her collections. Through her work, Thunyatorn seeks to popularize authentic Thai clothing across the U.S. by combining its traditional beauty with modern stylings.

HELENA BAJAJ-LARSEN Later in the day came the Industria collective showcase, which kicked off with an impressive introduction performance by musician Yoav Shemmesh, featuring the musician on a keytar and launchpad device which provided the rhythm sections for his playing. Following the performance was the first designer for this showcase, Helena Bajaj-Larsen. Featuring striking colors that remained consistent with through each design. Each piece featured unique designs, with no one inspiration, there were bits and pieces from various different countries and regions represented Designer Helena Bajaj-Larsen is Half-Indian, Half-Norwegian yet Parisian born and bred, 23-year old designer Helena-Bajaj Larsen is a recent graduate of Parsons School of Design and launched her label just six months ago. She specializes in hand-painted textiles which she creates herself - works of abstract art on fabric, blending her love of textile craftsmanship with her training in fashion design. She draws inspiration from her nomadic lifestyle across various countries and cultures to form breathtaking collections using her one-of-a-kind fabrics as well as stunning sculptural jewelry pieces.

KADRI KLAMPE
Following that came Estonian born designer Kadri Klampe with her Yufash brand. This collection featured extremely unique cuts and sheer materials, creating an entirely unique look. Yufash played with colors and designs throughout each piece, featuring almost glitchlike patterns “A Yufash woman doesn’t follow trends; she sets them.” The brand has been worn by members of Little Mix and Billie Lourd in the hit tv series Scream Queens, and Yufash was also featured in an international edition of Marie Claire. Yufash is a unique and forward-thinking brand made for the confident and powerful women of the world, with all garments fabricated in England. The brand was founded in 2015 and since has skyrocketed in popularity. “We as a brand are so excited and honored to have been selected to work the CAAFD, and we look forward to our presentation,” - Kadri Klampe, the Estonian-born founder and designer of Yufash.

SANIA STUDIO
Next came an intermission played by Yoav Shemmesh once again who played a custom CAAFD inspired piece which thrilled the audience goers, which led into Sania Studio and designer Sania Maskatiya with her Pakistani influences clear in her collection. The cuts in this collection remained modern, but the designs and colors were clearly inspired by Pakistan influences. Designer Sania Maskatiya and Sania Studio’s designs are marked by their ornate and regal inspirations, which masterfully highlight feminine silhouettes. The designs are inspired by the beauty of nature and the environment while still being modern and classic. The collection will include only high luxe fabrics cut and draped in a luxurious design. The design house engages in some of the best craftsmanship in Pakistan, coming from generations of artisans who have specialized and perfected their craft. The brand is known for including rich textiles, fabric design and embroidery within their pieces. Sania Maskatiya has quickly become Pakistan's most lauded designer and most prized fashion export.

PATRICIA WIJAYA
Finishing this showcase came Patricia Wijaya, a graduate of the Academy of Arts, who closed NYFW with a bang. This showcase left New York City awed with an extraordinarily unique collection featuring fantastical inspired cuts and eye catching headwear. This collection had an underlying dark color palette, with dark blue and golds represented heavily to great effect. The shoes for this collection were provided by Cava Prive and jewelry was done by Dale Beevers Patricia Wijaya started her label in 2016 after graduating Academy of Art University in San Francisco. The label first released a PrĂŞtA-Couture line in Jakarta, which focused on telling a story and showcasing innovation throughout. This years collection is inspired by both fairytales and technology, and showcases a Cinderella like aesthetic in the future. For this collection, Wijaya created what has been described by early viewers as an exquisite collection of a modern day fairytale for the equally modern woman.

Andrea, founder of A.L.C., stated that her 2019 Spring collection was a study in low-key yet strong pieces with an emphasis on uplifting colors. Bold color has been the big story at A.L.C. Sunflower-yellow pants and wrap dresses made exclusively for in-the-know fashion types; welcoming and democratic, and will make a vivid statement. Look forward to Spring royal purple dresses, neon lime blouses, and poppy knits.

Faded Images of Innocence & Power Memories and thoughts age, just as people do. But certain thoughts can never age, and certain memories can never fade; H. Murakami wrote in one of his books. The series of images invites you on a journey through the misty fields of Innocence and Power, through two intertwined sides of the psyche. JJ Jordan is a London based graphic designer and photographer passionate about portrait photography, at the same time a great fan of the Dutch Golden Age painters such as Hals, Vermeer and Rembrandt. Their works inspired him to recreate the same mood and painterly feel in a series of studio portraits. Although the inspiration goes back to the 17th century the series has a definite modern twist.
