ZERO GRAVITY WORLD 01 Small Bang
01
Visualization of Gravity
Purity ± α The language descending from hundreds of thousands of years ago which are being used by the majority of people holds valid and tremendous meaning. I believe this is a force. When considering basic Geometric as a numerical value - purity, basics, restraint, and nature - 1.0, designing space is adding 0.0001 to even 100 to the original value. I define them as an “Action force.” Action force creates and affects a phenomenon. In a Pure Geometry, I believe a Action Force is a thought and interpretation of an architect that involves a process of adding and subtracting. I interpret the process from the purity to the application with universal gravitation (gravity). <Zero Gravity World> series is enhanced by the concept that connects the subtle movement of humans and the existing force in the ground, based on my career of double majoring in interior architecture and architectural engineering. Starting from the process of visualizing the gravity in <Small Bang> at 2016 graduation thesis, I suggested an underground city <Defying Gravity> in UIA International Studio in 2017 which seems to reject the gravity by hanging in the sky. In <Dynamic Lift> series, I agonize about today’s issues via <Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland> and <Multifaceted Housing: Dormitory> and suggest a future feasible utopia that people from different classes can live together. I am suggesting a new and alternative form of cities and the architectural factors with the effect of plus and minus of the integer of 1.0 and going to build a sustainable architecture that people can recognize by occupying the environment in a different way. About the immediate issues that our society faces such as the imbalance of wealth, environmental pollution, economic crisis, and the movement of North Koreans and economic and political problems that will arise after the unification, architecture can surely suggest solutions for them. For the solutions, I will approach them with Architectural Design Methodology related to the researches so far and gravities.

SMALL BANG Yonsei University Interior Architecture Graduation Thesis 2016 _2016.09 ~ 2016.11 _Academic _Instructor : Hyunsoo Lee _Individual Thesis
Is the black color you are looking at truly black? The adoption of core seems like a trauma on a building. It is used only as a passageway in using the building but may dig up holes on the building. But this does not mean one can move on the shortest path through the core. To go over from space A to space B, one must roam around the mazelike building to find the core. But the core has infinite potential. If black ink is dropped on wet paper, the ink reacts on the paper, splits into various colors of concentric circle form, and spreads all over. As the black you are looking at is not true black, the core itself can become the starting point and deliver positive energy to the building as the big bang of the universe started from the dark spot, which is compared to a ‘small explosion.’
WORM HOLE CORE IN A CULTURAL CENTER
Shortcut in Universe
Visualization of Gravity
A warm hole means a shortcut connecting two space-times in the universe. If a time-space is folded and the two desired points are connected to touch each other, then a hyperspace is formed in between. If you pass through the warm hole, you can reach one point of the universe from another point in a much shorter time.
Enter the gravity value and time value on a program called Gephi using the tool called Force Atlas. Here, the goal is to find an adequate point between the maximum gravity and the minimum gravity. Phase 1 0’ 0”
Through the research of a gravity force mechanism operated through Gephi, the notion of the trace in movement as a way to document change in space and time became central to the project.

500 Egdes Table
Give a name-value to each of the divided pixels. (Example: Auditorium-a (function-unit)) The divided pixels become a total of 248 nodes.
Here, create an Edge connecting the nodes to connect by a program between the plains as if folding the time-space. A total of 500 Edges are created this way.

As time goes by, the dots and lines arranged disorderly spread out by drawing a concentric circle according to the corresponding gravity value

‘Hyperspace’ Formed Between Plans The nodes drawn previously become the center of the arc and their cross-section is cut by the intersection of the arcs drawn. In this process, a new core is inserted at the vertex where the arc intersects.

The core moves endlessly for 24 hours and becomes one huge organism. People enjoy each program in their core and experience boundaries as if they are traveling throu gh life across time-spaces that exist everywhere. The core goes beyond a simple passageway and becomes a space that can be actively occupied.

GRAVITY ROOM Spring 2019 _Preparation : 2019.01-2019.03 / Exhibition : 2019.03.01-05.28 _Professional Work Space Design : plot architecture (S.tak Joo, Myungju Ko) Curator : Jimin Lee Coordinator : Eunju Kim, Jooyeon Lee Artist: Ahmet Ogut _The Seoul Museum of Art (SeMA)
Centrifugal force acts like gravity in static space. In this process, the centrifugal force ultimately becomes gravity.
March 1, 2019 was the centennial anniversary of the March First Independence Movement in South Korea. Looking back on the past 100 years, the Seoul Museum of Art held the exhibition <Zero Gravity World>, which sheds new light on the March First Independence Movement and the history thereafter in the language of modern art based on the world history. This exhibition aims to retrace the history based on the international standard of cosmopolitanism beyond the restrictive interpretation of Korea-Japan relationship. As a space designer, I created the exhibition space with S.Ju. The Gravity Room is a collaborative art of Turkish artist Ahmet Ögut’s idea with the space proposal of plot architecture and study.
Incapacitation of the gravity
We set up a steep slope in the first part of the venue. This work has been designed to reflect the intent to emasculate Kafkaesque elements of governance and suppression with gravity. Each viewer has no choice but to pass over the slope by defying gravity, and they eventually find themselves situated in a non-hierarchical arena in the course of passing through it.

Then, we installed a sketch related to nation-state (Ahmet Ögut drawing) when the fight with Gravity and special act are impossible. This is a metaphor that while historical incidents overturning the dominant epistemology are as difficult as tracing up the universal gravitation in the reverse direction, but they guarantee a hopeful progress.

MORE SWEETLY PLAY THE DANCE Spring 2019 _Preparation : 2019.01-2019.03 / Exhibition : 2019.03.01-05.28 _Professional Work Space Design : plot architecture (MJ Ko, S.tak Ju) Curator : Jimin Lee Coordinator : Eunju Kim, Jooyeon Lee Artist: William Kentridge Studio _The Seoul Museum of Art (SeMA)
<More Sweetly Play the Dance> is the fourth work in <Zero Gravity World> exhibition. In collaboration with a South African artist Kentridge, this work consisting of a 7-channel screen shows various people dancing and marching into the clockwise direction in the background drawn with charcoal by the artist. The work depicts one way of living life to overcome the rule and violence by dancing more sweetly.

A combination of shadow play, ballet, street theater, music and film <More Sweetly Play the Dance>, a seven-channel video on show at this exhibition features a procession of people dancing and journeying clockwise from screen to screen against a background drawn by Kentridge in charcoal. People keep dancing and singing in scenes that remind one of a funeral procession or a procession of refugees. It’s the way of life in which we overcome dominance and violence while sweetly dancing.

DEFYING GRAVITY Underground Networking City in Euljiro UIA International Studio 2017 _2017.02 ~ 2017.05 _Academic _Instructor : Sang Yun Lee _Individual Work
This project is about underground architecture that is dug into, not architecture stacked from the ground. As if a building is hung upside down from the sky, this place that seems to be refusing gravity is below Euljiro where the existing underground commercial complex is located. The underground is not affected by weather and air quality, and can create an energetic complex space by naturally absorbing the floating population in main transfer points such as subway stations In the future 50 years from now, we will probably find the possibility underground, the possibility that was not discovered on the earth due to increased population and oversaturated buildings.

The underground passage in Euljiro 3-ga Station exists merely as a physical passageway, and does not have any sequence other than to transfer. As a result, the site cannot express its full potential and disappears dryly from line no.2 to line no.3.

Full of Potential Although it’s small, the target area can be the main hub of the enormous underground space of Seoul in the urban context. This is connected with the Sejong-daero Underground Road Project extended to Gwanghwamun Gate by 2020 and can be the beginning of the Seoul urban development project in the future. I propose an underground urban network to Euljiro 3-ga as a strategy that connects the underground space with the ground and connects the sequence of transfer system in the underground.

"It is a room that a person can only enter when they have real need of it. Sometimes it is there, and sometimes it is not, but when it appears, it is always equipped for the seeker's needs" —Dobby explaining to Harry Potter the abilities of the Room of Requirement
The purpose of this project is to create a caregiving classroom inside an elementary school for children, who are not taken care by their parents after school due to their family living situations. Children like creating so-called ‘space.’ If I were to recall my childhood, I also sometimes crawled underneath my desk, wrapped myself with a comforter, and created my own Room of Requirement. The room was a secret place that could not be discovered by any and not be seen by anyone inside it. I designed all modules proposed in this project according to the behavioral desires of children who constantly crawl in and hid, as if another space is created inside a space. Children play with the space and enjoy it as if they play with toys.

Concept Drawing of Module Combination
Inside the module, the children experience boundaries across the space that exists here and there. This reminds of Alice who travels the infinite space through the small passage of a rabbit burrow. The boundary of space used by individual Alice diversifies infinitely so that Alice can now actively use the play space.

MULTIFACETED HOUSING Regionalization of Campus Housing /Renovation
Autumn 2016 _2016.09 ~ 2016.12 _Academic _Instructor : Soontak Joo, Jooeun Sung _Individual Work
In reality, it is difficult to reach a compromise as the opposite hegemony of the two generations, university students looking for ‘cheaper and cozier house’ and renters ‘housing as a means of profitmaking’ collide. Amidst the notions that one will inevitably lose if another gains, the ‘Multifaceted Housing’ proposes an unconventional solution. This project seeks to presents and constructs the new relationship of school and region by separating and scattering the enormous spaces of the dorm, where rooms densely fill the small area of school, to the wide street outside the school. New campus housing where the different hegemony of the new generation and old generation harmoniously collide. It is hoped that the heart-wrenching youth adolescent issue of today’s ear is solved starting in Sinchon and that a positive community where two opposite stances can coexist spreads.

A new multifaceted dorm is placed on the highly-steep site, which used to be a barrier to pedestrians. This means that the existing, gigantic masses are divided and combined with the commercial district, scattering to various locations and heights. The site, where it was difficult to walk straight due to many retaining walls, combines with new contents and finds a new walking network.

Separated and Scattered Spaces The scattered spaces connected by various vocabularies and have a terrace or yard of different sizes instead of the long and narrow corridor or dark and closed stairs inside the dorm that are generally known. These become spaces with various potentials thanks to active contact with outside spaces, enabling the opportunities of impromptu meetings between Sinchon commercial men and university students. Also, the walking path that was a problem due to the high steep transforms into a clear and comfortable walking path thanks to the horizontally and vertically connected passage inside the dorm.
A New Walking Network The upper and lower parts of existing buildings are connected organically through varied gestures and become accessible through various paths rather than the entrance to each of the individual buildings. The new paths bring chances to small spaces that are abandoned in-between the existing buildings designed to use the maximum land surface, without considering the relationship with the surrounding buildings.

Songdo Incheon City is a developed land covered with tidal flats, most of which are flat. This city is a newly planned area and there is an urban axis acoordingly. The site is at the point where those axes intersect. While preserving the urban and natural axis, we designed a mass that can be naturally dissolved in nature.

Extended Park The green space is extended from Songdo Central Park to the museum as a 'Plaza'and 'Roof Park' that accommodates various sized outdoor events, that enrich the cultural identity of the museum. 3 pieces of exhibition zones are laid underneath the sloped roof surface, which lets you out onto the roof park from exhibition spaces II & III through the valleys. And this intimate relationship between main exhibition spaces and external exhibition spaces on the roof park will boost people's casual visits which then can be emerged further.

A BUILDING OF REGULATION Winter 2018 _2018.12 ~ 2019.03 _Built _Professional Work in plot architecture _Lead Architect : Soon tak, Joo _Assistant Architectural Designer, Drawing, 3D Modeling _Mixed Use _324m², Gangnam-gu, Seoul, Republic of Korea
‘Floor Area Ratio,’ a must-know terminology in Korean architecture, means the total floor area ratio of the structure against the earth space. A high FAR means that a structure with a wider area can be erected on a limited land, which is directly connected to the investment value of the structure, i.e. money.
Then, does restraint oppress creativity? It is difficult to criticize city and architecture with the aesthetic standard, showing that the conditions and restrictions confronting Korean architects are difficult issues to be addressed. To create a beautiful structure while securing the floor space index as much as possible, we decided to counter-use the regulations and use them as a design tool.
