Portals &

& Villains

Once we were

walking in the

forest and we saw a fox. The fox said, “There’s a portal to Candyland.” There was a candy playland. You have to cross over

the playground to get to the other side. At the other side, there was underground cave and then you go in it to get to the Candyland portal.

2

After you go through the portal, you meet Fred, who shows you around Candyland. Then, they get lost in a forest. They saw a mad gingerbread man. The ginger bread’s name is Gingerbread IO.

They met a rainbow unicorn, and the unicorn showed the way home. After they get home, they go to a shop, and it’s a lollipop shop. They met a lollipop name Lolly Popkins who’s very mysterious.

3

She’s evil and up to something. And then someone comes and knows what the girl’s going to do, so she protects them and takes them to her cave. She found some elves, then the Candyland can see

that Lolly Popkins is evil. He knows what she’s going to do, but he can’t talk, so he can’t warn them. They only know that she’s bad. They ask her to leave this place. After she tells them to leave the

4

place, she gives them a lollipop. They fell for the trick. They licked the lollipop then fell asleep because it was poisonous. When they woke up, they were in a cave surrounded by Lolly Popkins

and the evil ginger bread man. They were scared. Then, they remembered they have a key and then, while the others were sleeping, they opened the door very quietly. Then they get out of the

5

cave. They go to the Candyland Forest to see the portal to hop back in it so they can get back to the other forest to go home, but she saw a really big pig and a cow. An evil pig and evil cow. After that, they

find an evil cookie hiding behind a tree. The evil cookie comes out and he’s using his crumby powers. The gingerbread man comes and take him back to Candyland. Then they find the other treasure

chest with friends inside, and they use it to get back to the forest. And then a talking unicorn takes them home. The unicorn wants to play with them. They got a special gem because

they went on an adventure. Everyone thought they were heroes and a little strange. The End

The Candy F

First Aid Kit

At the Candyland

Hotel in space, Fred broke three bones in his legs. Enzo the puppy hurt his eye, and Blaze the dog hurt his ear. Freddie the mouse went missing when

he got hurt because he got scared. Freddie found Benjamin the elf. Benjamin wanted to take a vacation from going to the North Pole, so he went to the

9

Candyland Hotel on a vacation. As Benjamin flew over the Candyland Hotel, his magic stopped working, but the jelly in the candy forest caught him as he fell. Freddie jumped out the door

and used his own superpowers to fly away, and went to see what happened. Benjamin used a candy first aid kit, including the color of the frosting, to heal Fred’s legs. Then everything went back to

normal and they celebrated! And then they moved to candy Mars. The End.

The Choco

olate Pond

Fred steps on gum

outside of the pond and gets stuck in the gum and then he falls into the melted chocolate pond, which was melted by the sun. Fred is treading

in the chocolate pond for five hours before he can get out. At first Fred was very happy in the chocolate, but after five hours he was very bored.

13

In order to get out, Fred eats some of the chocolate pond! It tastes like milk chocolate jelly but is actually dark chocolate, and it feels very sticky all over! After eating a lot of the chocolate,

Fred starts to feel sick. The two puppies, Sparkles and Cupcake, come to help Fred and start eating the chocolate as well. The puppies then bring a boat to get Fred out of the pond, and Fred

14

exclaims “this is SO sticky I officially hate chocolate!” The End.

826 National was inspired to take a stand on issues of inclusion and diversity in light of the many events that spotlighted social and racial injustices throughout the country. We as educators, volunteers, and caring adults need to be aware of the wide range of issues our students face on a day-to-day basis. We need to support these young people as they navigate through and try to make sense of the world and their own identities. We need the support and the feedback from our community to ensure 826 is living up to these standards. Through our inclusion statement, our internal diversity and inclusion group, cultural competency resources provided to staff and volunteers, and partnerships with other organizations, we are always working towards being a more inclusive and supportive organization. We at 826 have the privilege of working with the next generation of scholars, teachers, doctors, artists, lawyers, and writers. It's our job to make sure they are able to take their own stands. As an organization committed to encouraging youth in their creative expression, personal growth, and academic success, 826 National and its chapters recognize the importance of diversity at all levels and in all aspects of our work. In order to build and maintain the safe, supportive 826 environment in which great leaps in learning happen, we commit ourselves to inclusion: we do not discriminate on the basis of race, religion, ethnicity, age, gender identity, sexual orientation, socio-economic status, nationality, marital status, English fluency, parental status, military service, or disability. The 826 National network is committed to encouraging youth to express themselves and to use the written word to effectively do so. We encourage our students to write, take chances, make decisions, and finish what they start. And 826 strives to do this in an environment free from discrimination and exclusion.
