Manifesto We are privileged to be a part of a rich, diverse community. But, with diversity comes a great need for inclusion, a need for representation that voices the needs and concerns of all students. I can be this voice. I am this voice. I want to start a movement that advocates for the struggles and accomplishments of all students. I want to introduce an era of inclusivity to the university, which vocalises the diversity of circumstances that impacts the welfare of all students. Voting for me is voting for hope and change. Manifesto I’m not promising the impossible, however transformation is my leading ambition as an independent candidate the assurance which I present is that I’m determined to do everything in my power to represent each and everyone and support whatever ideas are put forward to me. Now more than ever we have to stand up, demand equality, honor our differences, support one another, believe in what we can achieve and be the change. Leadership cannot run on empty promises, students need change now more than ever, systems need to be put in place and accountability needs to take priority. Manifesto For the past 10 years, excluding EFF and DASO, there has only been 2 political parties governing student relations. Therefore, we as a student community, have been settling for what we have viewed as the best out of a restricted option. It’s like deciding between whether you want Lucifer or Satan to govern your life. Considering this restriction of choices in voting for SRC, you need to ask yourself, if it has served you a purpose for your voice to be heard by voting, if your voice has not been listened to. Together we can decentralize the SRC, and give the average student a practical, influential voice. So vote Bronwyn February number 15 and vote for independence. Because the people must govern; by the power of the people, for the well-being of the people - in the absence of evidently dysfunctional political parties.

Manifesto I believe that students who are not as politically inclined also deserve to be represented. I believe I am a suitable candidate because I have gotten to experience all different types of students on our campus both politically and socially and will surely be a good representative of both on our collective quest of a decolonized institution. I’ve gotten to know many personally and their experience at UWC. It is not news that this institution has direly failed its students and has been very violent and harsh towards them yet it must ensure that its graduate students remain competitive in the market. As an institution it is prejudice, bureaucratic unnecessary and unacceptable in some of its practices, and because of this fact I’ll make it my responsibility and priority as a student representative to alleviate this unfairness on students by: 1.

Understanding, mitigating and communicating the presence of bias to students by management. Especially in the avenue of administration

2. Be responsible for maximizing social benefit and minimizing harm. 3. Practice humility and openness. 4. Make reasonable efforts to know and document policy that affect students and document its transformation. Such policies include the policy on admission to the undergraduate and postgraduate studies, admission to residence and the overall registration process. 5. Administer the process of the institution prioritizing the mental health of students. 6. Reduce hunger on campus by Proposing the implementation of a hydroponic garden as a continuous and sustainable feeding scheme incentive because canned foods are not enough and also no nutritious to keep students mentally viable and healthy, seeds are quite frankly not that expensive for there not be such an incentive already existing on a university with so much land around it. 7. And prioritize entrepreneurship incentives for students on campus. My Leadership Experience: House Committee 2018/2019 Extra-Curricular: FYF, Res Café Building is a deliberate action. Manifesto I possess the correct balance of level-headedness and resilience. In my 3 years at University, I’ve seen the daily needs of students being neglected by management. However, I believe I have the knowledge and ability to make meaningful changes for all university students. The agenda of the SRC should be that of the students and not of any political party. Therefore I am proud to run as an independent candidate. The focus of my SRC tenure will be to achieve: Administrative Fluidity, Basic Resource Procurement, Equitable Resource Allocation and Academic Development.

Manifesto I aim to form part of an SRC that will be accountable to students first, before any political organization. This is the only way the SRC can be transparent , functional and visible in advocating for students rights on campus. We have pressing matters right now that affect students and I stand to facilitate an excellent student experience on campus by being an advocate of the students. My duties begin with ensuring the provision of OPEN ACCESS to Campus to ALL students of UWC while exercising the covid 19 limits on certain spaces. The migration to elearning has affected many students therefore to ensure no student is left behind I pledge to advocate for NO academic or financial exclusion consequently no students who were accommodated in 2020 should be excluded from 2021 Residential Placement. I’m committed to holistic student development and empowerment hence my vision is to see the empty offices in the Student Center and Reslife center converted to creative spaces that can be used by UWC student entrepreneurs and innovative creatives for creating and operating student markets. My mission is to create the most interactive campus that is constantly moving forward hence I intend to create an online Students’ Response system where you as a student, have an opportunity to provide anonymous feedback on services received from various UWC Student Service Providers including the SRC. Sadly our students on campus have experienced injustice acts of GBV in our campus, that is why we need to aid the existing systems with creating a safe and accessible digital GBV response space that students can use 24/7 anonymously (or not) for support or/and reporting. SRC should aims to support students a academically as well , that is why the creation of ‘ WASHA STUDENT’: an ikamva add on platform that students can login to when they feel they are not doing well academically so they can get academic counseling and provided with practical ways of ensuring they qualify for writing exams is necessary . This is to ensure there are less dropouts and academic exclusions. For all this to be possible your support is needed , we as students should do away with national politics and focus on practical issues that affect us . Vote for change and VOTE KHUSELWA KAFU.

21 Manifesto Three strong and simple principles are at the forefront of my SRC candidacy: 1.

Accountability: Unlike any candidate associated with a political party, I only answer to you, the student, instead of the policies and personnel in the party. The only person I am directed by and answer to is the voice of your command.

2. Fair access to resources: Everyone deserves equal access to the resources of the university. My aim is to ensure you are granted your rightful access to resources to best advance your needs and priorities. 3. Representation: Student leadership is supposed to be all about you, the student. I pledge that to you, the student will have a leader who will advocate for your needs and concerns. I pledge the following seven (7) points as my manifesto to you: 1.

The provision of improved access to student housing and revisit accommodation policies of UWC.

2020 SRC ONLINE ELECTION Candidate information SASCO Wanga Sigila Manifesto The South African Students Congress (SASCO) is guided by the principles of non-racialism, non-sexism and democracy. Our approach to activism has the following pillars: Campus Work, Policy Work, Community Work, International Work and Building a strong student movement to defend and advance students’ interests. Institutional Transformation We have an obligation to amend institutional policies that are not student friendly. We call for the review of the Admission and Re-Admission Policy, and Sexual Violence Policy. SASCO will continue campaigning against racism, xenophobia, homophobia, corruption and prejudice. My Land My Accommodation There is accommodation of 3200 bed space for about 24 000 students and a work in progress of 2700 beds. Our call for more bed spaces will ensure that more UWC students have access to on campus facilities and resources. SASCO advocates for the University to own all residences. Safety and Security Campus must be a safe space for students and especially for women and the LGBTQIA+ community. All perpetrators found guilty must be removed from our spaces. CPS must increase patrol around blind spots on campus. Support Services We campaign for Primary Health Care, Rape Crisis Centre, Counselling services and CPS emergency unit for students in Private Accommodation and those who suffer academically and emotionally. SASCO will have an additional Food Program with the existing SDS-Tygerbrands initiative, and a sanitary towel drive in designated areas. Dining Hall facility SASCO calls for the reopening of the ResLife dining hall facility. Online Learning/E-Learning SASCO advocates for Access, Success and Redress. Online learning is a threat to the previously disadvantaged students. SASCO acknowledges the IR4. However, social realities do not allow this digital epoch to manifest itself without disadvantaging the poor and working class. Tutorials must facilitate the use of online learning; data must be free; integration of the digital world should adopt a universal approach of access. One student, One laptop! Academic Excellence Faculty Councils must be implemented to champion faculty related matters. Students who stay off campus rely on

public transport and therefore are exposed to the criminal activities in society. As an alternative, they should have access to online assessments. Free Education and abolishment of upfront payments The SASCO led SRC will ďŹ ght for free registration of all students and the abolishment of upfront fee payments. UWC Radio Frequency We will continue to ensure our Radio Station frequency so that UWC Radio goes live. Support and treatment of all sports SASCO calls for the equal support and treatment of all sporting codes. Free Course Readers SASCO guarantees the roll out of free course readers. Prescribed material in the library SASCO calls for increase of prescribed material in the University Library. Unfair/ Discriminatory Marking SASCO is against unfair or discriminatory marking; only student numbers should be inserted in all assessments. Mark my work, not my surname. Private Accommodation SASCO advocates for a quarterly review of all accredited private accommodation. This must be done by CHC, SRC and off campus student forum and SDS officials. We will ensure that a safety route between Campus and Private Accommodation of Belhar and Bellville South is established. University Residences It is time for the University to buy the DisaHof residence before the Western Cape DA government buys all four towers leaving students with no accommodation. We demand a revamping of the Gorvalla Residence. SASCO will address the unhygienic bathrooms and kitchens in Cassinga, Chris Hani, Liberty and Hector Peterson. Transport The University together with SRC should enter into an agreement with the Minister of Transport and taxi associations to put in place a student friendly transport system for commuter students. We advocate for a transport subsidy for commuter students. VOTE SASCO!
