Performing Daily Life Along The City Wall at The City Wall Library.

When we stand between the back lanes and the city wall, we realize ourselves being both an individual and a collective. When walking on the borders of the city, the city wall becomes a significant distinction. The relationship between ourselves and society and the surrounding environment is allocated. This wall was once the boundary between the inside and the outside of the city, and also as the boundary between land and sea. Various forces on the boundary disturbed each other, showing a dynamic relationship of the spatial sequence from inside to outside of the city.

My site is located next to the Dui Yue Gate in Tainan City.

The east side of the site directly faces the side gate of Jifu Temple and the space behind the residence. The west side faces the old city wall ruins.

I placed thick walls of different scales here, suggesting the public spaces of different scales overlap. I expected that after placing the new walls in this site, people in front of the city walls, in the temple, and back alleys will interact in a new way.

If we walk on the stairs alongside the city wall, we will see this miniature book theater carry out our daily life that we are familiar with.

George Town Waterfront Redevelopment - Life Theater

My concept of this project is “Life Theater”. As a World Heritage Site, George Town has a lot of valuable day-to-day life. However, when we visited George Town, I found that tourists took up all the space, and the local people became tourists in their own city. Therefore, we want to create a “Life Theater” here, to make invisible into visible.

There are three main characters in the “Life Theater”. One is Local, another one is the tourist, and the other one is the government. What we want to do is to rebuild the relationship between these three. In this theater, we want to break the fourth wall between the actors and the audiences, as well as the wall between the local people and the tourists.

When you experience a series of scenes in our “Life Theater”, you will receive different stimulation from different groups of people. It’s like a journey to travel through time in George Town from “Waterfront Stage” to “Preservation Market” and to the “Recreation Center”.

Caogongzhen Water System

I use "the space between man and water" as the medium to demonstrate the contemporary "relationship between man and water" here.

The city and the sea collide with the civilization and development of Kaohsiung, the port city, and the spatial characteristics of water in this city have also changed over time. What used to be a network is now simplified to four linear rivers. The oversimplifed water system creates a kind of fracture experience and causes food problems in cities.

After overlaying the maps of ancient and modern water systems, it is found that the new flood detention ponds are mostly located in the former Gupi pond, and the intersection of the new interception station and the Aihe River is mostly where the former Caogongzhen tributary was located.

The park is an excellent place for "Co-living" to occur.

People walk, stare in a daze, and walk their dogs here. There are unlimited possibilities that are not limited here. Diferent groups of users meet unexpectedly here, adding the thickness and richness of the community. This case provides a completely open ground floor, just like the gossip under the banyan tree and the shade of the cool breeze. It is a large living room shared by urban residents.

This feld is between public and private.

Citizens and universities intersect vivid lines and share SHARED SPACE, making it a place to share architecture and life. The large square in front of the factory on the frst foor is the starting point for architectural experiments and also serves as a stage for presenting architectural thinking in front of the citizens. Follow the moving line down to enter the factory, and up to the lecture hall, studio and class space.

This design creates space in the form of shape and structure. The main goal of the shape and structure unit is to create a daily-life-stage and increase the mobility here. The unit itself has a vertical height difference, providing a different level of viewing and being viewed, thereby distinguishing the relationship between the main and the secondary, the performer and the audience in the daily life scene. The equal-volume space is composed of fxed-ratio modular units and reorganized in different directions and heights, so that the interest of the residence itself is highlighted, and users are invited to walk in and have an impromptu performance!
