Reservoirs recover following record rainfall!

What took three years to deplete, recovered in a matter of weeks thanks to the nearly 20 inches of rain that has fallen in North Texas over the last two months. All of the water district’s reservoirs are now full. It’s a 40 percent jump in water supply storage from where we were sitting at the beginning of the year. This is the fourth wettest start to the year on record. And with all this rain, it is important to remember to conserve water! For more information regarding the Twice-Weekly Watering Schedule, please see page 4 of this newsletter or visit www.savedallaswater.com.

P

resident Abraham Lincoln issued the Emancipation Proclamation on September 22, 1862. Although rumors of freedom for the slaves were widespread, actual emancipation for slaves in Texas did not come until two and half years later when General Gerdon Granger rode into Galveston, Texas issuing General Order No. 3 on June 19, 1865. As the news spread, thousands flooded the streets of Galveston, rejoicing in their newfound freedom and celebration with song, dance and prayer; creating the day we now celebrate as Juneteenth to commemorate

African American freedom. Today, these same celebrations are an opportunity to remember the past, recognize the significant contributions of African Americans, celebrate our diversity, and reinforce our hope for the future. The City of Lancaster is pleased to join the cities of Duncanville, DeSoto, and Cedar Hill in the Best Southwest Juneteenth Arts and Music Festival, Celebrating Freedom through Diversity, honoring the oldest known celebration of the ending of slavery. This year’s Juneteenth Festival will be hosted by the City of Cedar Hill on Saturday, June 20, 2015 from 5:00 p.m. to 10:00

espite all the new ways to communicate with us, we are still available to talk in person. Whether you have a question or are looking to partner with the City, we are here to take your calls. Below is a list of frequently called City departments and divisions. Save this list so you can have these important phone numbers readily available when you need them.

DROUGHT CONTINGENCY PLAN... WHAT DOES THIS MEAN FOR YOU? The City of Lancaster has implemented a mandatory watering restriction (2 watering days) in accordance with Stage 2 of the Lancaster Drought Contingency Plan. As a City of Dallas wholesale water customer, Lancaster is enacting the Drought Contingency Plan to address the ongoing drought weather conditions impacting Dallas’ water supply. Water conservation measures are in place to facilitate a goal of a five percent (5%) reduction in water consumption. Residents are restricted from watering between 10:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m., and only specific days as identified to the right.

For more detailed information regarding the Mandatory Stage 2 Watering Restrictions, please visit www.lancaster-tx.com or contact the City of Lancaster Public Works Department at (972) 275-1752.
