Fixed glazed roofs are a contemporary structural solution for residences and professional spaces. They are used and specified by architects, designers and constructors thoughout the world, in order to ensure natural lighting in a confined space and free the user’s view up from fixed, opaque obstructions.

An even greater design challenge would be to design a roof that can withstand the glazing’s weight and additional loads (from say, snow, or winds), stay watertight, while at the same time allow its panes to retract whenever weather conditions allow. Salinox has designed a roof (S-GR: Sliding Glazed Rood) which does just that. An extraordinairily robust construction, which can, at the touch of a button, free up two thirds of the opening, while when closed it will stay watertight even under hard rainfall accompanied by strong.

Any glazed roof manufacturer’s goal is to create roof of fine aesthetic appeal, while ensuring they will function safely, in terms of supporting the glazing weight, along with other additional loads, such as snow or wind pressure, and at the same time reamaining watertight even under hard rainfall. Confidently, with many years of experience to draw from, Salinox took up the challenge and designed a fixed glazed roof which can be constructed in any size kai geometry, from simple rectangular shapes to pyramidoids and polygons. The roof is constructed with high-grade aluminum crossbeams 185x100mm in dimennsions, which can accomodate tempered glassboards, both single and double. The overall structures has been tested under very bad weather conditions, and exhibits excellent behaviour in terms of robustness and watertightness, soi ts design renders the alternative use of framed glazing and additional sealants obsolete. By using materials that will not wear off over time - aluminum and glass - and with a very smartly designed set of profiles, it maximizes the glassboard’s surface, offering an obstructed view.

Made of primary-grade aluminum alloy and internally reinforced with heavy-duty iron beams, the S-GR sliding glazed roof will endure wind, water and snow loads, without jeopardizing safety and convenience, allowing the user to marvel the view above and make use of natural light. It also employs an internal water drainage system and, optionally, an external gutter profile. The construction can be anodized and painted in a variety of electrostatic coating colours, to fit any environment. Its glass is double tempered and laminated structural glass, to ensure maximum durability against heavy loads, and allows for the largest practical pane size, reducing the barrier between the interior and external environment. The T-SR (Thermo Sliding Roof) version, does not differ significantly in terms of appearance from the S-GR version, but it entails transparent, yet very important for the space’s thermal insulation design changes in the profile. The T-SR is overall capable to substantially increase the energy efficiency index of any space.

The overall design of both the S-GR and T-SR roofs is that they contain architectural elements that make the space’s vitality more evident, as it seamlessly connects the indoors to the outdoors, while allowing to fresh air and natural light to come in.

In cases where the construction exceeds 8m in length, the roof cannot be pitched, it has to be turned into a gabbled design to ensure safety and adhere to regulation.

Salinox recommends a slope of at least 12°, to ensure good watertightness under any weather conditions. max 1600mm

Electrical motors pull up the panes, revealing two thirds of the opening, with smooth, gentle movement, adding to the construction’s overall aesthetic appeal. Each pane can be individually retracted, offering the possibility to have only partial coverage. The motor can be connected to a controller and adjusted to operate autimatically, based on scenarios and sensors (for example, opening twice a day for 5 minutes if the weather is good, to refresh the space’s air, or other scenarios for rain, wind etc.). In this way, the roof is entirely embedded in any space, with its apperance being in harmony with the interior environment. Then at the touch of a button, the user is, in a very short while, brought out to the outdoors.

The company’s design team can guarantee a completely watertight result based on the predominant weather conditions at the project’s location, and more specifically the prevailing wind profile. In broad terms, ther rule of thumb is that the stronger the winds, the greater the slope of the roof must be.

Glassboards are double tempered and laminated to maximize overall safety and robustness. Salinox recommend the use of low-e glassboards in order to ensure a cool, fresh interior environment. The glassboards are completely embodied into the building’s construction elements (structural glazing) offering a completely smooth glass surface, allowing rainwater to quickly and unobstructedly drain off the roof.

In cases of low pitched roofs (θ° < 10°) and prevailing front wind conditions, usage of additional drainage side-systems is advised.

Salinox’s sliding roofs use a heavy type of aluminum profile specially designed to accomodate an internal drainage system. Water flows off the panels to the peripheral drainage, ensure perfect functionality and watertightness even under bad wheather conditions.

One of Salinox’s most recent innovative design achievements is the family of products described as ‘‘retractable window’’ - RW, also known as ‘‘guillotine’’. It can cover a very wide range of construction needs, both indoors and outdoors, with its main feature being the ability to save up space - compared to any other solution. That is achieved by allowing one or two moveable glassboards to move along a vertical driver, so that when closed, it is arrayed with the non-moveable, fixed glassboads which cover the remaining part of the opening, so nothing needs additional or external storage. Its operation can be manual - i.e. pulling up or down the moveable pane from a knob - or motorized, using strong, reliable tubular motors which pull the panes up or down, which in turn can be remotely controlled, in a wired or wireless setup. They are ideal for external shop spaces, easy to use, and come in every possible colour and texture so that they perfectly fit its surrounding environment, while they protect the enclosed space from bad weather and noise. Their dimensions are adjusted to every project’s needs, ensuring that the glazed surface is maximized, while numerous motion arrangements are possible.

Intending to cover the market’s needs for the protection of exterior spaces, such as cafeterias and dining places, and increase the number of available seats within, Salinox offers fixed pane and retractable windbreak systems. In an attempt to make the moveable windbreak system easier to integrate with the surroundins, the product is also available with the addition of a large pot or seating. The MW40-FP can therefore be installed directly on the perimeter of shop fronts and pattios, without requiring anchoring on the floor.

MW40 Moveable sliding glazed windbreak, which employs a horizontal counterweight for smooth motion and easy use. It’s most distinguishing characteristic is its very thin profiles - 40x80mm. The construction can me modified to fit any opening dimension, with a maximum height at 2,20m, while for greater heights a fixed glass is placed on the upper end of the opening. It’s designed to fit in 8-10mm glassboards. Easy and quick installation.

Glazed folding doors and systems in general offer seamless partitioning and coverage of exposed spaces, while ensuring an otherwise exposed space is protected from noise or wind and low temperatures. Following the same principle, such systems can also be installed in confined spaces, such as offices, funtioning as separators. The storage of the individual moveable panes is easy, very compact and discreet. Salinox’s glazed folding systems are known for their wide range of choices, from which the ideal one can be selected, depending on the indidual project’s needs. They are also known for their excellent manufacturing quality and their siplicity, which, in combination with the company’s design and technical teams’ experience, it allows for inventing solutions for more difficult, more challenging projects. The aluminum used in all of Salinox’s models are characterized by the following alloy index ΕΝ ΑW-6060 T66 and are available in natural anodization, stainless steel (inox) immitation, and a wide variety of electrostatic paints and textures.

APPLICATIONS/PANE STORAGE METHODS (parking)

Parking: Folding doors move quietly with special rollers on the track rail driver which is screwed in and supported by a steelbeam. The rollers are specially designed so that the panes easily slide immediately in and out from the storage area.

Systems with hinges: Some of Salinox’s models employ hinges instead of a parking system, in order to fold up and store away, which is an excellent alternative choice for cases where a the installation of a parking systems is either impractical or impossible.

Panes are centred with respect to the driver and suspended, with the first pane’s width being the half of the rest, allowing other panes to reach up to 100cm in width. For a more symmetrical result, the last door’s width can be equal to the first.

The glazed folding door system F1 by Salinox is comprised of a series of jointed panes, held together using hinges. Pulling out the first pane, the rest follow, rendering it a simple, functional system, ideal for relatively small openings, like shop windows, and external shop spaces, such as cafeterias. It come with 10mm tempered glazing, which do not bear holes or notches, since glass suspension is achieved with Salinox’s patented design (patent No. 1004694). Each pane is secured and locked with either locks or floor latches, and can be adjusted taking under account the floors morphology and other particularities of each individual project. Watertightness is achieved with transparent polycarbonate or aluminum profiles fitted in between adjacent panes, while the end panes on the opening’s sides bear synthetic brushes. The upper and lower profiles come equipped with similar brushes, covering gaps in the most efficient possible manner. 46

Salinox’s F2 glazed folding door is a heavy duty system designed for a wide range of applications. It is ideal for large openings of any kind, from shop fronts to the perimetric enclosure of exposed and unsheltered constructions (i.e. pergolas), basically any large space that will on occasion need partitioning. It can support an unlimited number of panes, each one of which can be transfered and parked in a designated remote area - a parking space. It glazing is 10mm tempered uniform glassboards - bearing no holes or notches, since it the pane is clamped and held in place with Salinox’s patented method (patent No. 1004694). Each pane is secured and locked with latches and or floor locks and can be modified to adapt to any flooring and floor morphology, as well as any other particularity. Any pane can also be turned into an opening/divertable door, functioning as an entrance, once a roof spring mechanism is fit in. Such entrances can be both single and double winged. Watertightness is achieved by using transparent polycarbonate or aluminum joint-covers between the panes. The upper and lower horizontal profiles bear synthetic insulative brushes which cover the gaps effectively enough to keep the construction watertight and insulated as well as possible. 51

The F3 folding door system was the first ever system designed to accomodate double glazing. The double glassboards are contained within an aluminum frame for better insulation and durability in more demanding, more challengin environments. It is ideal therefore ideal for large openings where additional insulation, robustness and safety are desirable. Each pane is secured and locked with latches and or floor locks and can be modified to adapt to any flooring and floor morphology, as well as any other particularity. Any pane can also be turned into an opening/divertable door, functioning as an entrance, once a roof spring mechanism is fit in. Such entrances can be both single and double winged. Watertightness between the panes is achieved by using bubble-shaped elastic gaskets, while, around the edges, where the construction meets the surrounding walls on the sides, the F3 uses winged gaskets to seal up all gaps. Its upper and lower profiles bear special insulative brushes which cover all other gaps effectively enough to keep the construction watertight and insulated as well as possible. 56

The F4 is an advanced heavy-duty glazed folding door system, designed for spaces with high aesthetic and practical demands. It consists of panes bearing double glassboards placed within an aluminum frame for additional robustness, durability and insulation in more demanding and challenging environments.It is therefore ideal where such attributes are desirable. Its verical profiles have been designed to fit together, bearing male and female sections, so that they perfectly couple with each other, covering all gaps very effectively. Elastic gaskets are also empoyed, completely sealing even the smallest gaps, for an entirely watertight and airtight result. On its horizontal profiles, watertightness is achieved by using special synthetic brushes, while, around the edges, where the construction meets the surrounding walls on the sides, the F4 employs an additional aluminum profile for even better insulation and a more aesthetically integrated touch. Apart from the floor latches this system uses, each pane is secured and locked with recessed locks found on the vertical profile about one meter high up from the floor, which is one of the most important features of this model. Any pane can also be turned into an opening/divertable door, functioning as an entrance, once a roof spring mechanism is fit in. Such entrances can be both single and double winged. The double glazing can also be modified to accomodate blinds in between the two glassboards, for a more discreet and integrated result. 61

Salinox’s F4 Thermo is a glazed folding door system specially designed to offer excellent thermal insulation to any enclosed space. Is is designed to cover openings with greater heights compared to the F6 system, while maintaining a discreet as possible look. Salinox’s FB series is a relatively different family of folding doors, especially designed for the enclosure of balconies and terraces, with their protection from challenging weather conditions in mind, while ensuring they will still be easy to use. The FB-cr glazed folding door system moves along a small, adjustable track rail driver which can be installed on any metal or wooden surface, or concrete, making it very easy and quick to install. A specially designed rainwater drainage system is also positioned onto the flooring. The FB-fr system is very similar to the FB-cr, the only difference being that the glassboards used are framed for better protection from external weather conditions. The FB-fr glazed folding door system moves along a small, adjustable track rail driver which can be installed on any metal or wooden surface, or concrete, making it very easy and quick to install. A specially designed rainwater drainage system is also positioned onto the flooring. Framed tempered 10mm glassboards are used, while the system’s panes move independently of one another, and can be stored on the opening’s side, without using additional track rail driver segments, entirely freeing up the opening. Its verical profiles have been designed to fit together, bearing male and female sections, so that they perfectly couple with each other, covering all gaps very effectively. Bubble-shaped elastic gaskets are also empoyed, completely sealing even the smallest gaps, for a watertight and airtight result. On its horizontal profiles, watertightness is achieved by using special synthetic brushes, while, around the edges, where the construction meets the surrounding walls on the sides, the FB-fr employs an additional aluminum profile for even better insulation and a more aesthetically integrated touch. 101

A glass railing mounting system which consists of a shallow, discrete aluminum profile, ideal for small balconies, but can be easily modified and installed in a diverse range of other applications. Perfect finishing, contemporary design, unobstructed view, while ensuring a sturdy and robust structure, compliant with all safety regulations. The SB7060 is crystal a mounting system without vertical support columns, employing a solid 70x60mm aluminum profile for the construction of glass railings fixed on the floor οr a parapet. It supports a vertical uniform 10-12mm laminated or tempered laminated glassboard. which can be either transparent or bear a handrail, but nevertheless without any holes and notches. The replacement of the glassboards is easy, and does not cause damage to neither the floor nor the system itself. The end crystal’s height can reach a maximum of 60cm, while with the addition of a heavy type aluminum or stainless steel handrail, it can reach 100cm in height. Crystal mounting system without vertical columns from robust static latticed aluminum profile 80x100mm. The most important advantage of the SB8010 compared to other crystal mounting systems is that installation is quicker without the need to align the glassboard or add decorative accessories for its finishing. It is installed as one piece on the final floor, capable of supporting uniform glazing 16mm thick, laminated or tempered laminated, without holes, up to 100cm height. The replacement of the crystals is an easy matter and avoids causing damage to either the floor or to the system itself. The oval sectioned “U” profile supports the glass boards along the entire length of the railing with the use of hard rubbers and also has the ability to regulate the crystal’s vertical positioning. The base is screwed directly to the flooring with special metal plugs in the opened holes. In this way the glassboard is installed without major technical difficulties. The SB 8010 base is coated with a protective film to prevent scratches during its installation and removed once the installation is finished. It is available in natural anodization and stainless steel immitation, while it can also be electrostatically colour-coated in a range of RAL colours. Structural molding chamber for concrete substrates made of heavy type 113x48mm aluminum profile made of EN AW 6060-T66 alloy - which can be anodized - for the implantation of crystal surfaces, tempered or laminated of up to 22mm in width, placed into the 110x28mm space of the resulting opening, which can fit in laminated or laminated tempered glass of up to 22mm in thickness. Stainless steel head Aisi 304 (or 316 - upon request) for frontal crystal mounting of 10mm to 30mm in thickness, using clamping plates. Each head bears three stainless steel plates, 200mm in length and two adjustable F40 regulators. Two out of the three plates work as a clamp, while the third operates as a distance fixing plate with respect to the frontal wall. The regulators bear an inner chamber, which can adjust the distance from the wall’s end by 29, by adding the corresponding component. Regulators bear notches, which tighten the crystal; crystals must be tempered and bear holes which must be precisely determined though a technical study and plan. Sliding glass doors are applied to large openings in a structure and provide door access from a room to the outdoors, fresh air, and copious natural light, but is also used indoors, providing easy access from one space to another while offering a different, contemporary look compared to the usual, conventional solution. A sliding glass door is usually considered a single unit consisting of two pane sections, one fixed and one moveable. Another design, a wall sized glass pocket door has one or more panels movable and sliding into wall pockets, completely disappearing for a ‘wide open’ room experience.

The driver consists of two parts to facilitate installation, and can be easily hidden into the ceiling, allowing only the sliding glass surface to show. Drivers can be painted in any RAL colour or wood imitation. The mechanism needs 10mm tempered or tempered laminated glass, which can come in a variety of colours and qualities.

SLdiva Salinox presents an innovative system for sliding glass doors, with exposed sliding tracks, characterized by simple lines and overall minimal design. The system consists of two reels, covered with square-shaped aluminum lids, which come in a range of RAL colors or can be naturally anodized. Glass doors are an excellent design solution for spaces that need to move beyond the usual decorative framework. They provide a futuristic, sharp style to any entrance opening, and allow plenty of light to pass through. The glass surface forming the entrance however, can be modified to create a variety of effects, either by employing frosted glass, which allows light to pass through but is not transparent, or by using thin coloured films in between the glass surfaces, rendering a coloured entrance door with a shiny, brilliant finish. The considerable weight of a glassboard though, needs the appropriate support by a correspondingly sturdy frame and hinges. Ideal when used as a separator between office areas, Salinox’s slim fram is an elegant, discreet aluminum profile which enables the creation of a glazed opening door when the wall’s width is too thick to mount a door frame or when it simply isn’t there. By directly mounting the profile onto the wall’s vertical surface, a sturdy frame is created on the wall’s vertical side (without rounding it), strong enough to support a glassboard, while with the addition of another set of laths it can create entrances onto glass surfaces.

Pivot doors employ a vertical axis on which a glassboard is fixed and supported, operating as a pivot combined with a floor-spring mechanism. Pivot doors usually support doors of large dimension - greater than 120cm. Salinox uses a Ø30 tube and the F40 mounts for the glazing’s support, however the construction can be modified to fit more specific tastes and adapted to the project’s needs. The tube serves is fixed on the ceiling by using an anchored rosette, while for a smoother, safer motion, as well as for additional choices, such as a door stop at specified angles, the appropriate floor -spring mechanism is installed, depening on the door’s size, weight and the user’s preferences.

For smaller openings in smaller spaces, and in bathrooms that need to make maximal use of the available opening, Salinox has designed a cabin which can take advantage of the 2/3 of the total width for a comforable way into the shower. The cabin uses two sliding glassboards and one fixed one, with the sliding ones aligning next to the fixed one when the cabin is opened. The peripheral aluminum profile is available in natural anodization, stainless steel immitation, or is electrostatically painted in a variety of colours and textures. The glassboards used are tempered 8 to 10mm thick, while installation is easy and quick, even in older, used, pre-existing spaces. A smart way to refurbish small spaces without too much effort. 175

glazed canopies Glass shelters are the best way to provide both protection and a touch of discreet dynamic design for exposed spaces - places where people may occasionally loiter, or where cars are parked and need to be protected from the whether etc. The transparent, glossy nature of glass, as well as its sturdy, thin profile, does not overload the aesthetic aspect of the space where a glass shelter is installed. Our design team can only refer to a few basic possibilities, namely shelters with and without struts, but the company in general has a long tradition of constructing shelters, combining both glass and steel into an impressive whole.

Three and four wing revolving doors RD3 and RD4 Comfort, safety and economy Besam’s 3- and 4-wing compact revolving doors RD3/RD4 help to maintain a comfortable indoor climate and at the same time save energy costs. The RD3/RD4 combines the advantages of a revolving door for the internal environment with the safety and security of an automatic door, at a cost more typically associated with manual revolving doors. The larger diameters in the RD3/RD4 range are suitable for people carrying luggage, for example, at a hotel entrance. The smaller diameters provide an entrance door suitable for moderate pedestrian traffic. The RD3/RD4 is available in various sizes with flexible internal height and fascia height to match any building. All of our revolving door systems are made from Besam-designed aluminium profiles which can be anodized, powder-coated or stainless steel-clad. The drive mechanism is fitted on a frame above the laminated ceiling. The drive shaft bearing is fixed to the finished floor. Brushes seal the door tightly. The doors are designed to be placed and fixed directly onto the finished floor surface. No special foundations are required. For unfinished floors, a ground ring is available as an option.
