The event reaches its landmark quarter century year t h i s s pr i n g a s i t u nfo l d s fr o m M ar c h 7 through 10. Making it happen is the organizer, TAITRA (The Taiwan External Trade Development Council) which is going all out to make this one show that will long be remembered.

TAIPEI CYCLE d&i awards In order to consolidate TAIPEI CYCLE’s global platform for products (which combines state-ofthe-art tech with outstanding design), TAITRA is launching its first ever “ TAIPEI CYCLE d&i awards 2012”. This endeavor is jointly organized with TAIPEI CYCLE’s long-time partner TBEA (Taiwan Bicycle Exporters’ Association), and sets no limit on the number of entries per contestant - but expects each entry to reflect a strong level of innovation and design. T h e n ew TA I P E I CYC LE d &i awa r d s , executed by iF International Forum Design G m b H , invites the entire global industr y to e n t e r t h e i r m o s t c o m p e t i t i ve p r o d u c t s . I t ’s open to manufacturers, designers, distributors, importers and retailers from across the global bicycle industry. Entries can be registered in four categories: Com plete Bicycles, Bicycle Components, Clothing and Equipment for Cyclists and Accessories. Entries that have been on the market for less than two years or those scheduled to go into mass production d u r i n g t h e c u r r e n t ye a r a r e eligible to participate in the first edition“ TAIPEI CYCLE d&i awards 2012”.

u p o n i t s 2 011 r e c o r d s t h a t fielded 948 exhibitors to use 3,0 60 booths. However, supply was about 1,000 booths short causing more than 20 0 d omesti c and over seas exhibitors to be lef t waiting. To squeeze out more space the coming TAIPEI CYCLE will expand its exhibit area to TWTC Hall 1, Area H which is adjacent to TAIPEI-101. Area H adds new faces and brands to the 2012 TAIPEI CYCLE product line-up to make the whole supply chain even more complete!

The Premiere SPOMODE Highlights Taiwan Functional Fabrics & Sports Fashion Sports wear and bicycle accessories are now hot thanks to the strengths coming with Taiwan functional fabrics. To highlight bicycle accessories, TAIPEI CYCLE for the first time offers a dedicated hub for sports wear and accessories which is still close to all the bicycle components. “SPOMODE” (Taipei International Spor ts Textile and Accessor y Expo) will complete this endeavor, letting it embrace every spoke of the industry from functional elements (lighter, faster, stronger). The new SPOMODE show, which will located at TWTC Hall 1 Area H, showcases cyclewear fashion to make TAIPEI CYCLE an even more comprehensive event. At the same time, the 3 9 t h TaiSPO (Asia’s 2 n d largest sporting goods show) will locate at TWTC Hall 1, to showcase Asia’s all-embracing 4-1 Sports Expo: TAIPEI CYCLE, SPOMODE, TaiSPO and DiWaS.

Tour de Taiwan 2012: Upgraded to 2.1 Class TAIPEI CYCLE is the world’s only trade show that combines a “trade show” with a “bicycle race.” Since 2005, “Tour de Taiwan” has been held in conjunction wit h TAIPEI CYCLE. The c o ming 2012 “ Tour d e Taiwan” will be even more exciting since it has even been upgraded to the race 2.1 class, which allows participation of world first-class racers such as those in “Tour de France.”

4 TAIPEI CYCLE SHOW PREVIEW

-- Linking the BEST for a Quarter of a Century Some 25 years ago, when TaiSPO (Taipei Int’l Sporting Goods Show) was getting stronger and heading into its 14th year, the show organizer, TAITRA (Taiwan External Trade Development Council ), noticed a sprout of budding opportunity. And, in that year (1988), TAITRA decided to spin off the bicycle section and have it go solo as a new show called TAIPEI CYCLE. From that moment they never looked back! TAIPEI CYCLE soared with the industry. In a decade, TAIPEI CYCLE 1997 was hosting 533 exhibitors to use 1,539 booths. During those years this event enhanced the “bicycle” concept, letting it leave behind its former “toy image” to become an icon for better, healthier and greener living. And in 1992 it soared further ahead with the start of the Taiwan Bicycle Exporters’ Association that strived to globally promote MIT* bicycles. By the time the 20th TAIPEI CYCLE arrived in 2007, it was Asia’s top cycle show. And behind its theme banner of “Value Innovation, Trend Leader” were 694 firms using 2,299 booths. In that year visitors soared 36% to 45,000, and overseas buyers jumped 11% to 3,900. The coming TAIPEI CYCLE 2012 builds upon the 2011 event that welcomed elite European masters who were among the record-high 948 exhibitors from 36 countries using 3,060 booths This spring, TAIPEI CYCLE commemorates a quarter-century of setting the pace in tech and trends by coming in mega-size format where it comes the full circle to join up TaiSPO (in its 39th year) and two fresh new shows “SPOMODE” (Taipei Int’l Sports Textile & Accessory Expo) and “DiWaS” (Taiwan Int’l Diving & Water Sports Show) to beckon Asia’s BIGGEST 4-in-1 sports expo. This spring join Team TAIPEI CYCLE to come out ahead. And don’t forget, “Think Bicycle, Think Taiwan”. *MIT: Made-in-Taiwan

TAIPEI CYCLE 2012 Pre-show Press Conference and Media Tour

Limited Edition Cycling Bag for 2012 TAIPEI CYCLE Show

Press Conference and Cycling Held in Taichung on November 15, Followed by Plant Tours to Giant, Kenda, and Others on 16th, 17th Next year, the Taipei International Cycle Show (TAIPEI CYCLE) will be held for the 25th time. The show, celebrating an established history going back a quarter-century, will be taking place in the NANGANG Exhibition Hall in Taipei during a four-day period starting on March 7, 2012, and will again be organized by the Taiwan External Trade Development Council (TAITRA). This year as well, TAITRA invited bicycle-related media from overseas to the TAIPEI CYCLE 2012 Press Conference & Media Tour, an event held from November 15-17, 2011 to publicize the Taipei International Cycle Show 2012. This year's media tour was the sixth time that the event has been held. The list

of invitees included 18 media from 15 countries; Cycle Press and Cyclebusiness from Japan, Bicycle Retailer and Industry News from the U.S., Bike Trade Canada and Canadian Cyclist from Canada, SAZ Bike from Germany, Bike Europe from the Netherlands, BIKE from Spain, Ciclismo from Italy, Cycleinfo and Ride Business from Switzerland, Velo Tout Terrain from France, KB Media-bike Show Daily from Ireland, Magazyn Rowerowy from Poland, Bicycle Life from Korea, Togoparts from Singapore, Australian Mountain Bike from Australia, and Bike Action from Brazil. They expressed great interest in the coming Taipei show.

1,058 Companies, Including 272 from Overseas, Planning to Exhibit at 2012 Taipei Show TAITRA Executive Vice President Walter Yeh first gave an opening remark in which he said that the TAIPEI CYCLE Show, being held for the 25th time next year, now ranks among the top three cycle shows worldwide, side-by-side with the Eurobike show in Germany and the Interbike show in the U.S. He also said that a total of 1,058 companies, 272 from overseas and 786 from Taiwan, are planning to exhibit at the 2012 Taipei show, which is an increase of 110 companies compared to the previous show, and that a total of 3,260 booths have been reserved, which is an increase of 200. Mr. Yeh added that because bicycling is environmentally friendly and contributes to promoting health and fitness, the sport is enjoying a global boom, and the outlook is bright for the bicycle industry. He emphasized that a variety of events are planned for the 2012 Taipei show, and expressed his hopes that the show would be well-publicized worldwide Following his address, Giant CEO Tony Lo, who is also chairman of the Taiwan Bicycle Exporters Association (TBEA), spoke about trends in the bicycle industry in Taiwan. He remarked, “Taiwan’s 14 TAIPEI CYCLE SHOW PREVIEW

exports of both assembled bicycles and parts grew in 2010, but because of factors such as inclement weather across Europe, assembled bike exports were down 14.0%, to 3.25 million bikes, in the first three quarters of 2011, from January through September. On a monetary basis, however, assembled bike exports rose 13.5%, to US$ 1.196 billion.”Following the conference, the tour members moved to an area of the hotel reserved for new product displays, where they could preview new products staring at the coming 2012 TAIPEI CYCLE Show. These included prominent lineup of companies like H & J Kreima, Taya Chain, J. D. Components, Tien Hsin, Marwi, Chia Cherne, Tektro, Kinesis, Tern Bicycle and Dirotech. They will also try out the bike path in Taichung’s Dongfong Bikeway. The journalists will be able to experience Taiwan’s high-quality bicycles and picturesque countryside and gain an appreciation of how government, industry and local administrations have come together to promote cycling and environmental protection. On the next day, November 16, media members visited the plant of leading

tire maker Kenda, located in Changhwa County, as well as that of Joy, a major hub manufacturer located in Taichung City, and Giant, Taiwan's largest manufacturer of assembled bikes, located in Taichung County. At the Kenda plant, President Ying Ming Yang briefed the press after their plant tour, and welcomed media members, as well as holding a question-and-answer session. At Joy, attendees toured a plant producing batteries for electric bikes, and had an opportunity to test-ride the bikes. At Giant, the tour focused primarily on a carbon frame production plant. That was followed by a factory tour of T-One, a plant that produces bottle cages, grip carriers and other items, in Taichung City on the 17th, as well as a visit to DKcity, also in Taichung City, where electric bikes are produced. Participants also toured Pacific Cycles, a firm renowned for its production of folding bikes, in Taoyuan County. After testriding electric bikes at DKcity, media members attended a lecture by President George Lin at Pacific Cycles, and were then given an opportunity to test-ride folding bikes and other products. Most of the tour members then returned to hotels in Taipei City.

Tour de Taiwan 2012

TAITRA CTCA TAIPEI CYCLE SHOW PREVIEW 17

“… the best teams ever in the history of Taiwanese cycling.”

Tour de Taiwan 2012 Earns UCI Class 2.1 Event Featuring Tour de France Stars Tour de Taiwan 2012, has achieved its highest ranking, rated as a Class 2.1 Event by Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI). It will see the country’s national team and three UCI-registered professional teams race against top-notch Tour de France cyclists. The Tour de Taiwan 2012 is a stage race in the UCI Asia Tour and unfolds over seven days between March 10 and March 16. Hailing from five continents, the 20 distinguished teams set to compete in Taiwan’s best international cycling event include Saxo Bank and Europcar—both appearing in the Tour de France—and three Professional Continental Teams participating in the Giro d'Italia and Vuelta a España. The race features the best teams ever in the history

of Taiwanese cycling. To create a world-class sporting event for Taiwan, commonly known as “the empire on bicycles,” the Ministry of Economic Affairs (MOEA) made its UCI upgrade attempt and, in a revolutionary move, arranged for the daily highlights of the Tour de Taiwan 2012 to be broadcast live on ESPN in 82 countries. With people around the world tracking the Tour in real time, Taiwan will once again draw global attention with this high-profile race. The organizer of Tour de Taiwan will once again partner with TAITRA (Taiwan External Trade Development Council) to launch Taipei International Cycle Show (TAIPEI CYCLE)—the world’s second largest bicycle show—from March 6-10,

It begins with a 60-km, round-city race in Taipei.

Stage 5 (March 14)

Then the cyclists cover the 150-km span from Banqiao in New Taipei City tracing the northern coastline and the Malian River to Fishermen’s Wharf in Danshui.

Stage 6

They peddle the 150-kilometers from the Taoyuan County Government Center to the Cihu Culture Resort of the Chiangs.

Stage 7

(March 15)

(March 16)

2012 at TWTC NANGANG Exhibition Hall. Together with an action-packed cycling race, this luxury bike exhibition may substantially enhance the global prominence of the Taiwanese bicycle industry, bolster participation in Taiwanbased trade shows, contribute to investment and product orders for local companies, and eventually reinforce the country’s reputation as a bicycle empire. The route for the Tour de Taiwan 2012, jointly devised by Chinese Taipei Cycling Association (CTCA) and local governments, is the most challenging ever in the country due to the race’s unprecedented UCI Class 2.1 status. The Tour de Taiwan 2012 covers the following:

They cover 147 kilometers between Baguashan, zip along the Changbin Industrial Park to the Tianwei Highway Garden. It comes with the 150-km leg from the Tainan City Government Center that stretches through Baihe to Guanziling. It comes with the 140-km race from the Love River through Fo Guang Shan to Renai Park.

Giant Manufacturing Defy Advanced SL Giant Endurance Road Performance Bikes

Giant was founded in 1972 with a mission: to create better bikes and improve the cycling experience. From the very start, innovation and manufacturing expertise set this company apart. Over the last four decades, Giant has grown well beyond its manufacturing roots to become the world's leading brand of quality bicycles and gear. With more than 12,000 retail partners worldwide, the company aims to inspire adventure in all riders, from casual to competitive. Giant bikes win world championships. They win design awards, too. But most importantly, they win the hearts of riders who choose to make cycling a part of their lives. Giant has updated its range of high-performance endurance road bikes, adding new technologies and overall system engineering improvements to the 2012 Defy men’s series of road bikes. Defy is aimed at male road riders who crave the lightweight, stiff, efficient power transfer of a competitive road bike but with endurance-oriented positioning and geometry for endurance-riding performance. The top-of-the-line Defy Advanced SL was developed in partnership with the Rabobank Cycling Team. Handcrafted with the same composite materials and manufacturing techniques as the team’s primary race bike, the TCR Advanced SL, it was developed to offer an alternative-geometry option for long, grueling Classicsstyle races. Like the TCR Advanced SL, the Defy Advanced SL benefits from new manufacturing techniques. It’s constructed using Continuous Fiber Technology, a process that allows the front triangle to be formed with fewer sections of composite material and therefore reduces weight. And with fewer junctions, the frame is also stronger. Also new for 2012 is the use of Carbon Nanotube Technology. Giant developed a new custom-blended resin that uses a microscopic polymer to strengthen Defy Advanced SL framesets. The new Defy model incorporate OverDrive 2 technology, a new oversize steerer tube design that improves steering stiffness up to 30 percent. OverDrive 2 results in a better handling bike with virtually no weight penalty. And all 2012 Defy model feature

Giant’s proven frame technologies including MegaDrive, a massive rectangular-shaped downtube and oversize toptube for superior stiffness and handling, and PowerCore, an oversize, press fit bottom bracket area that helps promote optimal pedaling efficiency. Beyond the specific advancements in frameset technologies, Defy was created using Giant’s Beyond Integration design philosophy. This represents Giant’s holistic approach to accomplishing ambitious performance goals. In short, Giant engineers abandoned the traditional understanding of integration, in which components were developed to fit pre-existing frame standards, and created systematic solutions such as OverDrive 2, WheelSystems, Integrated Seatposts and Giant’s new RideSense wireless data transmitter. The company’s long-awaited new plant in Kunshan went into operation in July 2011 and has started to ship products, and production is finally on track and running smoothly. July also saw the time-honored Giant Cup being held in Taichung, timed to coincide with the unveiling and tours of Giant’s newly completed flagship store building.

Rikulau High Performance Road Bike and Titanium Frame with Integrated Seatpost Rikulau’s 931 road bike, built with the newest stainless steel tubing from Reynolds, is the newest addition to the Rikulau product line. It is a product that balances stiffness, ductility, and weight. The medium size road frame weighs only 1470 grams, an amazing number for a steel frame. Rikulau’s 931 road bike provides performance as well as comfort. It can be used for both racing and on long distance travelling. As a matter of fact, more than five Rikulau 931 road bikes survived the challenge in the 17th Paris-Brest-Paris (July 2011).

Current Rikulau frame finishes such as Phoenix, Falcon, Rikulau, May Snow, Xochitl can all be applied on 931 frame in sand blasting or painting, or both. Rikulau’s ISP version titanium frame is based on the Master series frame. Therefore, Master-ISP inherits all the characters of the Master series frame while adding the elegance of ISP. The powerful road fighter frame uses double butted 3Al-2.5V titanium tubes. The tubes are stress released by heat treatment before welding into a frame. Large size differential head tube combined with 1.5” tapered fork increased the maneuvering stability under high speed cornering and the stiffness while pulling the bike. Besides, bigger down tube and chain stay also improved overall frame stiffness.

Exhibitor Profiles and Their New Products Since its introduction to the market for Season 2008, Merida‘s high-end racing full suspension NINETY-SIX has been winning laurels: the bike press raved about this thoroughbred racing machine characterized by no-compromise prop uls io n, m i n i m u m w e i g h t and so far unmatched stiffness data. Already its prototype catapulted MULTIVAN MERIDA pro rider Ralph Naef to Vice World Championship in 2007. And until Season 2011, MULTIVAN MERIDA BIKING TEAM rode the NINETY-SIX always into the top ranks. Therefore this excellent bike’s designated successor had to accept a considerable inheritance. With the NINETY-NINE, Merida has created a characteristic racing machine that uses any open development potential of its precursor to the full extent. It was hardly possible to outclass the weight and stiffness data of NINETY-SIX – but the successor t o t h e t h ro n e s t a n d s f o r a n absolutely new level of handling and suspension performance. Main frame, seat and chain stays as well as the rocker link for suspension strut linkage consist completely of an intelligent mix between High Modulus (HM),

The reinforcing “Double Chamber” technology in top and down tube enhances bending and torsional stiffness once again. Together with the current 165 mm suspension strut that is shorter in comparison to the previous version, the NINETY-NINE frame achieves an outstanding weight of ultra-light 1.85 kg (incl. shock) – in spite of the mighty BB30 bottom bracket or the sensitively reacting and durable mounting of the complete rear stay in sealed groove ball bearings. “State-ofthe-art” is also the tapered steerer (increasing from 1 1/8 to 1.5”) and the post-mount standard for direct mounting of the rear disc brake. In addition, the NINETYNINE offers 100 mm front and rear suspension travel. Together with the racing-orientated kinematics and a chassis that is completely lockable from the cockpit, this design means nothing less than Merida‘s next attack towards the World Cup’s top ranks.

The Reacto

Reacto, Aero Racer with Outstanding Comfort After the REACTO’s introduction at Eurobike, Tour magazine had “only positive reactions”. Besides design perfection down to the very last detail and the low frame weight of 1048g, Juergen Falke’s ( M E R I D A’s H e a d o f D e s i g n ) latest success had compelling classic virtues: In spite of the aero design, the REACTO achieved initial stiffness data otherwise only known from the best traditional racing machines – and thus outclassed its competitors clearly from the outset. The leading bike journal RoadBike attested to the M E R I D A R E A C T O ' s “ p re c i s e handling in every situation” ( R o a d B i k e 3 / 1 1 ) . O b v i o u s l y, Merida‘s R&D experts did their homework very well when they used the multi-award-winning SCULTURA EVO as a role model for the derivation of a racing machine with modern semi-aero design. Thanks to the mighty BB30 bottom bracket with its stiffness of 125 N/mm and a steerer stiffness of 84 N/mm at the tapered head tube (RoadBike 3/11), the REACTO has proven right from the start that its “Structure Element Carbon” frame consisting of High Modulus (HM) fibres is well beyond all doubt. The “Double Chamber” technology in the down tube enhances the carbon construction’s torsional stiffness

once again via a transversely integrated rib – actively supported by a full-carbon fork with “tapered steerer”. Thus this bike is designed for pure propulsion and maximum control. The second REACTO model year delights with perfect i n t e g r a t i o n o f e l e c t ro n i c D i 2 shifting systems – and with the radical approach of providing contemporary comfort to aero racers that are, otherwise, perceived as ver y rigid: The magic word “S-Flex Comfor t” represents a completely revised seatpost which adapts the aero frame design like its precursor while still being fully adjustable. Due to its exceptional window c o n s t r u c t i o n w i t h r e a r- s i d e elastomer and integrated carbon compound spring, the patentpending “S-Flex” achieves comfort data offered so far only by the best slim 27.2mm seatposts – at a sensational net weight of 201g and without any restrictions to the rider’s own weight. Compared with the 2011 version, the new “S-Flex” post works independently from saddle pullout. In every adjustment position, it hence offers comfort characteristics that may turn the REACTO into the probably most complete aero racing machine for the 2012 season.

New Dahon product impresses with technology, comfort and functionality Dahon’s 2012 range of folding bikes is once again the world’s broadest, loaded with technological twists and turns. CEO and founder Dr. David Hon emphasizes that his primary goal with Dahon has always been to create transport that appeals as a convenient alternative to burning fossil-fuels, and so he focuses on superior ride quality and durability first. For him, the folding feature he builds into his bikes takes the convenience quotient to the next level. For all of the unique, proprietary technology Dahon introduces year after year, what really sets them apart is their wide variety of 34 global models. Each model is designed with unique consumers’ needs in mind, tailoring qualities such as folding technology, functionality, comfort, folded size, and color and graphics to the individual rider. Offering such a wide selection allows virtually any consumer to choose the perfect folder to complement and express their own unique personality. Jifo

The fastest folding bicycle on the market Among the new highlights of the 2012 range of Dahon bicycles is the Jifo, currently the fastest bike to fold and unfold on the market. More than 25 years after Dr. Hon first introduced a folding bicycle frame with a vertical hinge, Dahon now unveils a new platform featuring a revolutionary longitudinal hinge. Designed to significantly cut folding time to just seven seconds, the Jifo sets new standards in terms of foldability. Equipped with an ergonomic knob on the top tube that is lifted and given a half turn in order to release the overall folding mechanism, it allows the front and rear wheel to move toward each other as the bike is lifted. The speed of folding, its convenience, light weight and ultra-compact size all make the Jifo a very compelling solution for that “last mile” of commuting. Another “first” among folding bikes is the Dahon Mu 360, the first production folding bike to feature a NuVinci continuously-variable transmission. This intuitive folder was created to make commuting as comfortable and carefree as possible. The bike’s high-end accessories including a top-quality saddle, ergonomic grips and street shoe-friendly pedals pamper the rider, while the Nuvinci gear changer is as intuitive to use as the volume knob on a radio. Last but not least, Dahon also has something in store for those cyclists looking to further minimize their need for a storage space.

Mu 360

Flat Pack technology, designed to drastically reduce footprint, allows consumers to quickly and safely turn their handlebars and stem down and to the side. Equipped with the new De-Ped, which allows riders to quickly, easily and safely remove and reinstall pedals using an ingenious scissoring quick release mechanism, it makes for a very slim frame ready to be stored behind apartment doors or couches. Flat Pack Technology is applicable to both folding and traditional bikes and will be available with a number of models from Dahon’s 2012 range.

Elebike Promotion of Two New Advanced Rim Motors 2012 marks the 25 th year of Elebike’s long history of pioneering electric motors for electric vehicles, including bicycles, motorcycles, scooters, trolleys, wheelchairs, and electric medical beds. Since 1991, Elebike’s revolutionary rim motors (or hub motors) have been a significant improvement over traditional motors, in both performance and flexibility. Now, Elebike focuses on providing the best rim motor kit for various vehicles. The kit includes a brushed or brushless rim motor, an advanced controller, and a smart charger. The two 2012 rim motor models feature, respectively, built-in torque sensors and brakes. Model TQ140, comes with built-in torque and speed sensors. By integrating two commonly used components into the motor itself, users don’t have to install the torque monitor or the speed sensor onto the B.B parts. It is also very easy to attach a 3-speed to 8-speed Derailleur. This new PAS (Pedal Assistance System) design has fewer external components, which enhances style and functionality over other designs. Additionally, this new simplified design easily complies with vehicle regulations in most countries. Meanwhile, model SA175B comes with built-in electromagnetic brakes and release brakes. One special benefit of the SA175B is its adaptability and practicality. Other popular electric vehicles in the market easily weigh over 70 kg (154 lb.), making them impractical to transport. SA175B can be installed as either the 5th wheel of a wheelchair, or as a replacement for one of the two main wheels of a wheelchair. This results in quick and easy installation, enabling the wheelchair to fold easily.

Ming Cycle STRiDA with New 3 Speed Gears Established in 1989, Ming Cycle has grown steadily as an OEM supplier to brands including GT, Mongoose and Schwinn. The company purchased the STRiDA a brand in 2007 and started to focus on promoting high value-added bikes under the brand. At present Ming Cycle exports to 30 countries of the world, with EUbound shipment (SKD) accounting for 95% of total exports. Ming Cycle’s principle has traditionally been “a pursuit of quality rather than quantity”, and now the company is planning to shift from relying on OEM (90% of total at present) by steadily promoting R&D and to expand sales of own brand products. Looking at the company’s new STRiDA bike, the STRiDA is now with new 3 speed gears while keeping the original simple and clean design. The bike has no shifters and derailleur cables, all in B.B parts. The gear can be changed by 60° backward pedaling, low speed for climbing hill, middle speed for flat road and high speed for fast riding.

Tern

No. M1019a To Debut Full Lineup at 2012 Taipei Show Urban transport specialist to showcase award-winning products and accessories Booth

Urban transport specialist Tern, will be showcasing its full line of folding bicycles and accessories to the general public at the 2012 Taipei Cycle Show at booth M1019a and the Test Ride Area of the show. In addition to the company’s 22 bicycle models, which range in price from US$450 to US$3,300, Tern will also be displaying its full line of accessories, including innovative luggage and lighting options.

The Bikes Tern’s product line features five distinct frame platforms, each with particular characteristics tailored to the needs of today’s urban cyclist. Product line highlights include:

Eclipse S11i

The Eclipse S11i, winner of an iF Design Award at Eurobike 2011, combines the best in available technology to realize Tern’s vision of the ultimate in today’s two-wheeled, urban transport. An Alfine 11 rear hub is paired with the BioLogic Joule HG dynamo front hub, which can be turned on for power, or turned off to completely eliminate the dreaded “dynamo drag”. The Andros adjustable stem delivers a custom fit for riders of all sizes. And although the Eclipse runs on full-size 24" wheels, it still folds to the same footprint as many other small-wheeled folders.

“Urban cycling is about getting to places and getting stuff done,” stated Joshua Hon, Tern vice president. "It’s about riding to work, doing your grocery shopping, and maybe getting to the bar on a Friday night. So urban cyclists care more about a comfortable riding position, being safe and visible at night, the ability to carry a few bags of groceries, and day in, day out reliability. These are the requirements that we’ve focused on.”

Verge X10 The Verge X10 is the bike for city riders looking for something really light, really portable and features top-quality components. By pairing a single front chainring with an 11-36T cassette, the Verge X10 has a better chain line, faster shifts, lower weight, and eliminates overlapping gears. Ultra-light Kinetix Pro wheels make you feel like you’re flying through the streets.

Castro Duo The Castro Duo is designed for one simple purpose, to get you and your stuff from where you are to where you’re going. It has only two speeds — one for flats and one for hills. Automatic shifting with the SRAM Automatix two-speed hub and a coaster brake means there are no messy cables. The integrated rack offers extra stable load carrying with clean styling. Tern bicycles are in production and are now shipping to distributors worldwide.

Link Uno With only a single speed and a coaster brake, the Link Uno is perfect, minimalist transport for flat cities. The Link Uno and other Link-series bikes can also be equipped with the optional Trolley Rack, a patented rack design that allows the folded bike to be easily rolled through busy train and bus stations. This is achieved with wheels that are integrated into the rack, and by cleverly utilizing the seatpost and seat of the bike as the handle to pull the bike along.

1) Stationary cable routing: KS’s innovative design eliminates the cable growth common with other dropper post designs. This stops cables from getting snagged on frame linkage, the rider’s foot, or other moving components, and in addition presents a far cleaner look. 2) Clock-able cable stop: This unique feature allows the user to set the cable inlet anywhere in a 360 degree range, allowing the cable to be routed in an unlimited number of ways. This enables clean, direct routing. 3) Micro adjust seat clamp: This feature allows for the widest range of saddle adjustment, and provides a solid “set it and forget it” solution for the saddle adjustment. 4) Reduction in overall weight: Innovative engineering minimizes redundant material use, yielding a 100 gram overall weight reduction. Products Now Made Under Innovative OSC Concept Founded in 1980, Kalloy is a leading manufacturer of high quality aluminum components. In addition to OE bicycle parts, Kalloy makes leisure and sporting goods to the same unrelenting professional standards. Kalloy selects high grade materials including carbon fibers and aluminum and constantly upgrade its manufacturing and production skills. The company’s products are now being made under an innovative concept called “OSC” (Optical Stiffness Construction). According to CEN standards, stem and handlebar should be installed and tested together. In the regular design manufacturers raise the thickness of bar and stem to increase strength; as a result, the bar and stem become heavier. However, OSC (Optical Stiffness Construction) is an innovative concept to evenly distribute stress from bar to stem. It brings lighter weight without reducing rigidity. There are three major procedures to create OSC: “Winglet Faceplate”, “Mesh Fit” and “Variant Thickness”. According to lab experiments and actual

K0616

riding experience, Kalloy has discovered that a regular faceplace creates enormous bending stress around connection edge. In some cases, it damages high performance lightweight handlebars. In terms of transfer bending stress from handlebar to stem, Kalloy’s innovation team has designed the “Winglet Faceplate” to easily distribute the stress from bar to stem. Six degree tighten angle creates “Mesh Fit” around the bar more friction force was generated than the conventional clamping lock. Minimum tighten torque creates maximum engagement force. This system provides safety not only by distributing stress but also by preventing over-tightening. To avoid incorrect installation, the “Mesh Fit” has added a fool-proof design. It helps users to easily recognize the correct installing direction to the faceplate. The Kalloy innovation team uses a computer simulation analysis program, actual testing and precise CNC machining to achieve “variant thickness”. Variant Thickness efficiently sustains the stress from the clamping area and distributes it.

Ultegra 6770 Series World tour proven digital technology The Ultegra 6770 series of electronic road components from Shimano was created to realize more stress-free riding. The technology of Ultegra 6770 Di2 inherits the Di2 concept together with the SEIS (Shimano Electronic Intelligence System) used in the Dura-Ace 7970 series. The advantage of Di2 is clear to anyone who tries it: changing gears becomes easier, effortless and faster by simply touching the shift buttons. Control is at your fingertips. Additional benefits include an automatic trimming front derailleur, unmatched precision plus super easy installation and adjustment. Shimano's Ultegra 6770 series with Di2 technology consists of Dual Control Levers, electronically operated front and rear derailleurs, a battery and electric cables. For remaining components, such as Hollowtech II crankset, brake calipers, cassette sprockets and chain, you can rely on the products of the mechanical Shimano Ultegra 6700 component group. The electric cables include only 2 core wires (Dura-Ace E Di2 has four) and the connectors are smaller too with a diameter of 5.1mm (-3.7mm compared with Dura-Ace Di2). Easy plug and play system to connect the cables, which will be available in different lengths to accommodate most frame dimensions. Connection with PC is possible for diagnosis and changing the shifting order. The SEIS (Shimano Electronic Intelligence System) is based on the Shimano Index System (SIS) that has proved its superior gear changing characteristics over the years. The big difference is that in this case, the shifting action is provided for by electronics instead of mechanics. Below are the major benefits of the Ultegra 6770 series.
