by Dakota Diaz Horseshoe Bay Resort, the award-winning lakefront destination in the Central Texas Hill Country, is now offering direct charter service to and from its private jet center to packaged groups as large as 30. With exclusive ground shuttle service to the resort and its highly-acclaimed Robert Trent Jones, Sr. and Jack Nicklaus golf courses, escaping to magnificent Lake LBJ’s most beloved destination has never been easier.

by Shane Sharp North and South Carolina are home to nearly 1,000 golf courses, including the largest golf resort in North America, Pinehurst Resort. Many of the states’ layouts bear the names of renowned designers like Tom Fazio, Jack Nicklaus, Pete Dye, Robert Trent Jones and Gil Hanse.

by Dave McKibben Fishing poles still outnumber golf bags in the baggage claim terminal at Loreto’s tiny airport on Baja Sur’s east coast, where the balmy, blue-green Sea of Cortez waters are loaded with snapper, grouper, dorado, marlin, sailfish, seabass and yellowtail tuna. But in the past year, more and more golfers—some of them quite famous-have begun arriving in this small village of 13,000 people that was founded in 1697 by Jesuit missionaries.

Treat Yourself to a Golf Trip in England’s Lake District

The extensive grounds of Linthwaite House

L

ake District, England - With the reopening of Linthwaite House (https://leeucollection.com/UK) in the Lake District on 31st July, it’s time to treat yourself to a golf trip in one of England’s most popular holiday destinations that promises plenty of space and fresh air in the great outdoors. Part of the Leeu Collection, the stunning hotel in Cumbria, England has teamed up with the nearby Windermere Golf Club to offer a ‘Golfing in the Lakes’ package that combines a two-night stay at the luxury property with 18 holes of golf for two at one of Cumbria’s most delightful and scenic golf courses, and a three-course set dinner at Michelin-starred Simon Rogan’s newest restaurant Henrock. Whilst England’s largest National Park is best known for its spectacular walks around its numerous lakes and up mountains like Scafell Pike, it is also home to almost 40 golf courses making it the ideal destination to combine hiking with a round of golf or two, with both activities giving visitors the opportunity to soak up wonderful views of the surrounding landscape. Less than a mile from Linthwaite House, the course at Windermere Golf Club offers panoramic views over Lake Windermere and across to the distant fells. Founded back in 1891, the layout was designed by George Lowe who – at the time – was the professional at Royal Lytham & St Annes (which has hosted 11 Open Championships), a course he also created. In true moorland style, each hole at Windermere follows the gently rolling and rugged character of the local terrain to create a layout that is both charming and demanding. Though relatively short at 5,143 yards, this par 67 course presents golfers with a quite a challenge thanks to an array of blind tee shots, several elevation changes and numerous natural hazards such as rocky outcrops, abundant bracken and copses of trees that run alongside some of the fairways.

8 Golf Vacations • August 2020

After the rigours of golf, Linthwaite House provides a tranquil retreat and all the comforts of a five star hotel. The Conservatory, Bar and Terrace are the perfect place for a light meal or early evening drink, while admiring the breath-taking views over Windermere towards Coniston. Breakfast and dinner are served in Henrock which showcases natural, seasonal ingredients in a relaxed and elegant setting. That hotel stands in 14 acres of landscaped private gardens, which are dotted with arresting sculptures and offer a range of outdoor pursuits such as boating and fishing on the tarn (a small lake), boules, croquet and giant chess. At the end of the day, guests retire to one of the 36 luxurious, individually-designed bedrooms for a great night’s sleep in this peaceful bolthole. Testifying to the quality of the hotel and its golf offer, Linthwaite House has been nominated in several of this year’s Luxury Lifestyle Magazine Readers’ Travel Awards including the Best Hotel for Golf category (winners will be announced in the Autumn). Keen golfers may wish to try several of the other golf courses in the area, such as the Harry Colt parkland course at Ulverston just 15 miles away and the highly-regarded Silloth on Solway golf course, rated by Top 100 Golf Courses as the one number course in Cumbria, that is located on the coast about a 90-minute drive from Linthwaite House. The ‘Golfing in the Lakes’ package includes two nights’ B&B accommodation, a three-course set meal in Henrock on one night and a round of golf for two at Windermere Golf Club Rates start from £615 for two people sharing a double room; book online at https://leeucollection.com/UK or email reservations@ linthwaitehouse.com or call +44 (0) 15394 88600, quoting “Leeu Golf”.

• • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • CHIPSHOTS Golf in the Wide, Open Spaces of Switzerland’s Engadine Valley Switzerland – With overseas golf trips back on the agenda, now is the ideal time to visit the wide open spaces and crystal clear air of Switzerland’s Engadine Valley to experience a spectacular Alpine round against a backdrop of majestic mountains and expansive blue skies. There is no better place to stay than the iconic Kulm Hotel St. Moritz (www.kulm.com) or its sister property Grand Hotel Kronenhof (www.kronenhof.com) in nearby Pontresina, two luxurious grand dames with plenty of public areas and private grounds to relax in after a round at one of the region’s three courses. Golf has long been associated with the Kulm Hotel, which established its own historic course in 1891, making it one of the first in Switzerland. The 9-hole, par 3 meanders up and down hills, past the Olympia Bob Run and the former Olympic Stadium, through shady pine copses whilst also enjoying superb vistas over Lake St. Moritz, all just a 7 iron from the Kulm Hotel. Built at a height of 1,860 metres (among the highest in Europe), the mountainous layout makes it physically demanding, which makes the post-golf drinks on the terrace of the Chesa al Parc club house taste all the sweeter! Meanwhile the Engadine Golf Club, the oldest golf club in Switzerland, has two courses – Samedan and Zuoz-Madulain, which are a 10 and 20 minute drive respectively from the Kulm Hotel and Grand Hotel Kronenhof. In 1893, Samedan was the first 18-hole golf course to open its doors in Switzerland. A classic, parkland course, Samedan is set mainly on the valley floor, though some gently undulating holes and greens give the course a links feel. Its broad fairways are flanked by ancient, giant larch trees, some of which are over 700 years old, whilst a host of water hazards make for a tricky golfing challenge. Zuoz-Madulain (known simply as Zuoz to the locals) opened in 2003 and was designed by the renowned Canadian golf course architect Les Furber. In contrast to the golf course in Samedan, the layout at Zuoz

offers a challenging combination of undulating fairways, elevation changes and receptive greens, plus a super attractive setting as it is flanked on one side by natural thick pine forest, which has made it very popular among the golfing community. Away from the golf courses, visitors can explore the extensive Engadine valley via its hiking routes and mountain bike paths, whilst the numerous lakes provide plenty of opportunities for a range of water sports, such as wild swimming, stand-up paddle boarding and kite surfing. After an active day outdoors, both hotels have large luxurious spas and multiple bars and restaurants in which to enjoy some welldeserved R&R.

Central Oregon’s Three Top 100 Courses, Hidden Gems and Prime Summer Tee Times BEND, OR — A prime summer tee time at the best of Central Oregon’s golf courses isn’t always a gimme. But 2020 is no ordinary year, and that presents an opportunity for golfers — a chance to beat the summer heat and enjoy the very best of Central Oregon golf however and whenever they choose. With its 30 golf courses — including three in Golf Digest’s Top 100 and diversity in course design that is rare — Central Oregon has long been considered among the top destinations in the country for a golf trip. That is particularly true in Central Oregon’s famously mild summer when the dry, clear days of the High Desert yield average high temperatures that settle in the low-80s. In this era of social distancing, Central Oregon’s appeal to golfers has only strengthened with courses that offer plenty of room to roam. Anchored by its cultural hub in Bend, Central Oregon is home to championship designs spread throughout the region. That includes the PGA Tour pedigree of Sunriver Resort’s three championship golf courses, including Crosswater Club, a Golf Digest Top 100 mainstay. It includes the accessible-to-all designs of Black Butte Ranch’s two championship designs. Central Oregon’s offerings include more Golf Digest favorites such as the Jack Nicklaus and Tom Fazio courses of Pronghorn Resort and the David McLay Kidd gem of Tetherow, as well as the player-friendly design of Brasada Ranch in Powell Butte. The options include less familiar names like Aspen Lakes Golf Course in Sisters — named by Golf Advisor as one of the country’s great hidden gems — and budget-friendly choices like Juniper Golf Course in Redmond, considered the top municipal course in Oregon. The region’s golf product always manages to get better, too. To celebrate its 50th anniversary, Black Butte Ranch has opened a new family-friendly putting course designed by John Fought, the award-winning architect who also designed the resort’s Glaze Meadow course and co-designed Crosswater. Tetherow, where GolfBoards were born, added Finn Scooters to its fun mix as well as continued refinement of its links-style course. It also means exciting new places to stay, including Pronghorn’s Huntington Lodge, which opened in 2019. To begin planning your golf trip to Central Oregon, visitcentraloregon.com.

Apple Valley Golf Course at Rumbling Bald on Schedule to Reopen with Champion Bermuda Greens LAKE LURE, N.C. – Rumbling Bald, the 36-hole golf resort on stunning Lake Lure, reports its Dan Maples-designed Apple Valley Golf Course is on schedule to open later this summer featuring new Champion Bermuda greens on all 18 holes. Apple Valley began its transition from bentgrass to the smoothrolling Bermuda grass in June. After exhaustive research and testing, Champion was selected for its superior performance profile, heat tolerance and ease of maintenance. It has speeds up to two feet faster than other ultradwarf turf cultivars as measured by a stimpmeter. Champion Bermuda is the marquee turf product of Bay City, Texas-based Champion Turf Farms. Founded by Morris Brown in 1966, other North Carolina courses with the grass include Quail Hollow Club in Charlotte (G-12), site of the 2017 PGA Championship, and famed Pinehurst No. 2, host of the 1999, 2005, 2014 and 2024 U.S. Opens. “Golfers are going to love putting on these greens, and my staff is going to enjoy taking care of them,” says Matt Lovell, Rumbling Bald Director of Golf Course Maintenance. “Bentgrass requires more maintenance throughout the summer, from additional water to fans. With Champion Bermuda, we’ll be able to focus entirely on

the golfer experience.” The golfer experience at one of Western North Carolina’s only 36-hole golf destinations keeps getting better with numerous enhancements to both Apple Valley and sister course, Bald Mountain. From tree removal and new landscape to E-Z-GO golf carts with USB ports, complimentary coolers and rolled towels, Rumbling Bald continues to evolve and innovate. “Our golf courses are an invaluable amenity here at Rumbling Bald, and we’ve committed to providing guests with an outstanding playing surface from tee to green,” says General Manager Jeff Geisler. “The greens on Apple Valley are growing in nicely and we’re excited to share them with the golfing world this summer and fall.” Rumbling Bald offers golf packages combing rounds at both courses with the resort’s 150 sparkling clean vacation rental homes, condos and studios. Ideal for social distancing, they feature golf course and mountain views. Golfers can grab to-go meals from Legends on the Lake, the resort’s casual dining restaurant on Lake Lure. Women’s Golf Day Returns To The Fairways With September 1St Event

900 venues across 52 countries took part in WGD 2019. All registered venues benefit from marketing support and resources in the lead up to the event date, including a listing on the new WGD website, which can be upgraded to a featured location if desired. The campaign’s impressive social media channels, which achieved over 30 million impressions on the virtual version of the global celebration in June, are also an important part of the marketing mix for the venues involved across the world. This year, WGD locations and consumers are also being offered the chance to enhance their events with the addition of golf tip books, Ahead hats, beautiful custom silk scarves and WGD merchandise including a capsule collection from campaign partner; SwingDish. The collection, which is in the familiar red and white colourway of the WGD campaign, includes a branded bag, garments and accessories. These items ship worldwide and are available to order at http://www.womensgolfday.com/shop for consumers. Retailers can sign up for a wholesale account with SwingDish by registering here https://swingdish.com/pages/become-a-retailer. Research carried out by WGD shows that the most successful event format is one that encourages new and current female golfers to take part together, across a 4-hour experience, that combines golf with a social element, such as a talk, presentation or even a drinks party. Locations vary in type from golf superstores to indoor facilities and driving ranges as well as traditional golf clubs. PGA Professionals whose facilities host WGD events will earn 2 MSR credits. Elisa Gaudet, Founder of Women’s Golf Day explains: “Golf offers people a great opportunity to get to know one another and to feel part of a community, which is why we encourage locations to include a social element. The sense of belonging golf offers feels even more valuable right now, which is why we are keen to go ahead with an event on September 1st. Obviously not every country will be able to hold the same scale of event that they would do normally, but there are a lot of venues who are telling us that they will benefit from holding a WGD event.”

Designed by Paul Albanese, Sweetgrass, features an open layout with some of the game’s most fun greens to putt (Redan, Biarritz, Island, and Double-Green), as well some wonderful strategic holes including the famous island green No. 15, and spectacular finishing par 5 holes on each side. The course, which plays host to the Symetra Tour’s Island Resort Championship, is ranked among Golfweek’s Best Courses, as well as recognition by GOLF Magazine and Golf Digest as a Best in State ranking. Sage Run, also designed by Albanese, offers a contrasting style from its sister course. The course meanders through beautiful Upper Peninsula hardwoods and open vistas with very dramatic views. A natural drumlin, or elongated hill or ridge formed by glacial ice long ago, is the primary feature on Sage Run. Golf holes were routed up and around the hill offering a scenic variety of shots creating a fun thrill ride for golfers. A variety of long and short golf holes with long fescue grasses lining the fairway and edging the bunkers, as well as creative short par fours with some blind shots, will challenge golfers of all abilities. The course also plays host to some of the top collegiate players with The Island Resort Collegiate at Sage Run. In 2019, Sage Run was named to Golf Digest’s prestigious list of “Best New Courses.” Island Resort Golf Packages Following weeks of sheltering in place, golfers looking to escape and enjoy a great golfing road trip, will surly enjoy one of the largest golf and gaming destinations in the Midwest. orth and South Carolina are home to nearly 1,000 golf courses, including the largest golf resort in North America, Pinehurst Resort. Many of the states’ layouts bear the names of renowned designers like Tom Fazio, Jack Nicklaus, Pete Dye, Robert Trent Jones and Gil Hanse. But over the years, the Carolinas have cultivated their own crop of talented golf course architects who’ve set up shop in these two golf-rich states. For aficionados who collect not only courses but course designers, here’s a shortlist of venues to check out next time you’re traveling to, or through, the Old North or Palmetto States. Apple Valley, Rumbling Bald Resort (Dan Maples) Dan Maples is part of the “first family” of North Carolina golf course architecture, which includes his late father, Ellis and uncle, Henson. Based in the Village of Pinehurst, Maples built a reputation, in part, on his ability to craft eminently playable, always enjoyable mountainstyle courses. Apple Valley at Rumbling Bald Resort in Lake Lure, N.C. is a case in point. Remarkably, Maples routed the layout so that 75% of all shots are either level or downhill. It’s on schedule to reopen late summer of 2020 with new smooth-rolling Champion Bermuda greens on all 18 holes. Paired with sister course Bald Mountain, the dynamic duo makes for a compelling western Carolina combination. Sea Pines Country Club, Club Course (Clyde Johnston) Hilton Head Island-headquartered Clyde Johnston cut his teeth with venerable architect Willard Byrd in the early 70s. He moved on to work with Gary Player, Ron Kirby and Dennis Griffiths, but returned to work for Byrd, who was inundated with work in Myrtle Beach at the time.

Johnston has dozens of Carolinas design credits, but one of his true masterpieces is his redesign work at Sea Pines Country Club’s Club Course, just down the road from his office. In 2001, he artfully rebuilt Arnold Palmer and Frank Duane’s original 1973 design to create a modern masterpiece that excels quietly in the shadow of Harbour Town Golf Links next door. Sea Pines Country Club is a private, member-owned club. Traveling golfers looking to hang up their soft spikes and call Hilton Head home can play the Club Course via scheduling a full tour of the award-winning club and all its amenities. Its setting along an expansive Lowcountry tidal marsh and close-knit family vibe make it a popular choice among golfers relocating from points north. Pinehurst No. 5 (Ellis Maples) It’s impossible to separate Pinehurst Resort from Donald Ross, and Ross from Pinehurst Resort. The two are intrinsically bound, as Ross not only designed famed No. 2, underrated No. 1, and recently restored No. 3, he lived just off the third green on No. 2 in fabled Dornoch Cottage. Ross was Ellis Maples’ mentor in the mid-to-late 20s, as the “would be king of Carolina golf” went on to craft 60 courses across the Southeast, mostly in North Carolina. Pinehurst No. 5 epitomizes Maples’ design philosophy, playing from high point to high point along Pinehurst Lake, with minimal blind shots and no overly penal bunkers. Greens accept, rather than repel, approach shots – a departure from Ross’s modus operandi. The par-3 14th, known as “The Cathedral Hole,” is one of the area’s most picturesque. This one-shotter channels the par-3 12th at Augusta National, with a green complex encircled by ancient Loblolly pines and colorful dogwood trees. 22 Golf Vacations • August 2020

Cherokee Valley Course and Club (P.B. Dye) Much like his famous father, Pete, who designed aforementioned Harbour Town and the Ocean Course at Kiawah Island Resort, P.B. Dye is an adopted son of the Carolinas. His wife, Jean, graduated from the University of South Carolina in Columbia, and the two never miss an opportunity to catch a game in Williams-Brice Stadium. P.B. fell in love with the Eighth State in the 90s, and left his mark on the Greenville area with Cherokee Valley Course and Club. Situated in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains, Cherokee Valley displays numerous Dye characteristics while offering an exceedingly playable golf course with only a smattering of blind shots and uneven lies. The par-3 eighth hole (soon to be the sixth hole when the layout is reconfigured with the opening of a new restaurant, Core 450) features a 70-foot drop from tee to green and a panoramic view of Glassy Mountain in the distance. Hickory Knob Golf Course (Tom Jackson) Meandering along the shores of Lake Thurmond, Greenville, S.C., native Tom Jackson brings water either in-play, or nearby, on every hole at Hickory Knob Golf Course. The course’s decidedly differing nines are separated by a ridge running

through the property. The lake makes itself known on the final three holes, its final act being an approach shot over water to the green on the par-4 18th. Hickory Knob is actually owned and operated by South Carolina’s state park system – a sure sign the state embraces the game. Golf packages are even available with lodging in the park’s Lodge Rooms, Cabins or “Group Barracks.” Tiger’s Eye (Tim Cate) Byrd’s architectural family tree has many limbs, and in addition to Johnston, Sunset Beach, N.C.-based Tim Cate is another of the late Atlanta-based architect’s mentees. An independent spirit with a unique eye for both dramatic and strategic design, Cate split from Byrd early in his career to hang his own shingle. The course that put him on the Myrtle Beach-Grand Strand golf map was Tiger’s Eye at Ocean Ridge Plantation. Opened in 2000, Cate’s early piece-de-resistance is a visual cornucopia of locally harvested coquina boulders, waste areas and native grasses. Golfers tend to remember par 3s, and Tiger’s Eye’s collection of one-shot holes rival any course in the region, if not the state.

ISLANDS OF LORETO, MEXICO

F

ishing poles still outnumber golf bags in the baggage claim terminal at Loreto’s tiny airport on Baja Sur’s east coast, where the balmy, blue-green Sea of Cortez waters are loaded with snapper, grouper, dorado, marlin, sailfish, seabass and yellowtail tuna. But in the past year, more and more golfers—some of them quite famous--have begun arriving in this small village of 13,000 people that was founded in 1697 by Jesuit missionaries. In one month, Philadelphia Eagles Owner Jeffrey Lurie arrived on his private jet and former Mexican President Enrique Pena Nieto was here for a week. Some golfers have begun docking their yachts in the bay, climbing on dinghies with their clubs and floating to shore. The attraction? Legendary golf course architect Rees Jones’ latest masterpiece, TPC Danzante Bay at the Islands of Loreto. The course, located 20 miles south of Loreto at the Villa del Palmar Beach Resort & Spa, features an out of this world 17th hole that is perched on a cliff, 250 feet above the tranquil Sea of Cortez. From the back tees, 178 yards away, the peninsula green appears like a sliver. Breaching whales, leaping dolphins and flopping stingrays are often the backdrop while golfers ponder their club choice. “It’s not the golf that’s so tough,” said Danzante Bay’s Head Pro Danny Garcia. “It’s your imagination and getting caught up in what’s around you. Your focus leaves you. When you try to hit the shot, you have to regroup and restart your brain.” Inexplicably, the 17th hole’s jaw-dropping location wasn’t in the original course design. But that changed when the resort’s developer, Owen Perry, took renowned golf course architect Rees Jones up to a ridge and explained his vision for the hole. “We’re standing on the cliff and a few blue whales cruise by; I couldn’t have planned it any better,” Perry said. “Rees said ‘We’re going to have to redo some things, but if you do it, it’s going to be one of the best holes in Baja.’ “ Mission accomplished. Since opening in December of 2017, Danzante Bay’s signature 17th hole and the 7,200-yard, par 72-course have captivated the golf industry, winning awards from three noted golf publications, including two Editors’ Choice awards from Golf Digest. On a recent weekday, the course was full of life, but not crowded. Rounds of 3½ hours were easily accomplished as golfers navigated their way through valleys, arroyos, dunes, and foothills. Every hole includes panoramic views of Danzante Bay, the Sea of Cortez, the Sierra de la Giganta Mountains or the surrounding five Islands of Loreto. Unlike most resort courses in golf-crazy Cabo, Danzante Bay’s fairways are wide enough for the average player, yet still challenging for the low-handicapper. “Rees and I both felt golf was getting too tough,” said Perry, a Rancho Santa Fe resident whose Villa Group manages 12 luxury resorts throughout Mexico. “The average golfer was not enjoying the experience. We wanted to build a course where the resort client could come and have a good day. That was our goal and I think we hit that.”

Golf Vacations • August 2020 25

CLUB SELECTION In Cabo, there are 18 resort golf courses lined up along the Baja peninsula. Loreto has just two, Danzante Bay and the Loreto Bay Golf Resort. “Everybody mentions that this is Cabo 20 years ago,” Garcia said. “The golf course and the resort are laid back and peaceful, like the town. Loreto’s a magical, undiscovered town. Nobody bothers you.” As more tourists discover the golf course and the plush accommodations at the 188-room Villa del Palmar, Perry knows his resort could quickly become overcrowded. So expansion plans are underway at Danzante Bay, where paving has begun to make way for 140 luxury homes--11 lots have already been sold. Construction has started on the last of four water desalination plants and there are plans for a marina, a private beach club, a golf clubhouse, a golf practice facility and more restaurants. “We have this whole bay to develop,” Perry said. For now, it’s enough for Perry simply to enjoy the panoramic views of Danzante Bay and the islands of Loreto from any one of seven tee boxes on the 17th hole. Chances are, he probably won’t be alone. Resorts guests have become fond of hiking up to the hole with the breathtaking views for selfies or group pictures at sunrise, sunset or any time in between. Deals From now until Dec. 20, TPC Danzante Bay is offering unlimited golf packages, which include three-night stays at the Villa del Palmar Resort & Spa. Play has been limited the last few months, so the course is in superb condition and the greens are rolling pure. The resort recently received a Secure Travel Seal for the World Travel & Tourism Council, which allows travelers to be aware of which resorts around the world have adopted global health and hygiene protocols. Reservations can be made by calling 800-790-4187 from the United States or Canada or 800-838-2662 from Mexico. Golf package details can be found at unlimitedgolforspapackage.

W

alker Trolleys – a walking golf lifestyle brand and maker of premium push carts –exceeded first and second quarter sales projections for its Cape model amid strong nation-wide demand for walking-engineered golf gear. The company has sold 90% of the first production run of the Cape through preorder and immediately launched a second run to replenish inventory and fulfill orders. April revenue was up 300% over March, and May was 300% above April’s top line. Founder and CEO Brad Payne says June and July sales could exceed the previous three months combined. “The response to the Cape has been incredible,” says Payne. “Walking golf and push carts are experiencing a renaissance as golfers realize the health, wellness and fitness benefits. As we round into the fall and cooler weather, we expect demand to further increase.” From its inception, the Cape was crafted to be distinctly different than other push carts, drawing inspiration from the roadsters and ultra-cool bicycles from the 20s and 30s. Its anodized aluminum frame, waxed canvas storage and handcrafted leather handle combine to create a clean, classic design separating it from a crowded field. The Cape is easily collapsible and fits in the trunk or cargo area of almost any vehicle. Customizable soft good storage accessories, foam-filled tires and an umbrella accessory are in development and will be available in the next few months. A non-folding, storable version of the Cape is in the works, ideal for courses, clubs and resorts. “People have rediscovered the joy of

walking golf during the pandemic, and we expect this trend to not only continue, but grow,” Payne says. “We are one of only a few push cart companies that has inventory to continue meeting demand. Moving forward, we have positioned the brand well for the future.” The Cape retails for $399 and is available to order at Walker Trolleys’ online store and will generally ship in 1-2 days. Galway Bay

ombining style, technology and performance, Galway Bay Golf has a new line of all-weather gear that fits the bill when it comes to wind, rain, and cold temperatures. Leading with its innovative Carlisle jacket that uses the latest breathable weatherproof technology that is both light and waterproof, has an excellent fit that allows for ease of movement and yet is not too bulky and looks stylish enough to go to dinner after the round. Galway Bay’s bi-component technology (Hydro-Flex 32) is a proprietary, three-layer 100% waterproof fabric that is constructed with a hydrophilic interior to pull moisture away from the skin and transfer it to the outer layer. The exterior surface area disperses and releases moisture for more efficient dry times. It regulates temperature in both hot and cold conditions. In addition, the fabric is breathable, stretchable, and features a rubberized waterproof zipper that together creates a supremely comfortable fit.

The Carlisle is available in multiple color options and features a softer, quieter fabric than typical rain gear and rubberized waterproof zippers. The neckline is lowered and rounded on the edges, so it is not a distraction during a golf swing, creating one of the most comfortable rains jackets around. A perfect complement to the Carlisle jacket is the all-weather lined Winchester pants. The Winchester’s inner liner is constructed of a high-end, temperatureregulating fabric that ensures comfort in temperatures down to 30 degrees Fahrenheit. The pants, which feature belt loops, a seven-inch zipper, and nine-inchdeep pockets, are designed to look like and be worn as golf slacks, eliminating the need to dress in layers. The pants can be ordered to fit a golfer’s exact waist and inseam sizes, optimizing comfort, fit and style. The nonlined Waterville pant has the same design as the cold-weather Winchester but is even more lightweight and made to be worn in temperatures between 45- and 75-degrees Fahrenheit. “Even with all the technology in the fabric, it’s crucial that our apparel is lightweight enough so golfers can move and swing without restriction,” noted Galway

SWEETSTUFF by Terry Ross

Bay CEO Bryan Finnerty. “This is first allweather pant that was never designed to be worn over your golf pants. They are your golf pants. Brilliant designers ensure the styles match today’s golfer’s tastes.” More than a decade ago the Galway Bay team found themselves dissatisfied with traditional rain gear’s ability to keep golfers consistently warm, dry, and able to swing naturally. So, they set out to create a better class of golf outerwear. These offerings hit the mark. A new addition to this year’s Galway Bay line is the Westport Half-Sleeve pullover, 100-percent waterproof top with two layers of outer-water repellency. This seam-sealed jacket is the first of its kind to feature an additional weather barrier which creates increased waterproof and easier movement. The sleeveless Canterbury vest features a quilted, lightly insulated front with comfort fitting back and stretch side panels. The design provides full range-of-motion for an unrestricted golf swing. This full-zip vest has a small 1.25” collar for comfort. The Canterbury can be worn alone or as a layering piece under any of the Galway Bay jackets. All Galway Bay fabrics are designed to breathe easy, releasing excess body heat and reducing sweat. For more information on Galway Bay’s line of golf outerwear, visit: www. GalwayBayGolf.com

Prevail Jerky

S

nacks during a round of golf are important for several reasons— including strength and focus—in addition to the obvious hunger-quenching qualities that they can provide. Having something healthy, handy, and tasty that is easy to eat while deciding between an 8 iron and a 9 iron is always a plus while on the course. Prevail Jerky is not your traditional beef jerky that is tough to chew, is filled with additives like soy, preservatives, sugar, nitrates, and MSG. Prevail is a healthy beef jerky that has a great taste and soft texture that can be very filling with just a few slices-all while ditching the harmful additives so commonly found in most other jerky. The result is an incredible, deliciously unmatched taste, paired with the perfect

LugLess Shipping

E

ven before the pandemic changed the face of air travel this year, getting golf clubs or even everyday luggage from Point A to Point B was many times the least enjoyable part of a trip. Enter a company called LugLess-that even in these times of diminished air travel—has seen its business double because it is solving a problem that travelers want handled more than ever these days so they don’t have to stand in long TSA lines or wait in crowds at baggage claim to gather their belongings. The LugLess shipping service has seen a dramatic increase in golf enthusiasts opting to ship their clubs to their destinations, instead of checking them on their flight, during the coronavirus pandemic. By shipping their golf clubs in advance, travelers can get in and out of the airport faster by not standing in bag check lines and avoiding

crowded airport carousels, thereby reducing the amount of contact point interactions. “We’ve found that those golfers who are planning a golf trip this summer feel safer doing so without carrying and checking their clubs at the airport,” said Aaron Kirley, President of LugLess. “If travelers don’t have to wait at the crowded baggage claim area to retrieve their clubs, then they can eliminate a potentially high-risk area of interaction.” LugLess introduced the first costcompetitive alternative to checking bags at the airport by enabling travelers to ship luggage directly to their destination for as little as $15. LugLess leverages existing logistics networks to make shipping luggage easier and cheaper than checking a bag. The introduction of LugLess’ ultra-low-cost service provides a no-frills luggage shipping solution to the frustrated traveling masses who are increasingly dissatisfied with the inconvenience and rising costs of carrying and checking luggage at the airport. According to LugLess officials, users have cited coronavirus concerns when flying and appreciate how the service alleviates some of their anxiety. “Travelers are looking for solutions that help them speed through airports right now. No one wants to completely stop traveling but they do want to make it as safe as possible,” added Kirley. “We know that golfers are passionate about the game, and we are happy to help them continue to enjoy the sport with less worry.” For more information on LugLess, please visit: www.lugless.com
