F ROM THE EDITOR

I am writing this letter from the editor while sitting in a room with an ocean view in Antigua.

T h i s i s t h e f i r s t i s s u e t h a t d i d n’ t g e t c o m p l e t e d b e fore we left for another project. Unexpected chall e n g e s , a n d j u s t l i f e g o t i n t h e w a y.

I am so glad it did.

I tried to book other trips. Nothing felt right.

I even booked tickets to Sri Lanka, and then canc e l e d t h e m t w o d a y s l a t e r. I t j u s t . . . d i d n’ t f e e l r i g h t .

My subconscious is hoping the answer will h e l p.

B o b by ’s e ye s p u l l a w a y f r o m t h e c o m p u t e r s c r e e n . Po s t p r o d u c t i o n a n d e d i t i n g s t a r t t h e moment the plane lands. “ T h e a r c h i t e c t u r e, t h e m i x o f o l d a n d n e w.

My mind traces back to the moment I bought t i c k e t s t o N e w Yo r k . I t w a s n’ t a p a r t o f t h e o r i g i n a l p l a n . M a y ’s o r i g i n a l t r i p g o t c a n celed. I was looking through all other differe n t o p t i o n s w h e n N Y c a m e u p. “ N e w Yo r k . A ye a r l a t e r. C ov i d - 1 9 e d i t i o n . ” My brain immediately kicked the shadow of the idea off before it could even become a real thought.

To o m u c h p a i n . To o s o o n . I ’ m n o t r e a d y.

N e w Yo r k , a c i t y o f p o s s i b i l i t i e s , l ov e, f r e e dom and transfor mation was also a city of unbearable pain and most challenging moments i n m y l i f e t h r o u g h o u t t h e ye a r s .

N e w Yo r k g av e m e t h e i n s p i r a t i o n a n d t h e drive to keep going after my dreams.

A n d t h e n … N e w Yo r k r u t h l e s s l y c r u s h e d m e at the very moment every time when I would attempt to settle and just… live a peaceful, s i m p l e l i f e.

There is a deep connection that NY has to my h e a r t , m i n d a n d s o u l . I t p u s h e d m e b e yo n d w h a t I t h o u g h t w a s h u m a n l y p o s s i b l e. I t m a d e m e e x p e r i e n c e a p a l e t t e o f e m o t i o n s I d i d n’ t k n o w e x i s t e d . P l a ye d a c r u c i a l r o l e i n w h o I a m a s a h u m a n b e i n g t o d a y.

A t t h e s a m e t i m e, i s t h e r e s u c h a t h i n g a s “ready”? Are we ever truly ready to step out of the comfort zone?

My mind is feverishly sifting through possibilities and creative options. There is so much t o c ov e r i n N Y. C u l t u r e s . S t o r i e s . A r e p e o p l e the same today? Did anything change after a pandemic made its ruthless run through one o f w o r l d ’s f av o r i t e c i t i e s ?

There is only one way to find out.

РЕШЕНИЕ «Расскажи мне о трех вещах, которые тебе нравились в Нью-Йорке», - мой мозг перебирает миллион мыслей и идей, пытаясь найти что-то, за что можно ухватиться. Мое подсознание надеется, что ответ поможет. Глаза Бобби отрываются от экрана компьютера. Постпродакшн и монтаж начинаются с момента приземления самолета. «Архитектура, смесь старого и нового. Как эти старые здания сливаются с новыми, современными постройками. Собственно, это касается всего, включая людей. Смесь старого и нового. Принятие и единство. Атмосфера. Итак, архитектура, люди, атмосфера ». Мысли проносятся у меня в голове: «И три вещи, которые тебе не понравились?» Пауза длится несколько секунд, после чего следует ответ, которого я никак не ожидала: “Ничего. Нет ничего, что мне не понравилось. Или неприятно. Ну, мусор на улицах каждую ночь раздражал, но это то, что делает НьюЙорк Нью-Йорком. Я бы не хотел, чтобы даже этого не существовало. Я люблю Нью-Йорк. Это другой мир. Он уникален » Облако чувств и мыслей превращается в нечто более определенное. Нью-Йорк уникален. Нью-Йорк отличается. Нью-Йорк - это котел культур, жизней, историй, религий и взглядов. Я вспоминаю тот момент, когда я купила билеты в Нью-Йорк. Это не входило в первоначальный план. Первоначальная поездка в мае была отменена. Я просматривала все другие варианты, когда был предложен Нью-Йорк. “Нью-Йорк. Год спустя. Издание C ov i d - 1 9 » . Мой мозг немедленно отбросил даже зернышко идеи, прежде чем она могла стать реальной мыслью. Слишком больно. Слишком рано. Я не готова.

Потеря Тая, единственного человека, который всегда видел меня таким, какая я есть, того, кто поднимал меня из пепла и заново восстанавливал меня по частям снова и снова, того, кого я очень любила и с которым мы разделили много сложностей. Дружба, которую сложно объяснить, на протяжении последних 20 лет, и потеря его из-за Ковида в начале пандемии была последним ударом по моему, уже очень раненому тогда, сердцу. Нью-Йорк, город возможностей, любви, свободы и трансформации, также был городом невыносимой боли и самых сложных моментов в моей жизни на протяжении многих лет. Нью-Йорк вдохновил меня и побудил продолжать следовать своей мечте. А потом… Нью-Йорк безжалостно раздавил меня в тот самый момент, когда я старалась просто… жить. мирной, обычной жизнью. Нью-Йорк глубоко связан с моим сердцем, разумом и душой. НЙ подтолкивал меня к преодолению границ, которые я считала возможными для человека. Он заставил меня испытать палитру эмоций, о существовании которых я даже не подозревала. Сыграл решающую роль в том, кем я являюсь сегодня как человек. Но возвращаться в Нью-Йорк всего через год ... Это не кажется лучшей идеей. Не сейчас. В то же время существует ли такое понятие, как «готово»? Готовы ли мы когда-нибудь выйти из зоны комфорта? Мой разум лихорадочно перебирает возможности и творческие варианты. В НьюЙорке есть с чем работать. Культуры. Истории. Люди такие же сегодня? Изменилось ли чтонибудь после того, как пандемия безжалостно прокатилась по одному из любимых городов мира? Есть только один способ узнать. Мои пальцы открывают Заметки на телефоне и набирают «поговорить с Бобби о Нью-Йорке».

A f r a c t i o n o f a d o u b t s l i g h t l y ov e r s h a d o w s t h e i n i t i a l e x citement. “ N o , m a ’ a m , w e c a n n o t a s s i g n yo u r s e a t s r i g h t n o w e i t e r.

“Not worth it.” - my conscious wheighs the pros and cons o n c e m o r e a n d s e t t l e s i n a g r e e m e n t w i t h t h e g u t f e e l i n g. “ We ’d s av e $ 1 0 0 0 . ” - B o b by ’s a t t e m p t t o r a i s e t h e c o m p a n y ’s b u d g e t a b i t i s a d m i r a b l e b u t n o t s u c c e s s f u l . “ I ’d rather just stay put”.

A nod in agreement settles the question.

НОЧНОЙ ПЕРЕЛЁТ Ночной рейс полный. Очень полный. Мой мозг быстро заметил, что полеты в разгар пандемии определенно имели свои преимущества. «Внимание всем пассажирам. Рейс 10:30 в НьюЙорк в настоящее время перепродан. Мы ищем 3 волонтеров, желающих перебронировать свой рейс. Вы получите компенсацию в размере 500 долларов США » Моя голова поворачивается направо в тот момент, когда Бобби поворачивает налево. «Хочешь»? Я «за»!” Мои ноги находят правильный путь до того, как мои губы заканчивают ответ. Эта перемена полностью покроет расход за билеты. Сокращение бюджета на поездку на 1000 долларов - это очень желанная вещь сейчас, учитывая наши приключения в Коста Рике. Передо мной уже дама меняет расписание слеги полёта. Мои уши улавливают часть ее разговора с работником. «Нет, мадам, мы не можем гарантировать, что ваши сумки будут доставлены на следующем рейсе. Они могут остаться на этом, если их слишком сложно найти, но мы заверяем вас, что сумки доберутся до вас как можно скорее ». Пока женщина впереди меня продолжает обсуждать своипланы, мой разум переоценивает ситуацию. Сумки могут не успеть. Или они могут приехать слишком рано и зависнуть где-нибудь в аэропорту. Сомнение слегка затмевает первоначальную радость. «Нет, мадам, сейчас мы не можем распределить ваши места. Вы попадете в список ожидающих для распределения мест. Следующий рейс тоже полон, да », - бортпроводник берёт трубку телефона, чтобы ответить на звонок. ….. “Что?” - Бобби недоуменно поднимает брови, когда я снова появляюсь на сиденье рядом с ним. «Не стоит того». - мое сознание еще раз взвешивает «за» и «против» и соглашается с внутренним ощущением. «Мы бы сэкономили 1000 долларов». - Попытка Бобби немного поднять бюджет компании достойна восхищения, но не увенчивается успехом. «Я бы предпочла все же долететь».Кивок в знак согласия с моей стороны решает вопрос.

STRAWBERRY FIELDS Why did I ever think that a red-eye is a good idea?

My eyelids feel like they weigh 100 lbs each. At bright and early 7am NYC time, but 4am LA time, New York doesn’t seem like a fun place to be in at all. The thought of crawling into bed for a few quality sleep hours sounds a lot more appealing.

“Let’s get a cab and get to the hotel as soon as possible. And SLEEP”. I don’t need any words from Bobby to know he feels the same... …“I hope they are still playing Beatles songs at Strawberry Fields as they used to”, - my mind, fresh and rested, is racing with the speed of light through all my favorite memories from the time I lived in NYC. Amazing how much difference a couple hours of a good quality sleep can make.

Silence follows as a reply to my comment.

My eyes glance sideways to my right and a smile touches corners of my lips.

All Bobby’s mind and body are dissolved in what’s around him. I know exactly what it feels like.

Memories of my first time in NYC make their way to the front line.

Feelings of belonging, amusement, awe, curiosity, surprise and admiration, all mixed together into something that is very hard to explain, fill every cell of my body. It does feel as if it was yesterday that I walked the NYC streets for the first time, soaking in the vibe and admiring the beauty around me. The type that is very unique to this city, where all colors, races, cultures, financial and social statuses are blended together. NYC is a true melting pot.

The person walking next to you can be a millionaire or a poor, freshly-out-of-university student. A religious pastor or an atheist. You don’t really know. And you don’t really care. …

A close by sound of guitar strings catches my ear.

A soft voice is singing one of the Beatles’ famous songs. My feet speed up automatically.

The clicking sound of the shutter can mean one thing only : Bobby saw the Strawberry Fields.

My warmest memories connect to this place. This is where I’d come after a long day to recharge. This is where I’d later bring my - then only three - kids. This is where I’d make sure to come when I traveled for my NYC meetings. Strawberry Fields is my heart’s sanctuary. It fuels my soul. It’s my resting place.

Bobby’s fingers continuously press the shutter release button. There is that “sparkle” in his eyes. He is in his element. Can’t help but smile: Strawberry Fields has charmed him too.

ЗЕМЛЯНИЧНАЯ ПОЛЯНА Почему я когда-либо думала, что ночной рейс - это хорошая идея? Кажется, что мои веки весят 100 фунтов каждое. В ясное и раннее время в 7 утра по Нью-Йорку, но в 4 утра по Лос-Анджелесу, Нью-Йорк вовсе не кажется интересным. Мысль о том, чтобы залезть в постель на несколько часови хорошенько отоспаться намного привлекательнее. «Давай возьмем такси и поскорее доберемся до отеля. И потом сразу спать”. Мне не нужны слова Бобби, чтобы знать, что он абсолютно согласен... …«Я надеюсь, что они по-прежнему играют песни Beatles в Strawberry Fields, как и раньше», - мой свежий и отдохнувший разум мчится со скоростью света через все мои любимые воспоминания о тех временах, когда я жила в Нью-Йорке. Удивительно, как разительно меняется взгляд на мир после пары часов качественного сна. В ответ на мой комментарий следует тишина. Глаза ловят движение справа, и улыбка касается уголков моих губ. Весь разум и тело Бобби растворены в том, что его окружает. Я точно знаю, на что это похоже. Воспоминания о моем первом приезде в Нью-Йорк ярко всплывают в сознании. Чувства сопричастности, веселья, трепета, любопытства, удивления и восхищения, смешанные вместе в нечто, что очень трудно объяснить, наполняют каждую клетку моего тела. Такое ощущение, что я впервые гуляла по улицам Нью-Йорка вчера, впитывая атмосферу и восхищаясь красотой вокруг меня.Ощущение, которое очень уникальна для этого города, где сочетаются все цвета, расы, культуры, финансовые и социальные статусы. Нью-Йорк - это котелок, в котором варятся все. Человек, идущий рядом с вами, может быть миллионером или бедным студентом, только что закончившим университет. Религиозный пастор или атеист. Вы действительно не знаете. И вам не хочется знать. … Мое ухо улавливает близкий звук гитарных струн. Мягкий голос поет одну из известных песен Битлз. Мои ноги автоматически ускоряются. Звук щелкающего фотоаппарата может означать только одно: Бобби увидел Земляничные поля. С этим местом связаны мои самые теплые воспоминания. Сюда я приходила после долгого дня, чтобы подзарядиться. Сюда я позже приведу своих - тогда всего троих - детей. Это то место, гуде я обязательно забегала, когда прилетала по рабочим делам в Нью-Йорк. Земляничные поля - это сокровенное место для моего сердца. Оно наполняем мою душу. Это - мое место душевного отдыха. Пальцы Бобби все быстрее нажимают на кнопку спуска. В его глазах снова появился «блеск». Он в своей стихии. Улыбка прячется в уголках моих губ: Земляничные поля его тоже очаровали.

MEET SHEETA L THE MASTERMIND BEHIND STORI My name is Sheetal Duggal. I was born and raised in Los Angeles with my parents, g randma, and little sister (36 now).

I went to UC Berkeley for undergraduate and I maj o r e d i n f i n a n c e.

Then m ov e d t o N YC i n 2 0 0 2 w h e r e I h av e s p e n t n e a r l y 2 0 ye a r s i n f i n a n c e c ov e r i n g s e c t o r s s u c h a s i nv e s t m e n t b a n k i n g, p r i v a t e e q u i t y, a n d h e d g e f u n d s .

The last decade has been focused on public markets in particular technology companies with a specific focus on inter net and software assets. I am married with three children and my wife and I separated in t h e l a s t ye a r.

My gorgeous children are 10,7, and 5 named Sonya, Shaan and Shahraan.

How is Stori different from anything available right now?

STORI is a social media app that focuses on expressing real time thoughts and feelings to a closed network of close friends and family. Through STORI, users can share random thoughts, ad hoc moments, and daily occurrences freely to their network of users and followers.

Put simply, · Facebook is your online social profile; · Instagram showcases your best life through visual images and videos; · Twitter is your source for news and events feed; · TikTok is about producing funny/silly video content for audiences; STORI is focused on a different aspect of your life - your day-to-day life and experiences. STORI is about how you think and what you think. STORI posts are meant to showcase daily thoughts, feelings and emotions. It’s a place to celebrate the little triumphs and common challenges that go hand in hand with everyday life. It is also a way to extend your brand with additional differentiated content for your followers to create even stronger connections with your audience.

Why did you create Stori?

When I was going through my separation, I was looking for a way to journal my day to share with my kids. My family and friends were constantly checking on me as well since they were worried about me and often I didn’t want to chat. I wanted to find a way to share and express my thoughts and feelings to the people who were closest to me. As I looked around, nothing was available to provide something that would allow me to instantly update and track my day for family and loved ones. Therefore, I went down the path of creating STORI.

What do you hope Stori will do? How will it change the space of social media today?

I hope that STORI allows people to share their lives more freely, more openly and more realistically vs. the choreographed world we see today in social media. I hope that loved ones are able to better understand each other, better communicate with each other, and better keep up with each other’s lives. The ability to understand what people are going through, share those challenging and joyful daily oddities of life would allow us all to connect with people in a more intimate and focused way. I want us to get closer to people and I believe STORI will allow us to do that by tapping into those feelings we all have but sometimes struggle to share. STORI will be a safe, secure and trusted place to express your thoughts to your friends and family without the concern of exposing those thoughts to the wrong audience.

Why do you want people to use it?

I want people to use it because I think it will add value to their lives. It will make communication easier, allow us to express our frustrations and lives with our network of trusted family/friends/colleagues and most importantly, help us understand our struggles and the struggles of those around us. STORI will hopefully allow us to bridge that chasm of miscommunication, fear of sharing, fear of posting the wrong comment and finally, create a storyline that allows us to self-reflect on our lives and potentially notice problems/issues early on.

By definition, social media are interactive technologies that allow the creation or sharing/exchange of information, ideas, career interests, and other forms of expression via virtual communities and networks. As users engage with these electronic services, they create highly interactive platforms through which individuals, communities, and organizations can share, co-create, discuss, participate, and modify user-generated content or self-curated content posted online.

Additionally, social media are used to document memories; learn about and explore things; advertise oneself; and form friendships along with the growth of ideas from the creation of blogs, podcasts, videos, and gaming sites.This changing relationship between human and technology is the focus of the emerging field of technoself studies.

The history of social media traces back to the PLATO system, launched in 1960, after being developed at the University of Illinois and subsequently commercially marketed by Control Data Corporation.

It offered early forms of social media features with 1973-era innovations such as Notes, PLATO’s message-forum application; TERM-talk, its instant-messaging feature; Talkomatic, perhaps the first online chat room.

Then we moved on to MySpace, Blogspot, Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat, Podcasts, etc.

Clubhouse had its moment of rattling the space and adding to what social media currently is.

All of social media platforms have something unique to them, but all are united by one: they focus on sharing and showing life.

Let me introduce you to STORI: the social media of the future. The platform that focuses on how we think and what we think about.

51ST & 8TH “Where is the dinner tonight?” - Bobby’s voice is echoing in the empty hallway.

“51st and 8th, about a 10 minute walk, I think?” - a bit of a hesitation makes my fingers quickly type in the address. Yes, 51st and 8th.

My mind is going over the email conversation thread and notes about this new STORI app.

I’m still not clear on all its details, but the idea is really appealing to me.

Especially from the creative point of view. No algorithm. That’s a first. Thoughts about STORI keep rushing one after the other.

“Shall we?” - Bobby’s voice from the hallway brings me back to reality. It’s time to go. …

“I really like Sheetal”, - Bobby’s eyes catch mine as my head nods in agreement.

There is something different about Sheetal. His energy. His sincerity. Sheetal’s words had both, passionate and genuine notes in them.

And then the app itself. The reason why it exists and why it was created.

“Me too. I like Sheetal a lot. And STORI. It’s exactly what’s missing today.”

A thought that’s been running through my mind from the beginning of the dinner conversation firmly settles in. My eyes find Bobby’s.

“Bobby, I want STORI to make it. I really want it to succeed. It’s exactly what the world needs.

I have a very good feeling about it. The way Sheetal talked about it… With the right steps it can go so far. I know our contract is different, but let’s help Sheetal with the launch anyway, even if a little bit. His heart is in the right place. I want to help”.

Now Bobby’s head nods in agreement.

I know he felt at the dinner meeting all I just voiced. The genuine conversation. The passion for the cause. Sheetal’s energy changed when he was talking about STORI and the reason it was created. And, most importantly, what he was hoping for it to achieve.

NYC’s nightlife is in full bloom, even if adjusted for pandemic living. Music and laughter, coming from filled to 50% or so capacity restaurants, reach my ears, but my mind is sifting through a million different ways on how STORI can and will change the social media of today and all the resources I have access to, to make it be a reality.
