Esta tecnología beneficiará a pacientes del Hospital Regional de Occidente (HRO), con la habilitación del centro de impresión 3D. Este nuevo recurso ayudará a que los médicos obtengan una mejor información de cada paciente antes de cada cirugía.

El jefe del departamento de Traumatología del HRO, Dr. Edgar Gómez, comentó que se sienten orgullosos porque el referido centro asistencial es “pionero a escala nacional”en contar con este mecanismo de esta categoría.

This technology will benefit patients of the Western Highlands Regional Hospital (HRO, Spanish acronym) with the opening of the 3D printing laboratory. This new resource will help doctors obtain better patient information before each surgery.

The head of the Traumatology Department of the HRO, Dr. Edgar Gómez, commented feeling proud of the health care center being “a pioneer on a national scale” for having a laboratory of this category.

Repunte histórico de ventas nacionales

En 2022, las exportaciones crecieron 15.2 por ciento y, en el año anterior, 22.7 por ciento. Pasaron 9 años para que las ventas nacionales aumentaran en más de 2 dígitos. En ese mismo período, Centroamérica se posicionó por encima de Estados Unidos (EE. UU.), como el principal destino de los productos guatemaltecos. El dinamismo mostrado por el comercio de Guatemala con el resto del mundo genera fuentes de empleo digno, lo que se traduce en mejor calidad de vida de los connacionales.

A Historic upturn in domestic sales

Exports in 2022 grew by 15.2 percent, while growth in the previous year was 22.7 percent. It took nine years for domestic sales to increase by more than double digits. Central America, above the United States, became the leading destination for domestic products during the same period. Guatemalan trade’s dynamism with the rest of the world provides sources of decent employment, which translates into a better quality of life for its nationals.

Guatemala fue anfitrión de la Reunión de Coordinadores Especiales de la Declaración de Los Ángeles sobre Migración y Protección, donde se conversó sobre la dinámica migratoria y las alternativas conjuntas para beneficiar a los connacionales.

El ministro de Relaciones Exteriores, Mario Búcaro, expresó: “Estamos unidos con un solo propósito… salvar vidas, llevar esperanza”. Además, resaltó que la migración debe ser ordenada, segura, regular y optativa.

Generar oportunidades

La asesora especial del presidente de Estados Unidos, Katie Tobin, reconoció el liderazgo de Guatemala en el abordaje del tema migratorio, puesto que se han dado oportunidades para obtener trabajos temporales en EE. UU., Canadá, España y México.

Los delegados presentes agradecieron la coordinación de nuestro país para este encuentro.

Guatemala hosted the Special Coordinators Meeting of the Los Angeles Declaration on Migration and Protection, which addressed migration dynamics and joint alternatives to benefit nationals.

Mario Búcaro, Minister of Foreign Affairs, expressed: “We are together with a single purpose... to save lives, to bring hope”. He also emphasized that migration must be orderly, safe, regular, and optional.

Generating opportunities

Katie Tobin, the special advisor to the President of the United States, recognized Guatemala’s leadership in addressing the migration issue since there have been opportunities to obtain temporary jobs in the U.S., Canada, Spain, and Mexico.

The delegates present were grateful for our country’s coordination of this event.

Recientemente, el ministro de Economía, Dr. Janio Rosales, sostuvo reuniones con representantes de la firma EVGarage, empresa del ramo automotriz, puesto que está interesada en iniciar labores en el territorio nacional, así como con ejecutivos de Pricesmart, donde se dio seguimiento al proyecto de expansión que ya se tiene en Guatemala.

También recibió a representantes de la Misión Comercial de Austria en Guatemala, de nueve compañías provenientes de los sectores de manufacturas, energía, construcción y salud, quienes desean invertir.

El presidente Alejandro Giammattei inauguró un encuentro latinoamericano, que se llevó a cabo en el país, y en donde se abordó la libertad de culto como un derecho fundamental.

La elección de credo “es una garantía para todas las personas, creyentes y no creyentes, y proteger esa facultad nos ayuda a construir la paz en nuestras naciones”, afirmó el mandatario durante su intervención.

Protección y respeto

También dijo que “Latinoamérica debe encontrar la forma para proteger” esa prerrogativa humana de inclinarse por una creencia y apostar para “convivir en una sociedad de respeto por personas cuyas conductas, valores y convicciones son diferentes a las nuestras”.

El dignatario resaltó que su administración se ha distinguido por respetar los valores más arraigados de la sociedad y por la integración de la Mesa Multirreligiosa, cuya primera reunión dirigió el 26 de abril de 2022 ante representantes de 24 religiones.

El encuentro se llevó a cabo en el marco del primer aniversario del Día por la Vida y la Familia, que se celebra el 9 de marzo y que fue establecido por el Decreto 9-2022.

Guatemala hosted a Latin American summit inaugurated by President Alejandro Giammattei to discuss freedom of worship as a fundamental right.

During his speech, the President stated that the choice of creed “is a guarantee for all people, believers, and non-believers, and protecting this right helps us build peace within our nations.”

Protection and respect

He also said that “Latin America must find a way to protect” that human prerogative of leaning towards a belief and striving to “live together in a society of respect for people whose behaviors, values and convictions are different from ours.”

He emphasized that his administration has distinguished itself by respecting society’s most deeply rooted values and by setting up a Multireligious Table, for which he led its first meeting on April 26, 2022, before representatives of 24 religions.

The summit took place in the framework of the first anniversary of the Day for Life and Family, celebrated on March 9 and established by Decree 9-2022.

La identidad guatemalteca se puede apreciar en los diferentes bailes folklóricos, que nos narran generalmente hechos históricos o ceremoniales. Estos son acompañados por el sonido de las flautas, caracoles, tun, chirimía, tzijolaj y la marimba; mientras sus danzantes visten majestuosos vestuarios, para transportarnos a su historia.

Cosmovisión

Varias de estas comienzan con procesos ceremoniales, donde se solicita permiso a los dioses; sin embargo, en cada puesta en escena transmiten la cosmovisión maya. Una de ellas es el baile Bat’z (mono) donde muestra el ciclo de los astros y cómo está conformado el año

maya, mientras que la danza Katz (serpiente) nos presenta la serpiente emplumada, una deidad maya o bien Xojoj Mö (guacamayas), la cual se realiza en honor del Sol; esta última se menciona en el Popol Vuh, así como en los relieves de las estelas.

Obras maestras

Una de los más conocidas es el Rabinal Achi’, donde se representa el juicio oral de K’iche’ Ach’, la cual es considerada una obra maestra de la Tradición Oral e Intangible de la Humanidad por la Unesco. Sin embargo, no es la única, puesto que La ConquistadeGuatemala,Danza del Torito o La legión de los 24 diablos son consideradas Patrimonio Cultural Intangible de la Nación. ¡Guatemala, asombrosa e imparable!

With dancers wearing majestic costumes accompanied by the sound of flutes, conch trumpets, tun, chirimía, tzijolaj, and marimba, the different folk dances convey the Guatemalan identity narrating historical or ceremonial events that transport us to their history.

Cosmovision

Several dances begin with a ceremonial process to request permission from the gods. However, they transmit the Maya cosmovision in every performance. One of them is the dance of Bat’z (monkey), which shows the cycle of the stars and how the formation of the Mayan

year. The dance of Katz (snake) presents the Maya deity of the feathered serpent. The dance of Xojoj Mö ( macaws) is performed in honor of the Sun and mentioned in the PopolVuh and reliefs of steles.

Masterpieces

One of the best-known dances is the RabinalAchi’, which represents the oral trial of K’iche’ Achi’ and is considered a masterpiece of the Oral and Intangible Tradition of Humanity by UNESCO. However, it is not the only one: the epic tale of TheConquestof Guatemala,theDanceoftheTorito,or theLegionofthe24Devils are considered an Intangible Cultural Heritage of the Nation. El refugio de nuestra ave símbolo, el quetzal

El Parque Regional Municipal San Rafael Pie de La Cuesta, conocido como Refugio del Quetzal, ubicado en San Marcos, es un área protegida donde podrá entrar en contacto con la naturaleza.

Uno de los puntos más atractivos de este lugar es el avistamiento del Quetzal, que muchos consideran un reto, puesto que debe ser paciente, estar en silencio y ubicar los diferentes nidos para dar con él.

Sin embargo, no es lo único que apreciará, pues posee 72 especies de árboles, 14 nacimientos de agua y unas 160 clases de aves residentes y migratorias.

Además, en su visita podrá prestar atención a tacuazines, gatos de monte, armadillos e

incluso yaguarundi, entre otras variedades.

Conservación

La Dirección Regional del Altiplano Occidental del Consejo Nacional de Áreas Protegidas (Conap) junto a los guardarrecursos de la Municipalidad de San Marcos han implementado diferentes acciones para apoyar la reproducción y conservación de esta ave. Una de ellas es la colocación de nidos artificiales, que ha dado como resultado una mayor población.

Asimismo, se han hecho diferentes monitoreos de la especie y capacitado a las comunidades cercanas para que se vele por la conservación de la misma. ¡Déjese sorprender por las maravillas que alberga Guatemala!

Our bird symbol’s refuge

Located in the department of San Marcos, the Municipal Park San Rafael Pie de La Cuesta, known as Refugio del Quetzal (The Quetzal’s Refuge), is a protected area where you can get in touch with nature.

One of the key attractions here is seeing the Quetzal, which many consider challenging; it requires patience, silence, and identifying the different nests. However, the Quetzal is one of many things to appreciate. The refuge is home to 72 species of trees, 14 water springs, and about 160 kinds of resident and migratory birds. In addition, you’ll also get a glimpse of

opossums, wild cats, armadillos, and even jaguarundis, among other varieties.

Conservation

CONAP’s Regional Office of the Western Highlands and the Municipality of San Marcos rangers have implemented various actions to support the reproduction and conservation of the bird. Among these, the placement of artificial nests has resulted in a larger population.

In addition, there have been different species monitoring methods and training provided for nearby communities to ensure conservation. Let yourself be surprised by the wonders Guatemala has to offer!

Ada Colocho, artista guatemalteca que combina el bordado, grabado y dibujo, expuso Apis Ferrugo, una colección elaborada con la técnica manual-artesanal.

En el texto curatorial se cita que mediante la investigación, observación y práctica de procesos, valiéndose de múltiples piezas de hierro, que generan óxido, la artista imprime en tela. En el proceso toma en cuenta fenómenos naturales como las fases de la luna, las estaciones del año, el clima, la temperatura, los cuales inciden en los resultados. Este estudio lo ha desarrollado durante aproximadamente una década.

Trascender

La creadora ha bordado con técnicas convencionales desde una edad temprana. Durante los últimos diez años estudió, experimentó y practicó por sus propios medios, técnicas de bordado a mano como el stumpwork, trapunto y bordados en 3D y appliqué.

“El singular enfoque artístico de Colocho le permite trascender los medios y cultivar una historia única. Su excepcional pericia en el bordado artístico y sus conocimientos de bordado, grabado y procesos autoinventados le permiten combinar hábilmente diversas técnicas para lograr creaciones singularmente cautivadoras”, expresó Waseem Syed, curador de la muestra.w

The Guatemalan artist Ada Colocho who combines embroidery, engraving, and drawing, exhibited her collection Apis Ferrugo, elaborated with a manual-craft technique.

According to the curatorial text, the artist researches, observes, and practices printing on canvas using multiple pieces of iron that generate rust. She also considers natural phenomena such as the moon’s phases, the seasons of the year, the weather, and the temperature, all of which affect the results. She has been developing this study for about a decade.

Transcending

From an early age, Ada embroidered with conventional techniques. For the past ten years, she studied, experimented, and practiced hand embroidery techniques such as stumpwork (also known as raised embroidery), trapunto (also called stuffing technique), 3D embroidery, and appliqué.

Recorra desde las alturas el Valle de San Buenaventura, Atitlán, Sololá, en bicicleta. Toda una aventura llena de adrenalina, puesto que dicho medio de transporte se encuentra suspendido a unos 18 metros de altura.

Una actividad donde deberá pedalear alrededor de 500 metros y en cuyo recorrido podrá apreciar el lago de Atitlán, así como los tres volcanes: Atitlán (3537 msnm), Tolimán (3158 msnm) y volcán San Pedro (3020 msnm). También pasará sobre un cafetal, un bosque, y si tiene suerte podrá observar monos hasta llegar a una pared de roca que se encuentra del otro lado del valle.

Las bicicletas dan inicio cada 15 minutos, desde las 9 horas; es una actividad segura, puesto que recibió la certificación europea y de Estados Unidos, la cual indica que cumple con las normas internacionales de seguridad.

In Atitlán, ride your bicycle suspended in the air over the San Buenaventura Valley. In this adventure full of adrenaline, your mean of transportation is suspended about 18 meters high.

Astonishing landscapes!

In this activity, you will have to pedal around 500 meters overlooking Lake Atitlán and three volcanoes: Atitlán (3537 MAMSL), Tolimán (3,158 MAMSL), and San Pedro (3,020 MAMSL); cycle over the coffee plantation and forest until you reach a rock wall on the other side of the valley. If you are lucky, you may even see monkeys.

The ride starts every 15 minutes, from 9:00 a.m. It’s an activity that has received European and United States certifications, indicating its compliance with international safety standards.

You can also do other extreme activities within the reserve, such as canopy, hanging bridges, and more. Enjoy the adventure, and get to know Guatemala!
