BIRTH OF A BOARD At some point a good idea just won't go away. When Badfish started, we were thigh deep in ideas. Some faded, but others survived to become hand-shaped, garage-built river boards, critical safety gear like the Re'leash™ and eventually a paddleboard company with a full quiver of boards. A few years in, the idea of a multi-day, self-support adventure bubbled up – and that slightly mad idea needed a stand-up paddle board to match. The board had to be big enough to hold a week's worth of gear and food, and sleek enough to paddle for hours into a relentless headwind. Every year since then has involved a new version of that board paddled into further-away wild places to make sure everything about it was just right. But it wasn't until this spring that we knew that this incarnation, the Selfie 14, was ready. It paddled amazingly well through frigid, swollen Colorado rivers. It loaded and balanced just right. And the farther it took us from cell phones and traffic lights, the bigger the pay-off. Sometimes when an idea wont go away, it just has to be shared – like a Selfie.

IRS
Unlike taxes, the IRS (Inflatable River Surfer) is all about fun. Since we introduced it a few years ago, more people have learned to river surf on the IRS than any other SUP on the market. Reworked for 2018, the IRS builds and improves on this classic design without sacrificing what has made the IRS the “gateway board” of choice for so many river surfers. Anyone who's ridden an egg shape on a surf trip knows its incredible versatility: the longboard ease of catching waves, the shortboard performance of riding them. The Wavo is the Badfish take on the classic ocean shape but for river surfing. Sitting between the IRS and the Inflatable SK8, the Wavo rides like a shortboard with added volume that delivers in smaller or flatter waves allowing a range of riders to get more out of their local wave. Even a legend needs a little makeover once in a while. The board that became the standard for all other river surfing SUP’s was refreshed in 2018. With a single wing swallow tail, the River Surfer 2.0 maintains its volume to surf effectively in river waves, but a narrower tail allows it to turn harder and tighter.
