Surf trip in yorkshire Being a surfer in Britain can definitely have its disadvantages from time to time. Apart from getting frost bite every time you hit the water, driving endless amounts of miles searching for waves and having to settle with messy 2ft surf, putting cold wetsuits on in freezing temperatures during the winter months, and having to pay ridiculous amounts of money on parking metres, We still find ourselves hitting the water every year braving the harsh conditions of an English winter. After all, every surfer knows exactly why we find ourselves in the water every time there’s a swell brewing on the weather charts.

Being a surf photographer it’s sometimes hard to separate you from being a surfer and a photographer. You have to be able to make the decision to be in or out of the water, which is sometimes a very hard decision when the surf is pumping. Surf photography is definitely the essence is surf magazines. You can talk and write about surf trips but the best stories are passed down through the photography.
“With 5 of us going and 2 cars between us it looked like it was going to be a very cramped journey”
Surf trip in yorkshire Most people don’t even know what we do how we do it or even care. Been a surfer in England can sometimes feel like a lonely existence as it’s not mainstream or popular. I like to think of surfers as a group of people who are unique in the fact that they take part in this amazing sport along our coastline and that hopefully one day more people will experience the true beauty of surfing.
“When I was younger I used to go on family holidays to Newquay and body board a little bit or surf big foam boards. When I got a bit older I picked up a copy of Three Sixty and the pictures in there blew me away, I knew instantly I wanted to get that good!” – John Pullan
