Offshore wind farms play a critical role in reducing CO2 emissions and combating climate change. However, the scale of offshore wind projects also introduces substantial embedded CO2 emissions in the short term, potentially affecting global climate stability.

The solution: Balancing green energy with low CO2 emissions

To address this challenge, NIRAS has engaged in the STROWIN project, alongside Matrisk GmbH and Aalborg University, with support from the EU Erasmus+ Program, the Danish Innovation Foundation, and the Swiss Research Council. The STROWIN initiative aims to revolutionise the design and integrity management of offshore wind turbine structures, focusing on costefficiency and minimising CO2 emissions.

NIRAS course of action

By leveraging technologies such as Structural Health Monitoring, Digital Twins, and RiskInformed Approaches to structural integrity management, STROWIN seeks to optimise the balance between design, maintenance, and service life extensions of offshore wind turbines. Our research focuses on managing structural deterioration, particularly fatigue crack growth, to extend the service life of wind turbines effectively.

We are excited to announce the successful completion of the STROWIN project. We have developed cutting-edge tools now available to industry professionals, simplifying the management of offshore wind structures without the need for further specialisation.

3. STROWIN software module integration: STROWIN is also available as a software module that can be easily integrated into your own systems. With this model, a moderate fee is applied for each use of the STROWIN module, allowing for flexible and scalable use.
