From February to April Edition Welcome to the third edition of the A-Loc Mag,The best local lifestyle, Fashion and Entertainment magazine. We have made a decision to change the coverage period of the A-loc mag from backwards to covering the month in advance. This means that instead of having the March issue released on the first of April, we will now have the April issue released on the first of April. This will enable us to give you coverage of events and issues which are more recent and upcoming instead of covering the past events. Enjoy reading our magazine and always keep in touch with us via our Facebook page. We are positive that this decision will make the A-Loc Mag more relevant in the sense that we will include more content based on the future so as to try and enable our readers to take action on relevant issues covered here within. How-ever the only change you will notice is that we have skipped the month of March to cover the month of April in order to initiate the plan. The month of March will also be covered but the main focus will be placed on events and issues in April. Essentially we currently have three issues released including this one.

Percy Mukwevho was born on the 5th of January. This young muso hails from a family of musicians, so being a musician is in his roots, blood and life. He is the first born son of the world renowned artist Colbert Harley Mukwevho and also a grandson and nephew of Christopher and Abel Mukwevho respectively, these are the founders of the famous Thrilling Artist band. You might remember him as “little Percy”, who captured many hearts after his performance in Jam Alley back in the days and from a collaboration he did with a then Kwaito child star Mzambiya on a song called For the love of Kwaito in 2002 at a tender age of
07
13 years. His unique pure voice made it hard for many to ignore him, it captured his fellow youth and fell smoothly on everyone’s ear regardless of his age. This afforded him the opportunity to work with many of South Africa’s greatest musicians like Mandoza, Chicco Twala, Mdu Masilela, Vicky Sampson, Yvonne Chakka Chakka just to mention a few. He has released a number of albums, the first one being ‘‘Here I am’’ in 2001, where he featured his father’s youngest brother Mulalo Mukhevho who is a base guitarist. However the release of his second album Spectacular 2003 gained him a lot more popularity.
Nativo …Entertainment… On that album he featured the likes of Mzambiya and Kguntsi from the all girl trio School Girls. The once predicted icon has now returned to the public platform of music. While out of the public music platform he has continued performing in his father’s band as a backing vocalist. Those who have been hardcore loyal fans have followed him throughout his teenage years and into early manhood. There is no doubt that his up and coming album has been long overdue and is awaited with great anticipation. As usual we will review a video by P-Post Man titled ‘‘Got you all ready’’. I have always known that p-post man is good but this video made it hard for me to cap the word good. I mean the video is beyond the definition of just good. It was well directed and captured. He is saying ‘‘its official I am an issue on your front page’’ and I think so too. Watch the video to see what I mean and hey, he is the issue on the a-loc mag front page.

It is your Career so take charge 09
its my Future IT IS VERY IMPORTANT TO ENSURE THAT THE CAREER YOU CHOOSE TO FOLLOW IS THE CAREER THAT IS IN LINE WITH WHAT YOU LIKE AND ENJOY DOING .Thus your career choice must represent who you are!! If you're looking to start a career - whether it's because you're just beginning your journey as a working adult or because you're ready for a change in life - you should know that the process is much larger than just getting a degree and looking for a job. A career involves knowing your interests in a particular industry or area, knowing what to expect as far as compensation and responsibilities and researching what tools and knowledge you will need to be an asset for companies in that industry. It's wise to begin your pursuit by educating yourself on what careers are in demand and what skills you need to enter those careers. Job seekers and students seeking a degree to build their skills need to take control of their careers," says Abby Kohut, a human resources executive, recruiter and author of "Absolutely Abby's 101 Job Search Secrets." "They need to understand the connection between their education and a meaningful career by becoming more informed about where their interests lie, what jobs are in demand and what education is needed to gain the skills that today's employers demand." Here are few simple steps that can help to get you started: 1. Understand your interests - Some colleges and universities offer prospective and current students complimentary self-assessment options to help them determine careers that fit their interests. 2. Understand the employer needs Knowing what jobs will keep your interest going strong is a good start, but it is also important to learn.

what employers need from workers in that field so you can take the right college courses and learn the appropriate skills. You also should learn what jobs are in demand in your field of interest, so you can assess whether your career of choice offers room to enter and grow 3. Understand educational needs - Starting a new career often involves the need to return to school for a new degree so you can be more competitive when entering the job market 4. Understand your financial responsibilities Schools will provide information on financial obligations and options, helping potential students determine if starting or going back to school is a viable option at the moment. Having a clear picture of the total cost and anticipated timing for paying off a college expense can help you set a budget as you pursue your new career goals A new career is an exciting opportunity, and can provide a new look on life from income to social connections and even where you live. Just be sure to educate yourself before you jump into schooling so you can prepare yourself for the perfect career.

Getting in touch with the awesome Puleng March as she takes us through her life journey as well as her acting and music careers. A-Locmagazine had the opportunity to talk to the humble and down to earth yet successful young musician/ actor by the name of Puleng March. This young and dynamic lady started singing years back and her music career was highlighted back in 2007 when she won two metro Fm Music Awards, one for the best new comer in that year and the other one for the best female vocalist. This to her was a good inspiration.

Her album titled Thaba Tsoeu was also nominated for the SAMAs. During this period Puleng was an afro pop artist and her album was also based on this genre. She then made a holly turn into the gospel music and today she boost a gospel hit song titled “Motho mang le mang. This hit tune is also part of the much awaited release by one of the most celebrated and loved gospel group in the southern Africa and abroad, the Joyous Celebration. This is the group to which puleng currently belongs and her experience in the group is according to her a wow one . Last year her acting career took her to Singapore where she took up a role playing the lead character in one of the world’s biggest broadway show, The Lion king. In the show she was playing the lead character named Nala. This also highlighted her career and also geared her for good things. Being a young person from Kimberly in the Northern Cape,it was not easy for Puleng to get into the entertainment industry. However having a good and relevant role model may claim attribution stake for her success. A strong and independent

woman is her role model and this woman is her Mom. Puleng is currently not happy because of the alarming rate of woman and child abuse in Southern Africa. She believe that we need more anti rape campaigns as well as preaching the rape gospel in our churches , Schools and clubs. By so doing we will reduce the rape rate significantly. As fo the young people in South Africa her advice is not just to dream and have a vision in life but to also pray and ask for guidance from the almighty. This hardworking young lady is a clear example that to make it big you do not need to be rude or un friendly like what many folks believe.

of the people don’t realise that they express themselves through what they wear. Simply put, we go to a shop, see something we like, something that we feel comfortable in and decide to make a purchase transaction. We don’t always take into consideration colours or fabric or how that particular item came into being. Today, I bring you into the mind of Marisela Veludo,The owner and the principal designer at Passion 4 Fashion. Let me introduce you to the new range of clothing by Passion 4 Fashion: The Eclectic Line What does this mean? What is this word eclectic? Eclectic from Wikipedia means deriving ideas, style or taste from a broad and diverse range of sources. Urban Dictionary’s take on this is very similar: This describes a combination of many different individual elements of styles, themes, mediums or inspirations pooled from many sources. It can refer to musical tastes, dress sense, interior design etc. Inspiration comes from things around us; Marisela owns 2 parrots, which are from the Solomon Islands. They are called Solomon Island Eclectus Parrots. From this, inspiration struck and a way to express her fashion came from the very pets she owns.

CIZARIO Cizario is simply one of South Africa’s most underrated artists. He has proved this in previous years when he made television headlines doing well in popular talent shows like Idols South Africa, Popstars, Gospel Stars and other T.V shows. He reached finals for all these shows. He is certainly not your typical bad boy kind of a guy, girl magnet, bubblegum, RnB, kind of artist, but is very soul infested and real in his sound. Cizario studied classical vocals at University of Fort Hare in 2008, and he also writes his own songs. Some of Cizario’s interests are singing, drama and acting, songwriting, theatre, writing jingles, community development, imitating and pretending with personalities, fashion, cultures, dancing and stage performances, vocal training and voice overs. Cizario made his national debut on television appearing as a finalist in the ever-popular Idols S.A in association with Endemol Productions, Cizario was featured in an Edgars ad to promote and market Hip new clothing brands for Superstars.Cizario has also endorsed other local brands like Fizz, Explain Designer clothing and Just Surfing, in the Daily Dispatch newspaper in which he appeared regularly during his Idols journey. As a teenager, Cizario achieved 1st place in a national youth day talent search in 1999 out of 1224 auditioned. In 2007 to 2009, Cizario toured and performed in small towns and schools with his classic boy band “Your Own” in the Eastern Cape as a youth development initiative. Cizario has done one on one vocal training with the likes of Marlie Kelly, and Gwyneth, and Abey Sibiya, who are all declared some of the best in the business. He has been an Ambassador for the national K.T.V market day alongside other popular singers at the time, educating teenagers on using skills and talents as a means of business. When Cizario achieved semi finals position in Idols S.A, (2003) D.J Master Jam and Sheree O’brien who is now artist manager at Soul Candi Records signed him as a performer under their artist management company. At the Buffalo city municipality carnival, Cizario was a backing vocalist for Afro- soul artist Sliq Angel.
26
Cizario has done opening shows for the artists like Bongi Dube, Zama Jobe, Kelly Khumalo, Judith Sephuma, Dineo Pule, Robbie Jansen, Bianca Le Grange and more.Cizario featured with Joyous celebration singer Nobathembu and afro jazz artist Dumza at a gala evening held in East London for prestigious business people to launch new business projects in the Buffalo City area.Cizario discovered his neyo-soul genre after he achieved a top 9 position in the S.A.B.C 2 Gospel Stars contest, where he worked closely with Rebbeca malope, and Abey Sibiya as his music producers and vocal coach, and it was after this that he discovered his own true sound.

How much thought do you put into the outfits your wear on a daily basis? Are you like some many of us that have honed things down to a general daily uniform? Perhaps you have a weekend version and a work version? Or are you more daring and adventurous with your style choices. Lately I have been thinking a lot about my clothes and how they can affect my attitude for the day, and about what my style choices say about me. It’s fascinating to me that wearing a ‘hot-number’ will make any girl strut down the street with a confidence and sophistication of a young noble, while a pair of jeans and an ironic t-shirt will have anyone ready for “chill session” in the city. Fashion has such a huge influence on us, without us noticing! I personally don’t put that much effort in the evening into what I’ll wear the next morning, as long as I can find a good cut of pants and graphic t-shirt with some retro slogan or image on it I’m good to go, while some people would like their clothes to make a bold statement and reflect a little on their personality. Recently, I straddled the wide open spaces of a very predictable and often slow paced Bloemfontein which when compared to the more upbeat, bustling and quite frankly obnoxious atmosphere in Johannesburg, one cannot help but notice the enormous amount of detail that goes into the appearance of the locals. Daring displays of colour and adventurous uses of fabrics, with over the time presentation of designs and heavily coordinated accessorizes. Outfits so bold and unique they would rival anything shown on the runways of
28
What I’ve noticed about fashion is how it changes society’s perception of style and appearance. Many are willing to go to extreme measures in order to keep up with current trends. It’s fascinating the attention to detail that goes into every little button, belt, and any accessory never mind the depth displayed as everyone strives to show the individual status through their attire. The trends themselves seem lop sided, we went from natural colours to colour blocking; gold was cool, then it faded and resurfaced again; leather pants are back in style and men can wear skirts now; you can even raid your grandparents closet if you don’t have any options, the quest for ultimate expression is both never ending and could cost you if you aren’t careful.Thrift shops have recently become popular as people began realizing that paying anything above R250 for a t-shirt was just plain daylight robbery, you don’t have break your bank account to achieve true style. Bargain base shopping is the new 5th avenue where finding something odd or peculiar is more rewarding then how much you spent on or the brand name.
‘‘Fashion is an art form and you can find art virtually anywhere, it’s all in how and where you look’’ Men’s fashion has also enjoyed an evolution, no longer do men have to be bound by social norms or gender appropriate roles or stereotypes. Men can now wear skirts, big hoop earrings, head wraps, short shorts.
We’ve even have purses, bags clutch wallets for the more sophisticated uptown brother on the go. Men's fashion has crossed some very deeply set boundaries to become more flexible to the average man who wants to stand out amongst the crowd. So whether you’re the kind of person that likes to dress up or down, there’s no denying that when it comes to self-expression, fashion is the one sure way of showing the world your personal taste, believes and personal definition of ‘awesome’!Personally I don’t really buy into all of that, as I said earlier a good pair of pants, graphic tee, comfy pair of shoes and I’m ready for a meeting with the queen of England. It’s good to be up on the latest of trends but don’t forget to keep it simple

The Views of the Designer 1.What does fashion mean to you Fashion to me is a way of living coz everyone wears clothes so depending on how you feel on the day, will determine what you’ll wear
2. What does fashion and freedom means to u? Fashion is also a way of expressing yourself I can tell a lot about a person from what they are wearing, fashion says who you are and what you stand for or believe in. So freedom and fashion go hand in hand coz my brand speaks through fashion from whatever that’s bothering us to the massage we are trying to deliver
3. Looking in the fashion industry whom do u perceive the best fashion designer I really don’t have a favorite designer I have a long list of them from your underdogs to commercial designers, a garment a designer produces says a lot tells you a story the designer is trying to portray, its deeper than the designer to me I see beyond that
4. What can u say about 1970's 1980's 1990's fashion The 70s, 80s, 90s fashion now those where the best years coz people were opening up everything was still fresh quality was best and people took they’re fashion serious, that’s why fashion keeps going back to those years coz we honor those that set the bar and paved way for us so our work could be recognized and taken seriously

5. How would you define your city's fashion My cities fashion is all over the place for now but we are catching on and finding our own voice that’s the most important thing coz I don’t believe in following what’s happening out there specially with the rich heritage my city has so I focus on that a lot me being from Orlando west Soweto and that’s where freedom comes in coz we’ve got so much to say and be grateful for
6. How long does it usually take you to construct a piece? Depends what piece it is, it can take me an hour or two, a day or even months depending on how creative we are going on the garment
7. What was the first article of clothes you ever designed The first design I made was a shirt coz I felt it was one of the ways I thought will give people an idea of what direction I want to go and what my brand is all about
8. What are you favourite fabrics to work with and why? Well I believe every fabric has its own use if you don’t know what goes where and sometimes trying to cross the boundary might get you into trouble some things are just plain simple, my favorite to work with at the moment cotton twiller but depending on the session
Bongani Caluza
9. How do u feel about freedom and fashion? What I think about freedom and fashion is that one can’t live without the other they go hand in glove
10. What are your favourite colours I’m in love with earthy colors, they don’t run with time and when you get them right it becomes a master piece. my brand colors are brown and white, gold and silver the reason why will be revealed as you learn more about the brand
11. What can u tell about the meaning of colours?
35
Colors are very meaning full in whatever you do, a garment can be destroyed by just wrong colors and a garment says a lot with the right colors, colors have a lot of meanings

oung and aggressive,
This is the best way to describe the young South African fashion designer Zakhele Xumalo from Soweto.I mean take a look at the picture on the background. Raw as it is,one cannot miss the true mzanzi style all over the shot. I like it. This is just an example of the design work done by Vicious Souls, a clothing brand owned by Zakhele. Countless recognition awards found their way into the VS studios Including the one from the Young Designers competition powered by The cell phone giant Nokia. Do you remember Tkzee’s hit song Sdudla? Vicious Souls took part in dressing the lead girls there. Really impressive. They have also dressed Miss teen Soweto, and have also supplied the Concept stores such as Thesis and Dope.
