Beautifully copper plate map (48x32cm) of Greece and the Aegean with the waved impression on sea areas. Text in German on reverse. One of the most “classic” maps of “modern” Greece. It is the same cartographic plate with the map rst issued by Mercator in 1589, with di erent title cartouche. Decorative cartouche, sailing ship and elaborate engraving style. Wide margins. Small tears along middle-fold, light spotting and soiling, worm-holes on lower part of margin. Zacharakis 2213, Zacharakis “One Hundred Landmarks..” 30A.

Decorative title cartouche framed with two mythical gures holding scienti c instruments. Self adhesive tape reinforcing middle-fold on verso, leaving light brown signs on the front of the map. Early lithographic maps, 54x41cm each. Published in 1827, in a critical moment of the Greek Revolution, when the rst discussions for a modern Greek State had started. Folded in linen, some very light spotting. In original publisher’s case entitled “Voyage de la Grece par F. G. – H. – L. Pouqueville / Cartes de la Grece / Paris, Firmin Didot Pere et Fils, 1827”. Lot. 8445 Starting Price: 170 € Barthelemy, J.J, (Abbe), “Voyage du Jeune Anacharsis en Grece - ATLAS”, Paris, Etienne Ledoux, 1821. An edition printed at the eve of the Greek Revolution, COMPLETE with all the 39 plans and views included. Barthélemy studied the works of Greek and Roman authors relying also on the well-documented investigations of J. Foucherot and Choiseul-Gou er, made on the spot. In the atlas he includes accurate representations of the most important locations and battle elds, with all the maps designed by the eminent French cartographer and engraver, Ambroise Tardieu. Ex libris label & cachet on title page. Contemporary binding: full leather – spine decorated in gilt. External wear along extremities, joints and covers. Internal light spotting.
