SANSON, “Graeciae Antiquae tabula geographica… MDCXCIV / F. Bertin sculp.”, printed only once in “Tabulae geographicae” ed. Seminario Vescovile, 1699, bearing the date 1694 on title. Impressive and rare map of Greece and the Grecian Archipelagos (54x42cm with full margins) presenting ancient toponyms. Decorative title cartouche framed with two mythical figures holding scientific instruments. Self adhesive tape reinforcing middle-fold on verso, leaving light brown signs on the front of the map. Otherwise a fine strong impression. Zacharakis 3154.
One of the most “classic” maps of “modern” Greece. It is the same cartographic plate with the map first issued by Mercator in 1589, with different title cartouche. Decorative cartouche, sailing ship and elaborate engraving style. Wide margins. Small tears along middle-fold, light spotting and soiling, worm-holes on lower part of margin.
