01

ARCHITECTURAL SURVEY|

Casa Fuster - Building Engineering (Bachelor’s Thesis)

About an architectural survey of the Casa Fuster. Graphic representation of the three facades of what once was one of the most prestigious houses from the modernist Barcelona. Built by Domènech i Montaner, it was a pleasure drawing one of his works. I took it as a personal challenge and drew it with Adobe Illustrator and AutoCAD. I had almost never used Illustrator and it was a great practice.

02

WORK ON A CONCRETE STRUCTURE|

Basic Design I - Architecture (1st year)

The program of this project was really open. There was a concrete structure lying by the river and we had to whatever we wanted with the purpose to bring some life to the area. I chose to do an open space, playing with thin concrete and wood planes to create a multiactivity space where one could go to a yoga class or go read a book to hang out with friends.

03

TOWNHOME COMPLEX IN BAGÀ|

Design I - Architecture (2nd year)

Design a townhome complex in BagĂ using bays with Le Modulor measures. I used the central bay to shelter the living room, the kitchen and the studio while relegating the side bays to shelter a dinning room in one side and a bedroom on the other side. The top floor contained a library and was over the living room.

04

CENTER FOR HISTORICAL STUDIES|

Design I - Architecture (2nd year)

The program of this project was to build in height using a framework, again with Le Modulor measures. It had to connect two levels from each side of the building. I used the ground floor to give the town some shaded space and to the building some fine entrance. The first floor contained a library while the second one holded classrooms to study. The third and last floor was a gift to the town with a bar with large views over the roofs.

05

RIVERSIDE BAR|

Design I - Architecture (2nd year)

Consisted in designing a bar on the first floor with a kindergarten on the ground floor using slabs and again Le Modulor measurements. I used round concrete pilars and slabs to create and open space surrounded by glass which gave the costumers large views over the river. The kindergarten was built inside some existing old walls. I just covered half of it to hold two classrooms and the rest was open to give the kids some views of the sky.

06

RESIDENCE FOR THE ELDERLY|

Design II - Architecture (2nd year)

Given a large area to build in, the project consisted in designing a residence for the elderly in BagĂ . I used two types of rooms, individual and double bedrooms and introduced cottage type buildings with a wall in front of the landscape with windows to frame it and create a scene.

07

TOWNHALL|

Design II - Architecture (2nd year)

Replace the existing townhall with a new one in the center square of BagĂ . I used a butterfly deck to separate the building in two parts, the outer one holded the plenary hall and was more public while the inner one holded the offices and had a more private character.

08

CITY ANALYSIS|

Urban Design II - Architecture (2nd year)

Analysis of different cities and districts, heights, vials, streets, building typologies... The following are from Salamanca, Barri de GrĂ cia and Barri de Poblenou (both from Barcelona) respectively.

09

HOUSE REPRESENTATION|

Architectural Representation II - Architecture (2nd year)

We were given plans and sections as well as facades from different buildings and we had to redraw using AutoCAD and then build a 3D model of them. Casa Luque was drawn and modelled using AutoCAD itself while Casa Abad was modelled using Autodesk Revit. The results are pretty different to be honest and I used different software to compare them.

10

DAY AND NIGHT RENDERING|

Architectural Representation III - Architecture (3rd year)

In the first two pictures, we had to pick a picture which included some double height interior and model and render it using 3D Studio Max. The second pictures belong to another part of the course where we had to imagine and build a 3D model of a square and render it again using 3DS Max.

11

5500M2_200P|

Design III - Architecture (3rd year)

This exercise consited in designing a 5500m2 building for 200 people. This must include flats for 1 and 2 people of 30 and 45m2 respectively and apartments for whole families of 4. The building was in the Barri del Raval (Barcelona). I used a solution of building a dynamic facade which gave live to the street which was quiet and dead. The building was structured with 2 parts, one held the apartments while the other one held mostly the smaller apartments. Both volumes followed the lines of the existing plots.

12

HOUSE FOR AN ARTIST|

Design IV - Architecture (3rd year)

The program of this project was based on building a house for an artist, which must include a workshop, housing for 5 students and a family house for the sharecroppers. My house was built for Evru. After studying him, an artist which has been held in a mental hospital, I got the idea that the complex had to be an absolute chaos, with no right angles and of difficult understanding but functional.

13

DESIGN OF A STREET|

Urban Design III - Architecture (3rd year)

The whole class was divided in three, each group taking one of the three streets to design. We were given a topographic map which we used to draw the first sketches of the street. After that, they gave us the real topography with the existant houses so the form had to change a bit. Finally, we had to join the three streets to create a ring. My street had to worm through steep landscapes, so I used this in my favour and built it with balconies to admire the natural beauty of the place.

14

HOUSING COMPLEX|

Urban Design IV - Architecture (3rd year)

Given a location in Vilafranca del Penedès, we had to design a housing complex that fulfilled the requirements. I followed some existing lines of the fields to structure the main lines of the project. From here, I used U shaped isles to create interior private/public spaces and have more diversity. The buildings decreased their height when they got close to the vineyards to give them more views and not create a big impact on the existing landscape.

15

CATALONIA NATIONAL LIBRARY|

Design V - Architecture (4th year)

The program for this project was to rehabilitate an old airplane engine factory based in Barcelona in order to engage the catalan National Library inside. I took a volume from the old factory and extruded vertically to give the users a more silent and private space while granting them great views over the Besòs river and over the whole library without being seen. I organized the ground level with house style boxes where activities could be held inside.

16

WORKING ON A SCHOOL|

Summer job

Summer 2015. I got to work on a school and help them rehabilitate and reform some parts of it.

17

WORKING ON A FLAT|

Summer job

Summer 2015. Got to manage the comprehensive reform of a small flat in Barcelona.

18

PHOTOGRAPHY|

Amateur Photography

Some pictures I took from the last trips.

Architecture is not only about projects, designs and buildings. Architecture is living, is travelling, is knowing places and people and this is what I’m trying to do. I’m proud of my works, some more than others, but I’ve improved a lot in these years of studying the art of architecture. I’m looking for more experience, places where i can learn and bathe myself in knowledge, because one doesn’t learn architecture for staying at home.

Get up. Get out. Live.
