WELCOME TO THE NEW WORLD - INTERNATIONAL ART GROUP SHOW 2022

Penulis : Bambang Prasadhi

WELCOMING A NEW WORLD The two-year pandemic has made us realise that our lives are truly fragile. Furthermore it is shocking to know that the pandemic, ultimately may have been caused by irresponsible human activities. In is unfathomable that the covid-19 virus, a mere microns smaller than a dust particle, is able to penetrate all human existence across the world, blurring boundaries of countries, race, creed and nationalities. The insidious virus completely devastated human life on earth. The world became borderless as each country was forced to work together to find solutions, not just for humanitarian reasons, but also to salvage social, economic, political and cultural devastation. Lockdowns became a norm and the once vibrant lifestyle everyone was used to become quiet, moving us to an isolated and increasingly digital space which forever changed the order of human life globally. Now that the pandemic is eventually heading towards recovery mode, life on earth is slowly picking up in a rhythmic wave but the unpredictability however still lingers. Therefore, it takes a new kind of awareness to navigate a world, where the need to let go of the egocentric attributes in world relation is vital and hence moving towards accepting a new world that embraces pluralism and the beauty and peace it brings with it. Plurality is strength and through ART advocacy, it will enable us to move towards this pluralistic spirit to rebuild our world, to be more inclusive. Therefore, ART plays a pivotal role not just in nation building but also to bring the human race together across the world. Edited by Rekha Menon

With her creative background and growing passion, she is skillful in her painting techniques. My painting subjects covers a wide scope ranging from patterns, sceneries, nature and still life. I feel free happy and inspired the moment I held a pencil in my hand. I started with Sketching with my pencil later upgraded to charcoal. That’s my favourite medium. Today I held a brush and smear paint on my canvas. Apart from charcoal today I love oil & Acrylic medium too. My quest is to be recognized and accepted as an artist. This journey continues...........

I am a Diploma holder in Fashion and Textile Designing, graduated from Malaysian Institute of Art(MIA) in 1999, and a self trained artist with more than 22 years of experience in various related field. Art and craft have been a huge part of my life and what I love to do since childhood. I grow up with it. I made crafts out of anything recyclable and shapable or deformable. I paint and draw on any surface. Be it on walls, glass, wood, fabrics or even on body and face, other than paper and canvas. I love to upcycle and recycle unused items ranged from trash and also from the nature and make them into sculptures such as lights or a piece of functional art piece. Besides doing painting, I have recently started to write stories as I have started building up some of the characters that I have painted in 2015. Hopefully I could find time to speed up the writing and illustrations soon. Being in the Fashion and Textile industry since 1996, I have always been attracted and inspired by texture, nature and culture, and I am always interested in observing human nature. As I grow up, experience have eventually mold me into an introvert most of the time, and my deep thoughts and slightly poetic self is how I silently express best through my work. At the same time, being an observant person, I’m always attracted to textures and details, and tend to put in a lot of thoughts and details in my work. I always love to create and practice versatility in a lot of things I do, be daring enough just to step out of my comfort zone to experience and challenge myself to try and learn new things or even try to create new method, experiment new way of doing things, so I could find something I can work and express myself best and comfortable with, and at the same time bring joy to people through my expressions in my work, inspire them to think and explore. I strongly believe in myself, believe in my dreams, big or small, they can be brought to reality with creativity, enthusiasm and faith in anything I could work on.

Ambika Chadha is a mixed-media abstract painter based out of Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Her life was turned upside down by the COVID-19 pandemic, along with the rest of the world. Having been a Yoga teacher for a decade before this, Ambika coped during this transformative time by turning inwards, and found a new skill and practice that soothed her soaring anxieties – the creation of intuitive, layered art pieces. An expressive, creative and nurturing soul, Ambika’s new trajectory as an artist has been a natural calling. Her paintings are reflective of a rich & nuanced creative free-flow, each one guided by her intuition – Ambika paints and creates as she feels. Mainly done on textured materials such as Jute, Cotton and Canvas, she employs bold application of colours and mark-making with undiluted acrylic and oil paints. Each work takes a week to make , instead it’s a month or 2 to make .

DATO LUCIANO MIRRI

Tel: +6012 218 8301 Email: mirridesign@yahoo.com

Luciano Mirri’s art in architecture and painting has almost always dealt with geometry. His intensely personal language has a profoundly peotic style that reveals an artistic, intellectual work that transfigure the perception of things and events from their real aspect, transferring the compositional calligraphy in an evocative and symbolic dimension. Mirri borrowed from the great architect Louis Khan the idea of “order”: as in most classical theories, artistic value judgments are based on an aesthetic expression. This means that beauty as an expressive value that structures what is beautiful, harmonious, sublime, must precede the recognition of the values expressed in an artwork. These artworks contain aesthetic value even before an aesthetic form: in this lies the link between the concept of order and the work, architecture or painting.

Alessia Donà was born in Padua, Italy, in 1984. Abstract artist, she loves to experiment mixed techniques, media and bold colors. Although her past life took different paths, she never abandoned her great passion for art, which continued alongside her brilliant career in the Retail. Making art represents for her a way of expressing herself, relaxing and freeing her mind, which gradually switch into a desire to help others regaining energy and face life positively. In 2019, the Piumaneralab project was born from this need. Alessia creates art with motivational phrases in abstract calligraphic style using a handcrafted cola pen, sumi ink, stain, and watercolors. She created her first commissioned works and realized a capsule collection of bookmarks inspired by Japanese Omamori for Inchiostro and Paper, an Italian company of stationery. In 2021 she decided to follow her husband, quit her company job and moved to Kuala Lumpur. Starting again from zero represents for her a phase of growth and inner introspection that gives her the impetus to totally focus on art. Teeming with ideas and with an extreme desire to experiment, she moves her first steps in surface design and creates abstract art ranging from acrylics, oil, watercolors, inks to collage and material painting. She doesn't want to set herself any limit. Although she often wears in black and white, her works are an explosion of colors. Her mission is to convey positivity, strength and bring a touch of color to people's lives.

Class of 1958, I have spent the first years of my life between Brazil, where I was born, and Argentina before moving to Rome Italy. By the end of 1990 I have permanently settled in Malaysia where I took on painting in 2014 attending classes at the MIA institute of arts and learning from different artists in Malaysia and Bali, Indonesia, such as Wolfgang Widmoser. A fair bit of my learning is self-taught, and I generally get busy with whatever inspires my observational curiosity. I work mostly with oil and acrylic on canvas and wood and my style includes various elements of modern, pop and cubism. I take great inspiration from David Hockney work. I like to call the style of my work “magical realism”. I generally get busy inspired by either real life, other artists work or photography. Moods are central to the choice of the subject, so it has a lot to do with my different emotional states. A permanent vacillation between abstract and figurative. I am drowned by lines and colour. Sometimes I see clearly, some other times I am caught in a tangle of lines, shapes, light, and shades. Often, the result of my work is something rather different from what I originally had in mind. Even though I draw and sketch and do studies I mostly end up diverting and straying from those guidelines. It comes a point when sticking to them feels like being straight jacked. I like to think of them as a departing point rather than a specific itinerary to follow. It comes a point when the inner, deepest part of me needs to prevail over those set lines. I never know what it will come out, and I never know till the end whether I will like it or not. With my work I wish to inspire considered thoughts and touch whoever looks at it, sensibilizing them on existential as much as social issues.
