PLACE
The Barr Smith Library is the main library of the University of Adelaide, situated in the centre of the North Terrace campus. This library is of red brick with classical freestone dressing,
The pavilion site locates on the Maths Lawns, in front of the Barr Smith Library's East elevation, between the Braggs Lecture Theatre and the Mathematics Building, The referred Lawns is an open area and passengers can get access to it from all around.

Adelaide has a Mediterranean climate with warm, sunny weather for most of the year. Annual sunshine hours are high, at over 2,500 hours.
In the daytime, the sun will cast shadows on the road. In the nighttime, there will be reflection on the glass windows of the Braggs Lecture Theater light and the Mathematics Building.

LUMINOSITY Luminosity is the state or quality of being luminous. Two key words related to luminosity are transparency and translucnet. Transparency is the state or quality of being clear or thin enough to see through; and translucent is semitransparent, allowing light to pass through partially or diffusely.

Originally, light has been closely associated with creation, sacredness and almighty. Light and representations of light such as candles, flames were common symbols of Christianity: God is light; in him there is no darkness at all(1 John 1:5,NIV). Latter on, the meaning of light got extented, as the Englightenment of the late 17th and 18th centuries witnessed science blossomed and revolutions in the United States and France occurred. There was growing support for individual liberties and freedoms, and burgeoning interest in using science to explain natural phenomena. Light started to be associated with truth, and knowledge.
In Zaha Hadid's projects, light closes the gap between architecture and people's imagnation. She put luminous lines in the ceiling of the Vitra Fire Station (1993) to reinforce the linear architecture with sharp edges. Light here became a way to show guidence; The Phaeno Science Centre(2005) marked Hadid's transition to fluid design. Encompassing both daylight and artificial lighting, visitors perceive a holistic design approach; Hadid's newer Port House(2016) had a very vibrant facade-changing dramatically in different daylight situations. With the proper use of reflection and fragmentation, she breaks the volume successfully. Light here warring problems and debates.

IDEAS & DRAFT 1 There are three large-volume buildings in the site area, which may make people feel in tension and stressful. As reflections from water softens stone's heavy volume, we can put a water-theme pavilion in front of Barr Smith Library. After studied Woods Bagot and Mies van der Rohe's work, I decide to massively use glass here. With the implement of water-like floor and curved ceiling, it is foreseeable that passengers would enjoy the stay in the pavilion.

The glass ground will protect the passengers from the water. At the same time, when sunshine casted on the ground, they will be soon reflected to the roof.

REFLECTION Reflection is an image that you see when you look in a mirror or other shiny surface. Refraction is the apparent bending of a beam of light when it enters a medium where its speed is different. Iridescent is showing changing colours in different types of light.
In Elbphilharmonie in Hamburg, Herog & de Meuro used mullions to break up the monotony of large glass facades. Their mullion dated back to the early 20th century, when new glass culture made of 'colored glass''sparking in the sun','crystalline shapes of white glass' envisioned. The convex curves of numerous single glass elements reinforce the shiny distorted reflections of the sky, with which the curved facade evokes a vivid and liquid image. However, as the surroundings may change, the reflection of target building can become unintended. Light in this case stands for innovation. Innovation of material and form creates spectacle work.
Reflection closely related to a wide range of conceptions, like clarity, narcissism, virtual world, and inward eye.

The light pavilion stands in the first-half of Math Lawn. For people stay in the three buildings around, they would get a view of green. And for users visit in, they would feel like live under the bridge. The reflections from the water-like ground and glass-made roof would clear up user' mind.
FORM Page 17
The lotus-like lamp post would not disturb people enjoy the facade of Barr Smith Library.. As the walls of the functional area are all made by glass, there are a lot of transprancy of the library..

OPACITY Opacity is a thick or dark quality that makes something such as glass ora liquid difficult to see through. Darkness is the lack of light, especially when it is night. Shadow is an area of darkness that is created when something blocks light.
In Henry Plummer's case, she saw light effect a way to illustrate local beauty of nature and touch the human soul. As the low position of the sun in Scandinavia creates long shadows, Plummer applied pure white volumes to her work. An dramatic light and shadow sequence occurs at the Pirkkala Church, where glass acts as a lens and as mirror. The natural contrast between white and black enhances people's perception of time in church
Opacity and darkness stand for anonymity, silence and infinity.

Tiny pools sparkling in the sun; meanwhile the large leaf-like glass roof reinforce the shiny distorted reflections of the sky. Overall the curved glass roof will cast vivid and liquid image on the ceiling.

FILTERATION Filtration is the process of removing solid parts that are not wanted from a liquid or gas by passing it through a filter. Diffusion is the movement of light in many directions after it hits a surface that is not smooth or when it passes though a substance that is not completely clear. Porosity is a measure of the void spaces in a material.
Le Corbusier expressd an sensitivity for the interaction of colours and ligh in his sacred buildings. Light in Le Corbusier's sacred buildings has become a quiet force to visually resist and elude, erode and outshine. In different time of a day, the light reflect cosmic power differently, like writing a poem or singing a song. Light here are notes or words, can be seen lively.
Filtration, diffusion and porosity are about manipulating intensity of things. In most situations, only the perceived good will be left.
