-PLACE-
Site Location Brownhill Creek Recreation Park located in the foothills of the Mount Lofty Ranges and it’s about 8 kilometres south of the Adelaide city centre along part of the course of the Brown Hill Creek.
History The park is one of the oldest parks in South Australia and it’s renowned for its extensive cultural heritage. The River Red Gum is estimated 300 year old and it has been calld the ‘Monarch of the Glen’. It used as a make shift home by many colonial settlers and it’s significant to the Kaurna Aboriginal people. To prevent pollution of the creek when the valley was used for market gardening, the manure pits was built in 1891. The park is also famous for the State Heritage Registered manure pits. The protected area provides recreational opportunities for urban residents, protects the remnant aged river red gums and riparian zone habitats, and strives to balance tourism, biodiversity conservation and the preservation and restoration of cultural heritage sites.

The long history and culture, rich natural resources and species diversity make the Brown Hill Creek Park outstanding, precious and highly potential. The purpose of the reserve is to protect land, waters, the wide diversity of organisms, and to protect cultural heritage related to both indigenous and non-indigenous people. The development of leisure and entertainment places needs to look at the overall situation and balance natural ecology and human activities.

There are 99 native plant species recorded for Brown Hill Creek Recreation Park, including 27 of conservation significance. The park also functions as a refuge for wildlife and making the identification and protection of native fauna habitat is very important. There are also many Introduced species in the park, and they are one of the main threats to native plants and animal communities.
-DESIGNDialogue with nature The main purpose of the tree house design is to provide forest buildings that can be used for leisure and entertainment, daily living, rest and sleep, activity space and natural observation.
NATURE
Abou 30 m
CONCEPT
6.6 m
The design concept of the tree house is to communicate with nature and create an ecological house that is in harmony with the local environment, making this man-made building become a part of the Brown Hill Recreation Park landscape, serving humans and being accepted by the native animals in the original habitat. The design will minimize damage to the tree.

Structure & Strategy With the trunk of the selected tree as the center, use flexible timber framing to support the rigid platform and form the initial frame. The strong fixing device, such as a bolts, firmly fixes the floor structure to the support. The bottom support rod is fixed to the trunk by invasive methods, in order to reduce the damage to the trees, only make holes in key locations, and use a treehouse attachment bolt for better fixing.

Concept & Identity Providing residents with a comfortable life experience and showing a wonderful forest journey for passing tourists are the main design goals of the tree house group community. The entire community will try its best to achieve a high-efficiency, low-consumption, no waste, pollution-free, and ecologically balanced building environment. Become a part of nature and forest, so that materials and energy can be circulated and converted in an orderly manner within the building ecosystem.

Accessibility to visit the community is also an important strategy. Convenient trails connect every tree house and public area and extend to the surrounding natural environment.

Strategies & Tourism While the tree house is in harmony with nature, the coexistence of practicality and entertaining is the core design concept throughout the entire project. The open space layout allows residents to enjoy the charming forest scenery around the tree house from any angle. On the basis of the original trails, tree house group community has added more pathway to connect several tree houses in different locations and shared public areas from the ground. Basic public facilities will be built on a large lawn in the site, and the lawn will be upgraded to a shared outdoor activity area, providing gatherings, picnics, sports, planting and other recreational activities. The design of the aerial plank road connects several tree houses and surrounding trees from the air. The additional aerial viewing platform provides a brand-new space and aerial view, and brings fresh and interesting sightseeing methods to residents and tourists. The tree houses of different shapes are harmoniously blended with nature through the same community design concept, forming a new landscape that provides multiple services and emphasizes both practicality and entertaining. Visitors have the opportunity to participate in gatherings of residents, engage in outdoor activities together or experience the fun of planting in the community. Providing more diverse forms of entertainment can better promote tourism.
