“An Amish Sin” (Lifetime — TV movie premiere, Oct. 29)

This 2022 drama inspired by a true story follows Rachel (Dylan Ratzlaff), an Amish teen who refuses to obey her parents’ command that she marry the man who abused her as a child. Sent to a “rehab” for Amish girls who don’t follow the rules, she escapes and makes her way to a neighbor ing city where she must learn to live outside of the lifestyle she’s always known. Kellie Martin and Rukiya Bernard also star.

Adds Seazynn Gilliland, “I think that there was a responsibility, but it was only the best kind of responsibility I’ve never seen anything like this on screen before. When I was 15 myself, I would have ved to see something like this. I think it’s really important to show, and I was able to be the one to show that. So that was nice.”

Despite the success she and Tegan have enjoyed, Sara Quin says of early tunes they wrote and performed, “We had decided that all of the music was bad. It’s actually been the support of people around us who’ve reassured us that the music is strong enough to be a focal point on the show. I think it just sort of shows that young people can do amazing things, right even out of the gate before they’ve had years of training and experience. ometimes, our first instinct is our best instinct.”

Do you approach the work any differently if it’s based on a true stor y? Also, do you like playing these characters that perhaps are a little bit rude? Is it fun for you to get to say things that you might normally not get to say?

Yes, it’s a lot of fun to play the baddie, to put it crudely Yeah, it’s great fun. Why would you not want to? You know, to play the antagonist is always fun. So, yeah, to answer your other question, for me, I don’t think

I approach it dif ferently if it’s based around a real subject matter or a sensitive subject matter I do think there’s a sor t of added responsibility to it when tackling a project like that. I don’t think it af fects how I prepare for the job as an actor, but it cer tainly has a gravitas that you sor t of carr y with you that I think is impor tant.

What is it about murder mysteries that intrigues you as a viewer, not as a par ticipant but as a viewer?

I am constantly fascinated by human behavior which is probably why I’m an actress. So yeah. Just constantly fascinated with why people do things, how people get through cer tain events in their life, why people behave in cer tain ways, good or bad, what gets them to that point in their life? Is it nature, nur ture? I just find, you know, that whole unanswerable question absolutely fascinating. So yeah. Anything with extreme behavior sor t of fascinates me.
