A ma jo r goa l of the p ro ject is to negotiate the ex isti ng steep s lo p es of the river ba n k that a re co m p rised of added fill that elevated a nd leveled the s ite fo r pa st i n d ustria l n eeds whic h wo u ld a l low river a ccess a nd a co n nectio n to the g reater Pitts burg h A rea via the Mo no ng a hela River. To achieve this , a ra ilro ad bridg e is p ro p osed as well as a la ndfo rm that creates a natu ra l g radatio n down to the river fo r pedestria n as well as bo at access by mea ns of a dock. T he past ind ustria l histo ry of the site a nd of H azelwood is celebrated via a n eng raved co r-ten steel wa ll as it leads into a centra l event spa ce enc losed by la n dfo r ms fo r rec reatio n . Fi n a lly, the ex isti ng p i le of rock sa lt p roves to add further eco log ica l d isturba nce to the site.
