Skilled technicians = business success
Looking for new staff or need to ensure your current staff are appropriately qualified? Box Hill Institute is ready to help
Box Hill Institute is a leading provider of automotive apprentice training in Victoria and offers automotive courses from Certificate II through to Diploma level.
Looking for new staff?
When looking for new staff, Box Hill Institute encourages you to consider taking on an apprentice. “An apprentice can be a great asset to your business. They can inject a new life to your workshop and are keen to learn about the latest automotive technologies,” Box Hill Institute’s Automotive Manager, Michael Cope, said. “They can be a cost-effective solution to increasing the productivity of your workshop and generous government financial incentives may be available. “In employing an apprentice, you are helping feed the pipeline of skilled automotive technicians; an area that is facing a current skills shortage. “Box Hill Institute has a number of ‘job ready’ people that have either just finished or are near finishing the Certificate II in Automotive Studies (pre-apprentice) course. “These people have shown the drive and dedication required to complete the course and are keen to start their career in the automotive industry.”
Do you service and repair automotive air conditioning systems?
When it comes to working on automotive air conditioning systems, there are licencing requirements that must be observed. ARCtick is the governing body that issues the Refrigerant Handling Licence (RHL) that a person needs to hold in order to work on air conditioning systems that are fitted to the cabin of a motor vehicle. There are a number of ways of obtaining this licence. You can study the full Certificate II in automotive air conditioning servicing (13 units); or if you are a qualified mechanic, you can use your existing qualification as credit towards completing this course – you may only need to complete three units through flexible delivery (conditions apply). Box Hill Institute delivers the Certificate II in Automotive Air Conditioning throughout the year. Recognition of prior learning may also be available to prospective students. This course is also part of the government’s Free TAFE for Priority Courses initiative.

A NEW ERA OF NATIONAL EXPANSION FOR REDARC
REDARC has opened a new office in Victoria at the Auto Innovation Centre (AIC)
The new REDARC office at the AIC is situated within the automotive district, which is centrally located in Mulgrave, South East of Melbourne. REDARC says the company is set up to serve its customers locally and increase its capability, having already begun recruiting local engineers. “We are committed to increasing our workforce nationally and internationally. Setting up in the AIC positions us to work closer with our Victorian customers including RV, Light and Heavy Vehicle OEMs, aftermarket distributors, and auto-electrical installers across the State,” REDARC Managing Director, Anthony Kittel, said. The new Victorian location complements REDARC’s Advanced Electronics Manufacturing Facility in Lonsdale, South Australia and its branch at the Aerospace Centre in Williamtown, New South Wales. In 2018, REDARC completed a $22m expansion of its state-of-the-art facility in SA, which included the capability to scale up production by 250 percent. REDARC says it was strategically prepared for the demands of the unprecedented growth it is experiencing as today, its production floor is running almost 24 hours a day. REDARC has onboarded more than 80 new employees nationally and internationally in the last 12 months, taking its tally to over 250 staff. This growth trajectory has seen REDARC set up Business Divisions for Commercial, Aftermarket, Defence and Export segments, each supported by Strategic Marketing. Each division is led by a General Manager to support the company’s advancement, continual innovation and to meet the changing needs of customers. The Auto Innovation Centre is a state-of-the-art facility assisting Australian manufacturers in continuing to develop world-class products. The Centre offers access to vehicles and the use of the workshop for test fitting, plus 3D scanning and post processing; 3D printing; dynamic vehicle testing and ADAS calibration; a dedicated 100-person capacity training room, and laboratoryspec tensile/compression testing and a Damper Dynamometer. Newly appointed General Manager Commercial Sales, Guy Nicholls; Business Development Manager Recreational Vehicle OE, Tim Chivers; and newly appointed Area Sales Manager Victoria and Tasmania, Ian Madanis are the first to use the new facility. The team looks forward to conducting local product training sessions and utilising the centre’s advanced tools. “Innovation is one of REDARC’s hallmarks, so it’s fitting to be at the Auto Innovation Centre. I look forward to our customers taking advantage of our full-service capability to conceptualise, design and build advanced electronic products as we deliver new and exciting technologies,” Guy said.
