REPCO TO COMMEMORATE 100 YEARS AT EXPO

Iconic Automotive history and state-of-the-art digital workshops solutions on display at AAAE

Repco is promising huge celebrations at the 2022 Australian Auto Aftermarket Expo as the event’s major sponsor enters its 100th year in Australia and New Zealand. GPC Asia Pacific’s Automotive Division Chief Executive Officer, Wayne Bryant, recently told GoAuto News that the sponsorship of the Expo is an important part of the company’s 100th birthday celebrations. “The Expo is a big deal for Repco – as it is for anyone in the industry. It’s an opportunity to showcase the key initiatives that we’ve got in our business, particularly those that support the trade such as our digital workshop solutions, tools and equipment, and that all-important chance to talk to our audience about our product range,” Wayne told GoAuto News. “The Expo is very important at any time, but there has been a lot of change in the industry over the past three years. I think 2022 is a year where change is particularly obvious. Whether that’s because of the rise of zero- or lower-emissions vehicles, or what’s happening with choice of repairer, or even advancements in vehicle technology in general, it’s another key time in the evolution of our industry,” he added. From humble beginnings when it started in a Collingwood tin shed in 1922 under the name of ‘Replacement Parts Company,’ Repco now has more than 400 stores across Australia and New Zealand. Included is a remarkable tale of global domination when Repco powered Jack Brabham and Denny Hulme to Formula One World Drivers’ Championships in 1966 and 1967, including back-to-back Constructors’ titles thanks to the famous Repco-Brabham combination. Repco is entering its second year as the major partner of the Repco Supercars Championship, the Repco Bathurst 1000 as well as its ongoing partnership with Shell V-Power Racing. Repco’s racing heritage will be represented on its stand at this year’s Expo with a number of iconic racing cars on display. As part of Repco’s celebrations, visitors to its stand will walk away with presents as Repco will have a number of giveaways during the Expo, including Repco Tote Bags full of exciting Repco merchandise. Repco will also be promoting its digital workshop solutions as part of its show activities. Whether communicating externally with customers or internally with your team, the digital age affords aftermarket workshops greater opportunity to increase performance and profitability. With more information at their fingertips, modern workshops will become more competitive by providing customers answers to queries when they call and not having to worry about call-backs or follow-ups. Having the information at hand to convert the caller to a customer will be key, by ensuring that the customer has all the answers in one call. Just in time delivery has also changed how workshops operate, reducing the amount of stock carried, even though the range of parts required for vehicles has increased significantly. Being able to locate stock and know it is available to suit customer expectations allows for increased productivity in the workshop. Time is not wasted with vehicles on hoist or staying overnight because parts were not available when the job was booked. Digital systems can also assist workshops internally, helping to find information faster than ever before, increasing workshop performance and efficiency. Every activity in the workshop takes time, whether ordering alternators, clearing codes, finding parts or stamping logbooks. The faster a workshop can find information, the sooner they can return to profitable work. Without accurate, timely information, workshops are at a disadvantage before a spanner has been lifted or the key turned in an ignition barrel. It is only by supporting a change that all workshops can benefit as we move into the future. Time is now the world’s most precious resource. People are more time poor than ever before, and productivity is key to any profitable business. Repco says its suite of Digital Workshop Solutions will ensure that any workshop can maximise productivity and, in return, profit. For a workshop, this can mean fitting more jobs into the same day, increasing income with less expense. It can also mean completing paper work during the day, on the spot and not taking time away from family and friends working late into the night after business hours. Repco has designed multiple workshop solutions to save time and increase customer engagement for any size of workshop in Australia which will give simple ways to improve efficiencies and allow workshops to reinvest the saved time in to what is most important. Rare Spares, which was recently acquired by Repco, will also be featured on its stand. Repco invites you to visit it at Stand I14 at the AAAExpo. For more from Repco, visit www.repco.com.au

AAAEXPO OFFERS UNPARALLELED EDUCATION OPPORTUNITIES

A comprehensive and free-to-attend seminar series will engage and entertain at the Expo

April’s Australian Auto Aftermarket Expo (AAAExpo), co-located with the Collision and Repair Expo (CRE) at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre, will deliver unparalleled education opportunities for automotive businesses. “The seminar program offers a great selection of topics, all ripe for discussion and input from everyone attending,” AAAA Board Member and mycar Managing Director, Adam Pay, said. “It is important for everyone in the trade to know and feel that they are not alone. We are all trying to solve the same problems in a market that’s big enough for everyone to be successful in. “To this end, people attending the Expo and the seminars can learn from one another and share ideas, maybe avoid making some mistakes, get some food for thought about their own business, and take some time away from the crisis management of the past couple of years to think about what the future looks like. “This is the perfect time to draw a line under some of the challenges we’ve been facing, and set ourselves up for the future.” A hand-picked selection of respected industry experts will offer practical knowledge on the topics that matter most in engaging and thoughtprovoking seminars which have been designed for everyone from workshop owners and managers who want to gain an edge in business, through to automotive technicians looking to upskill their knowledge and further their careers. Amongst the line-up is the highly anticipated “Our skills shortage: attracting great staff and keeping them” seminar which will feature a panel discussion by AAAA Director of Government Relations and Advocacy, Lesley Yates; mycar Managing Director and AAAA Board Member, Adam Pay; Capricorn Group Chief Executive Officer, David Fraser; and the Automotive Dealer Association’s Chief Executive Officer, James Voortman. “The skills shortage has been a hot topic for a number of years now, made worse in recent times by border closures due to COVID-19,” Adam said. “It is a complex challenge with no single simple solution so it will be great to get together with some senior industry colleagues to share insights and expertise. “As we know, it’s not just about attracting team members – the most important job is keeping them in your team, so I’m also looking forward to discussing some ideas for retaining and rewarding our people. “We all need great team members. Without them we simply don’t have a business. It doesn’t matter whether you’re a dealer or part of a big chain or a standalone workshop – it is an issue that affects us all and we need to work together to resolve it. As part of the panel, I’ll be discussing some strategies for attraction and retention that have helped us at mycar, and I’m looking forward to hearing from my fellow panellists as well.” David Fraser is particularly excited to be taking part in the seminar in light of Capricorn’s recent research on the topic of skills shortages. “According to 53 percent of Capricorn Members who participated in our State of the Nation research, the lack of qualified staff in the industry was either very or extremely concerning. 51 percent of Members said it was the top challenge facing the industry right now,” David said. “It’s an issue Capricorn is keen to support the industry to overcome. Through initiatives like Capricorn’s Rising Stars, and the State of the Nation report, we get a good look at the hopes and challenges of our Members and apprentices as they attempt to create the next generation of the automotive industry. “I’m keen to discuss what we currently know about the implications of the skills shortage, what Capricorn Members think about apprenticeships, and what the State of the Nation report tells us we can do to help close the skills gap. Finding skilled technicians is tough, and whilst there isn’t a quick fix, discussing possible solutions at seminars like this, will hopefully move us closer to a sustainable talent pool.” For James Voortman, the seminar’s focus on solutions is a key selling point. “We have been talking about the shortage for years and it has only been compounded by the effects of the pandemic. We all know the problem, so what I am looking forward to is coming together with other participants and talking about solutions and discussing who has been doing things differently and what is working,” James said. “The Expo and its seminar series really is a brilliant opportunity for delegates to take time out of their workplace and learn lessons they can apply in their businesses. We have had very few such opportunities during the course of the pandemic, and I’m sure all the topics will be incredibly insightful.” Another topic that is sure to inspire workshop owners is the “How high performing workshops use data to boost performance” presentation by Ben Selwyn of ACA Research and AAAA Head of Membership and Marketing, Tiffany Conway. “As it says in the name, we are trying to provide

David Fraser - Capricorn Lesley Yates - AAAA

insights into how workshops can use data to make better decisions, and improve their performance. The application of data isn’t limited to workshops either – many aftermarket businesses have had a strong couple of years, but are now looking at what comes next, so they need to make smart decisions in order to set themselves up for success,” Ben said. “The problem is there is too much information out there, so we want to help them cut through that overload, identifying sources they can rely on and how they can pair those together with what they know about their business and the world around them to plan out their future.” Alongside Ben’s presentation, the AAAA’s Tiffany Conway will be running a live demonstration to bring some of the AAAA’s data tools to life. Show attendees will also have the opportunity to drop by the AAAA expo stand and try these out for themselves. Another banner topic at the Expo will be the new Motor Vehicle Service and Repair Information Sharing Scheme, which will become Law on 1 July 2022. AAAA’s Lesley Yates will present a special seminar on this subject, explaining how the new law will work, how it will increase competition and choice for consumers, and how it will guarantee fair and open competition in the industry. No Expo with the theme of ‘The Workshop of the Future is Here’ would be complete without a look at the topic of Electric Vehicles, so it should be no surprise that the seminar program will feature the “Electric Vehicles Trends and Opportunities” presentation hosted by AAAA Chief Executive Officer, Stuart Charity. This seminar will seek to answer a wide array of questions such as: are EVs a business opportunity or will they result in a smaller independent repair network? Are EVs the end of our industry as we know it or a new beginning? When will customers start asking if you can work on their EV? What should you do to prepare? And what can government do to support you and future EV owners? EVs are coming and we need to be ready, so this seminar is one that should not be missed. Something else workshops need to be ready for in the future is the ever-changing environment around vehicle modifications. “The future of vehicle modifications” seminar, presented by Auto Innovation Centre Managing Director, Luke Truskinger, and AAAA’s Lesley Yates, will take a look at how changing government attitudes and increasing regulation, combined with new vehicle technologies, are presenting challenges to aftermarket product manufacturers and suppliers as they continue to innovate, develop and market new products. Also to be discussed will be how new vehicle technology affects current and future product design and testing, which auto aftermarket products are currently under government regulatory review and what the future might hold for government regulation of modifications to inservice vehicles. Workshop success and customer service will also be addressed as part of the seminar schedule, with ‘The Workshop Whisperer’ Rachael Evans to present two seminars: “Five steps to workshop success” and “The key to improving customer service in the auto repair industry.” Five steps to workshop success will address the biggest mistakes workshops make, and provide the action steps you need to take to grow a profitable auto repair shop. The key to improving customer service in the auto repair industry seminar will provide insights into who makes a great service advisor and who doesn’t, what responsibilities your service advisor should have, and how they can improve your customer satisfaction, your online reputation, and your overall profitability. Speaking of workshop success, the “How to use digital marketing to grow your business” seminar, presented by AusGarage’s Joseph Wheeler, is another which will offer a number of actionable takeaways for those looking to market and grow. Consumer trends and expectations have never changed as rapidly as in the last two years, so it is vital business owners understand what these changes mean and how they can use digital marketing tools to grow their businesses. With this seminar, attendees will find out how to get ahead of the curve with practical advice on a range of digital tools and strategies across search engine optimisation, email marketing, social media marketing, content marketing, pay-perclick (PPC) advertising, marketing automation, and much more. Legal issues are surely a hot button topic for workshops, and so the “How to deal with the common legal issues that affect auto repair workshops” seminar by Industry Legal Group’s Emma Dalley will explain the top five legal issues raised by workshops – Consumer Guarantee Claims, Customer Supplied Parts, Warranties, Unpaid Invoices, Uncollected Vehicles – and what you can do to reduce the stress and financial burden caused by these matters. Another hard question facing many business owners is how to confidently take a break. The “Why you haven’t had a decent holiday in years” seminar, presented by Leaderise’s Michael Erwin, will provide tips and advice on how to build trust, change your mindset and find the time to set-up systems and processes so you can take a step away and recharge. The CRE will also host a number of additional seminars, covering digital marketing, attachment methods, drivers of business success, diversifying to get your customers to buy more, ADAS, training and building your business. Each seminar runs for approximately 45 minutes and entry is free of charge to all registered visitors for the 2022 Australian Auto Aftermarket Expo and Collision and Repair Expo. Pre booking via online registration is easy and essential, as numbers for each session are limited.

4WD BOOM TO BE CELEBRATED AT AAAEXPO

For the first time the Australian Auto Aftermarket Expo will host a dedicated 4WD Innovation Zone

With net revenue from the sale of 4WD parts and accessories in Australia set to grow by a whopping 17.5 percent over the next few years, it is no accident 4WD-related products will take centre stage at this year’s Australian Auto Aftermarket Expo (AAAExpo). Australians are obsessed with their four-wheel drives, with SUV/4WD-category sales accounting for more than half of the million vehicles sold across the country in 2021, and more than 5.5 million 4WDs currently on the nation’s roads. That presents a fantastic opportunity for Australia’s more than 2,100 businesses servicing the 4WD aftermarket. In fact, a recent Australian Automotive Aftermarket Association (AAAA) study found the 4WD aftermarket – which already generates $6 billion in revenue from the manufacture, distribution and sales of parts and accessories each year – is booming. For the first time, this year’s AAAExpo, proudly sponsored by Repco, will host a dedicated 4WD Innovation Zone. Many of the biggest and best 4WD companies in Australia will share, promote, network and sell their latest technology, products, tools and equipment in a unique, industry specific B2B environment. “There is a huge level of confidence in the 4WD parts and accessories market, with companies looking at the volume of 4WD sales and the expected growth in the 4WD aftermarket, and seizing the opportunity to expand and improve their ranges,” AAAA Chief Executive Officer, Stuart Charity, said. “A lot of work has gone into developing new parts, accessories, tools and equipment. The 4WD Innovation Zone is a unique and exciting opportunity for manufacturers, resellers and retailers to get together, see what’s new, and do business.” Some of Australia’s most respected 4WD brands are looking forward to the benefits offered by the new 4WD Innovation Zone and amongst the companies exhibiting are East Coast Bullbars (ECB), Vehiqa Australia and Razorback 4x4. “The Auto Aftermarket Expo is a must attend industry event for East Coast Bullbars, and we’re excited to be part of the 4WD Innovation Zone initiative,” ECB General Manager, Craig Kittle, said. “We’re looking forward to building relationships with distributors, showcasing our latest products and connecting with potential fleet customers at the show.” Cangoee Australia Managing Director, Andrew Holden, said he was looking forward to using the company’s stand in the 4WD Innovation Zone to launch new product “Our unique vehicle mobile power systems which incorporate our latest generation solid state power management will be the stars of our stand in the 4WD Innovation Zone,” Andrew said. “We are very much looking forward to taking the opportunity to also launch our new brand, Cangoee, and to hosting prospective dealers at our stand.” Razorback 4x4 is keen to take advantage of the B2B opportunities presented by the Expo. “Razorback’s stall will feature our line of interior protection accessories – our high quality, tailored seat covers. We will have the covers on seats so we can show off the tailored fit, and will also be showing off samples of other products, such as console lids and organisers, canvas accessories, and different materials,” Razorback 4x4 Business Development Manager, Joshua Mitrou, said. “The AAAExpo is an expo that will allow us to make new B2B connections, and offer our services in regard to fleets, outsourcing, and reaching a different demographic of customer compared to our online retail sales. We are backed by a large OEM facility, and are looking forward to discussing outsourcing and manufacturing opportunities at a trade show focused on B2B rather than retail and the individual consumer. “4WDs keep growing in popularity in Australia, and on a global scale. They aren’t just for tradies and off-roaders anymore, but are now being used as family cars and daily rides, and are just reaching large levels of popularity. By embracing this with its 4WD Innovation Zone, we believe the AAAA is in a good place to support established and up and coming companies in this space, and we are looking forward to being part of it. “At Razorback we don’t just offer the highest quality tailored seat covers on the retail market, but we also offer outsourcing, manufacturing, and OEM work through our parent company, Zervi. We would love to talk about any client needs at the AAAExpo, and we can tailor a product or solution no matter the size of the request. We look forward to seeing you at the show!” The 4WD Innovation Zone forms just one great component of the unmissable Australian Auto Aftermarket Expo, which co-located with the Collision Repair Expo is the nation’s only comprehensive exhibition for Australia’s $25B aftermarket industry. With the theme of ‘The Workshop of the Future is Here’ a total of 250 exhibitors will join over 8,000 trade visitors, across three days to experience the latest parts, equipment and technology and network with industry colleagues. Please drop in and say hello to us at our stands M48 and C50.” ASV Euro Car Parts has continued to announce new partnerships with the latest OEM brands for the last decade. “Despite the curveballs that the past two years have thrown at the automotive industry we are so proud to say that we are now the distributors for more brands and more European parts than ever before,” Vic said. “We are the European car parts specialists and sellers of all the biggest OEM brands in the world, including Brembo Brakes, UFI Filters, ZF, Lemforder, Sachs, TRW and WABCO Borsehung, Magneti Marelli, Valeo, Arnott and so many more. “In recent years, as we have expanded in the OEM parts division, we saw a real need for more variety, and quality automotive oils and lubricants in the Australian market. We realised that our customers in the auto mechanics and smash repair market needed alternative lubricant brands to those already in the Australian market. “It was this understanding of what our customers needed that has led us to now be the Australian distributors of two of the world’s leading lubricants for European automotive vehicles: Pertamina Fastron and PETRONAS. “It is such an exciting time to be in this market and the feedback from our customers tell us that this is a long overdue shake up in the Australian market for automotive oils.” ASV Euro Car Parts is the exclusive Australian distributor of Pertamina Fastron. “Pertamina Fastron Synthetic oil is one of the world’s leading automotive engine oil manufacturers. FRONT OFFICE SALES

Are you losing customers because you don’t have sales information at your fingertips?

Anyone who has run front of store sales knows the frustration of not having information at their fingertips when the customer asks. Having to rush back to the computer to check on a stock enquiry risks frustration for the customer and your counter sales team while adding a barrier to the sale. In today’s ever-demanding world, having to wait for an answer results in your customers going elsewhere, which is why a modern, touch-enabled sales tool is a necessity, not a luxury. An efficient, streamlined device-agnostic tool allows your sales team to use a mobile device (or tablet) to provide a high level of customer service throughout the store, rather than needing to stop a sales conversation to get information. All of this adds up to improved customer satisfaction and providing real-time value for your customers is also great for your bottom line. By removing obstacles from the sales process, your sales team is free to do what they do best – sell. Allowing them to break free from the front counter means better engagement with customers, opening more opportunities for incremental sales. More effective and productive access to information and greater freedom to sell also reduces stress on your sales team and increases their morale. Markinson’s Front Office Sales is an efficient device-agnostic sales tool that provides immediate and accurate access to information on stock availability and movement, customer sales history and order status, meaning the entire transaction can be completed on the spot. The front of store sales tool you purchase must interact with back-end sales, inventory, and stock data because your sales team often require immediate and mobile access to inventory, price checks, supplier and purchase order data, sales processing functions, including quote recalls and pick up slips, POS cash receipts and credit notes. A solution that is too slow, inaccurate, or inefficient won’t cut it, and your customers will not be forgiving, warns Markinson. Markinson encourages you to use the Australian Auto Aftermarket Expo as a starting point for your research to improve customer service and productivity while streamlining your sales. The Markinson team will be at Stand C29 and can introduce you to Momentum Pro and the Front Office Sales module and demonstrate its unique benefits. For more information, go to www.markinson.com.au

THE FUTURE IS HERE: IS YOUR WORKSHOP READY?

The Workshop of the Future Pavilion will help Expo attendees future-proof their businesses

Today’s vehicles are changing the game for those in the mechanical and collision repair sectors, and technology is moving ahead at break-neck speed. If they want to succeed, business owners and managers must understand what this new age requires. They must make the right decisions on what they should specialise in and how they should evolve. And they must identify the skills, equipment and technology they need to bring that evolution into reality. The AAAExpo’s Workshop of the Future Pavilion has been designed to help attendees future-proof their businesses. Across 225 square metres, this Pavilion will bring together the very latest information and practical tips from subject matter experts with state-of-the-art equipment and technology for the benefit of attendees of both the AAAExpo and the co-located Collision Repair Expo at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre across April 7-9, 2022. The Pavilion will be fully enclosed with a layout replicating a futuristic workshop with four key zones covering: • Workshop Management Systems; • EV/Alternative Fuel Repair Techniques and

Workshop Equipment; • ADAS Calibration Equipment; and • Diagnostics and Tooling including J2534 Pass

Through Technology. Also set to be featured is education around the customer experience, running your business, and emerging skill and equipment requirements. The subject experts will deliver education which is not tied to any particular brand or product, and these presentations will be delivered free of charge (registration is required) to the audience using a tiered seating set-up, so attendees are able to easily take in the presentations in comfort. They will also be able to ask questions, and can come back through the Pavilion at various times across the three days to enjoy presentations on the different areas. “The theme for this year’s show is ‘the future is here’ and that is what we truly believe – the future is here now,” AAAA Chief Executive Officer, Stuart Charity, said. “The vehicles being sold in showrooms and those which have been on the road for the last couple of years are going to change the game across both mechanical and collision repair for a whole range of reasons, as we are seeing technology moving ahead at break-neck speed. “All of these vehicles need to be maintained and repaired for their useful life in every city and town in Australia so there is a whole new set of requirements for skill sets and tooling and equipment. “As such, there is a need for collision repairers and mechanical repairers to make decisions in the next few years about how they are going to move forward, as you won’t be able to be all things to all people anymore. “So, what we are trying to do is target key technology areas; bringing in subject matter experts to provide impartial information about what is going to be required in their businesses, and the information they need to make educated decisions on what they want to specialise in, how they want to evolve, and what they need to make that happen. “Importantly, we are seeking to ensure that everything we demonstrate at the Pavilion is pragmatic – we are not talking about a Jetsons like scene of flying cars, we are focusing on what is happening here and now and what workshops are going to need to take advantage of these developments moving forward. “This approach is a bit of a game changer for our Expo. It has always been about showcasing the very best companies and their equipment, which we will of course continue to deliver, but I think the difference here is that we are really focusing on what our research tells us are the areas that workshops specifically want to better understand, and we will deliver this in a very objective environment.” For more information and to register, visit www.autoaftermarketexpo.com.au/visiting/wof

AAAEXPO TO ANSWER PRESSING EV QUESTIONS

Expo attendees will be able to plug into the future of the EV market at the Australian Auto Aftermarket Expo

Electric Vehicles (EVs) are one of the most discussed topics among workshops currently, so it was no surprise when more than 120 participants logged on to a special Australian Automotive Aftermarket Association (AAAA) webinar on the topic recently. This webinar – hosted by AAAA Director of Government Relations and Advocacy, Lesley Yates, and mycar Managing Director and AAAA Board member, Adam Pay – shared some of the latest research and insights into this emerging market. The session proved to be a great introduction to what visitors can expect as part of the comprehensive education opportunity on EVs and the future of the aftermarket industry at Melbourne’s AAAExpo across April 7-9. A replay of the full EV webinar has been made public, and can be watched on the ‘AusAutoAftermarketAssoc’ YouTube channel. One of the pressing questions in relation to EV is how quickly these vehicles will join the car parc. The AAAA recently released Australian market projections based on its assumptions of Australian buying trends and the existing government incentives. “While these figures are always being updated based on new information, numbers from the end of last year show that when looking at the proportion of the car parc that is/will be electric, that even if 50 percent of sales are EV in 2030, the car parc will be at best about six percent EV and 94 percent traditional fuel vehicles at that point,” Lesley said. “2045 is increasingly looking like the tipping point, so looking ahead, the AAAA believes that if you run a workshop with four bays, one of these will be EV in 2040 and half of them will be EV in 2045, assuming a steady increase and that government policy remains the same.” To ensure its members can continue to thrive into this new era, the AAAA Board has established an EV Strategy Group focused on helping the industry prepare for this evolution. It has a simple brief – to support members to reach a point that they can confidently tell their customer – “yes, I can service your EV.” “We see EV as evolution, rather than revolution. Once adoption picks up, we’ll need to move at pace, but right now there’s a healthy runway for the industry to transition. But we need to take action; it’ll need the industry – all of us – to do something about it; to prepare ourselves,” Adam said. The AAAA and its EV Strategy Board feels the aftermarket needs to pay attention to the following subjects now, in order to plan to embrace EVs: knowing when EVs are coming, having the knowledge to work with them; understanding workshop layout considerations; and being ready with consumer information. “What I am confident about, is the ability of this industry to adapt and change – we’ve proved it time and time again. Keeping our minds open to the opportunities, being inquisitive and learning; gearing up and working together as an industry to embrace the future, will ensure our collective ‘from, to’ journey is smooth and successful,” said Adam. All of these talking points and more will be addressed as part of the AAAExpo’s ‘Electric Vehicles Trends and Opportunities’ seminar, presented by AAAA Chief Executive Officer Stuart Charity on the Saturday of the Expo. This seminar is just one of many free seminars across the three days of the Expo focusing on the topics that matter to the automotive industry. The comprehensive Seminar Series is complemented by the highly anticipated Workshop of the Future pavilion, replicating a futuristic workshop and bringing together stateof-the-art equipment and technology with regular presentations from industry experts across four key zones, providing workshops a path to begin a pivot toward meeting the needs of the changing car parc. AAAEXPO THE PERFECT PLACE FOR MANDATORY DATA SHARING LAW UPDATE

A special seminar as part of the Australian Auto Aftermarket Expo will provide a close-up look at the new Law in action

In a phenomenal moment for the Australian Automotive Aftermarket industry, the Mandatory Data Sharing legislation which the Australian Automotive Aftermarket Association (AAAA) had campaigned for more than 12 years was passed into Law in 2021. Since then, the AAAA has been spearheading the work required to make the law operational by the July 1 2022 commencement date. The new Motor Vehicle Service and Repair Information Sharing Scheme law will, for the first time, amend the Competition and Consumer Act (CCA) to establish a scheme for motor vehicle service and repair information to be shared with all Australian repairers and Registered Training Organisations (RTOs). It has been designed to provide a fairer playing field for the repair and service of the automotive brands available in Australia in an industry worth $25 billion annually, compelling car manufacturers to share all mechanical repair and service information with the independent auto repair sector on “fair and reasonable commercial terms”. Also unique to this law is the fact that it requires the establishment of an industry body to operationalise the scheme. From this requirement, the Australian Automotive Service and Repair Authority (AASRA) has been developed, pulling directors and alternative directors from the AAAA, Australian Automotive Dealer Association (AADA), Federal Chamber of Automotive Industries (FCAI) and the Motor Trades Association of Australia (MTAA), supported by an independent chair. AAAA Chief Executive Officer, Stuart Charity, recently provided an update on the progress of the law and AASRA as part of a series of informative member webinars hosted by the AAAA. This webinar acted as an educational precursor to a special presentation which will be held as part of the AAAExpo’s comprehensive seminar program. The “Fair and Open Competition in the Automotive Industry” seminar will be presented by the AAAA’s Director of Government Relations and Advocacy, Lesley Yates. Answering questions such as how is it going to work, does the new law increase competition and choice for consumers, and does it guarantee fair and open competition in our industry, the seminar is expected to be a ‘hot ticket’ at the show. Expo attendees will not only have the chance to hear direct from Lesley on how the new law will operate and the benefits and challenges ahead, but walk-throughs of how independent repairers can utilise the secure data release model in real time are also planned. “The timing of the Expo and its seminar on this subject is quite perfect, as the Expo is being held 11 weeks out from the launch of the mandatory data sharing scheme,” Stuart said. “We will be undertaking a lot of activity at the Expo around informing the industry of what is going on and how they can use those 11 weeks to prepare, both in Lesley’s seminar and at the Workshop of the Future Pavilion. “We are even working towards providing a live demonstration of how the AASRA system will work with participating OEMs. “While we still have a bit to do, there is and will be plenty to talk about at the Expo. We have a lot in place and this has been a complex and massive task – we are kind of creating history here, as there is nothing like this scheme around the world. “A lot of work at the moment is around the onboarding of car companies to the AASRA platform, and already 37 car brands operating in Australia have committed to the AASRA platform. “We have finalised the scheme rules and we have launched the website and the secure data release platform, and those will be progressively updated as we get ready to go from July 1. “It is a really exciting time.” The Fair and Open Competition in the Automotive Industry seminar is just one of many free seminars across the three days of the Expo focusing on the topics that matter to the automotive industry. PEDDERS ON SHOW

A number of new Pedders products will be on display at the AAAExpo

Pedders Suspension and Brakes says it is excited to be exhibiting at this year’s Australian Auto Aftermarket Expo (AAAExpo). Pedders will showcase a range of new products at the show, headlined by an Australian-first technology: LoadRyder Onboard Scales. LoadRyder is a unique system that provides accurate real-time vehicle weight data to the driver. This technology is aimed at reducing overloading of vehicles and enhancing occupational health and safety, particularly in key fleet vehicle segments such as mining, agriculture and defence. Exceeding a vehicle’s certified Gross Vehicle Mass (GVM) rating not only is unsafe, but it’s also illegal and could void the vehicle’s insurance policy. This is why having real-time weight data available to the driver is critical in vehicles that regularly carry heavy loads. The system in the vehicle sounds an alarm when the vehicle becomes overloaded beyond its certified GVM rating and can even record an overloading event and transmit this information back to a Fleet manager remotely. Each vehicle is pre-programmed with its maximum GVM and axle-load limits and the system is extremely accurate. Pedders will initially offer the system across Hilux and Ranger, but intends to roll it out across other popular dual-cab utes over the course of the year. While LoadRyder will be a focus for Pedders at the AAAExpo, other popular and innovative product lines will also be on display showcasing the vast range of aftermarket Pedders parts currently available for the 4x4, towing and load-carrying and sports and performance markets. The Pedders show display will also feature a unique holographic display box featuring Pedders brand ambassador and motorsport personality, Neil Crompton. The AAAExpo will be the first show at which Pedders will showcase this futuristic technology which the brand is set to adopt at many large exhibitions this year. Check out Pedders Suspension and Brakes at Stand N24 at the AAAExpo. For more information, visit www.pedders.com.au

PAO-BASED LUBRICANTS

For thermal management in hybrid and electric vehicles

The Refrigerant Oil Company says there are many reasons you should consider using PAOIL in your workshop. The company states that it pioneered the use of PAO-based oils in refrigeration 20 years ago and is now driving the use of PAO-based lubricants for thermal management in hybrid and electric vehicles. The Refrigerant Oil Company says it is doing so because the users of the products found they recognised the advantages of the stability, purity and lubricity of polyalphaolefins (PAOs) for the industry; stating that the electrical properties of PAO make it suitable for high voltage electrical systems. Key features and benefits:

• PAOIL is useable with all automotive compressor types including hybrid vehicle compressors. • PAO is also compatible with R134a and the new

R1234yf refrigerant, meaning you only need one oil to use for most auto A/C applications. • PAOIL is suitable for the use in hybrid and electric vehicles (AA series is preferred but PL series may be used). • PAOIL has a high Viscosity Index meaning the oil

maintains its viscosity and lubricating properties at high operating temperatures. • Unlike other lubricants, PAO is non-hygroscopic: it does not readily absorb moisture. • The special packaging and equipment needed with other oils to ensure moisture does not enter the refrigeration circuit along with the oil is not necessary with PAOIL. • Due to the inertness and inherent stability of

PAO, PAOIL has a five-year shelf life. • PAOIL is also available with an added UV dye to help with leak tracing. • PAOIL is universal: you need to stock one, rather than carry many different types of oil. • Safe to use: PAOIL is a non-hazardous, nontoxic product which is safe to have around the workshop. It is safe on painted surfaces, so there are no worries if it is accidentally spilt on vehicles. PAOIL PL series offers the same positive properties as the PAOIL AA series, meaning it can be used as a complete oil replacement for A/C systems. The Refrigerant Oil Company says that by using PAOIL you can buy in bulk (PAOIL is available in 1L, 5L, 10L and 20L container sizes) and with its five-year shelf life, not worry about the oil being unusable a couple of hours after opening. Workshops do not need to stock multiple types of oil when using PAOIL, since PAOIL is suitable for use with a wide variety of automotive compressors and refrigerants. As such, The Refrigerant Oil Company says PAOIL helps you to save money. Ariazone and The Refrigerant Oil Company are fully Australian-owned companies based in Melbourne at the Global Headquarters, and part of the ROC Group. Ariazone/PAOIL products are currently used in workshops in more than 60 counties worldwide. Visit us at Stand D28 at the AAAExpo For more information, go to www.rocoil.com or www.ariazone.com or call 03 9338 7522.

SOLAR POWERED WARNING LIGHTS

See the lights for yourself by visiting the Invision Sales stand at the AAAExpo

Warning lights are often required in critical applications where no power is available such as on the carriages of freight trains. At night, there is no side lighting that can alert a driver on a country road that a very long set of freight carriages are still over the crossing. These difficult locations also make it impossible to use rechargeable battery-operated lights as the trains will be traveling for weeks on end. Until now, Invision Sales says there has been no feasible solution. The JW Speaker Solar Powered Flasher Warning light, Model 210, is an advanced solution that allows you to fit and forget. With charging occurring during the day and needing just six hours of sunshine, the Model 210 delivers 120 hours of clearly visible, hazard warning in either red or amber. These bright, easy-to-mount solar LEDs are designed so obstructions and hazards are clearly visible, even from extended distances. The robust polycarbonate housing withstands the harshest conditions, making it the ideal LED light for a wide range of dimly lit applications. “The mounting of these solar flasher lights is quick and easy without the need for any surface drilling,” Invision Sales Managing Director, Wayne Blackman, said. “The powerful Click Bond adhesive-bonded mount is the optimal installation solution that won’t cause any structural damage to panels and walls.” The Model 210 solar warning lights deliver up to 11 Candela brightness and are visible at a distance of 1.5 km. A perpendicular light beam offers easier identification from further distances. The ClickBond adhesive mount eliminates drilling and risking the structural integrity, especially where sealing is required. The rugged housing comes with an IP67 and IP69k ratings for operation in the harshest environments. “These lights are effectively maintenancefree, apart from keeping them clean, and the applications include freight trains, road warning, signage, parked construction vehicles, bollards, mining equipment and transportation vehicles. Anytime a self-charging warning system is required,” Wayne said. To see the new Model 210 Solar light and many other JW Speaker LED Lighting products, visit Stand L38 at the AAAExpo. For more information, visit www.invisionsales.com or call Invision Sales on 03 9336 2066.

GATES IS SHOW READY

The Gates stand will feature interactive displays, free donuts and product experts

Gates Australia, a leading manufacturer of application-specific fluid power and power transmission solutions, has announced they will be attending the Australian Auto Aftermarket Expo. Gates Australia will be exhibiting at Stand K42 during this year’s expo. The stand will showcase a number of new and popular automotive products which cover a wide range of systems including cooling, accessory belt drive, synchronous belt drive and tools including modular hoses and Gates’ latest complete system replacement campaign, ‘Protect the Ride.’ Modular hoses are commonly found across most European cars going back to 2006. Modular hoses are now found in almost all current vehicles and present great sales opportunities for distributors, resellers and workshops alike. The Protect the Ride campaign has three parts covering the serpentine, timing and cooling systems and advocates for complete system replacement, ensuring more profitable jobs for workshops and less customer comebacks. Gates explains that all parts of these systems wear at the same time, so if one part of the system needs replacing, all the components are likely to need replacing and if not done this way, it is more than likely that the customer will return with additional system repairs sooner rather than later due to a failed component. The Gates stand will feature interactive displays, free donuts and product experts with networking opportunities. Attendees can also go into the running to win one of two Gates Retro Arcade Drums (RRP: $1850). Gates will also be hosting ‘Happy Hour’ on the Friday night of the expo from 6.00pm to 7.00pm, with everyone attending the expo during this time welcome to enjoy free drinks on the Gates stand and network with other professionals – and they might even be lucky enough to meet a Supercars driver. Gates says its stand at the Australian Auto Aftermarket Expo will be a must see for all distributors, resellers and workshops to learn about new products they can offer their customers and help increase sales. Gates is a global manufacturer of innovative, highly engineered power transmission and fluid power solutions. It offers a broad portfolio of products to diverse replacement channel customers, and to original equipment manufacturers as specified components. Gates products are sold in 128 countries across four commercial regions: the Americas; Europe, Middle East and Africa; Greater China; and East Asia and India. AUSSIE INGENUITY ON DISPLAY

Penrite is excited to exhibit its products at the AAA Expo, including its innovative Enviro Box

Penrite Oil is a 100 percent Australian family owned and operated business and has been producing world class lubricants for over 95 years. Employing Australians and investing in local manufacturing and production is a key Penrite philosophy as well as reducing the carbon footprint for future generations of Australians. Penrite operates two manufacturing facilities in Australia and has further committed to reducing its environmental impact with the installation of a 140Kw solar PV system at its Dandenong South (Victoria, Australia) production facility. Penrite says it continues to strive to minimise any environmental impact and by installing the solar system, Penrite can produce up to 35 times more solar power than an average Australian household. This enables Penrite to power its entire production facility and significantly reduce its carbon footprint by not having to rely on fossil fuel generated energy. Saving the planet and reducing carbon footprints and fossil fuel consumption continues to grow with every generation. Unlike fossil fuels, solar panels generate electricity with no air or carbon pollution; no ash or other waste products; and no inputs other than sunlight. The installation of commercial solar panels is in line with its Environmental Commitment, which already includes being a signatory to the Australian Packaging Covenant (APCO), choosing to use 100 percent recycled packaging across most of the product range and using 100 percent Recyclable Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certified cardboard cartons. Penrite further reduces its carbon footprint by supplying selected products in its ENVIRO BOX 20 Litre bag in a cardboard box packaging to the trade, that reduces packaging waste by 85 percent. The introduction of the ENVIRO BOX has meant a reduction in the number of 20 litre HDPE packs that are put into landfill waste by using recyclable plastic and cardboard packaging that complies with APCO (Australian Packaging Covenant) tertiary primary and secondary packaging requirements. Penrite strives to minimise any environmental impact by reducing emissions and developing safe and sustainable production, packaging, storage and distribution methodologies. Penrite has also invested in further environmental savings by installing a 30,000 litre rainwater tank supplied by the production facility roof and having it plumbed through the factory and administrative toilet system, reducing the use for clean town water. The tank can hold enough water for up to 90 days’ use and over a year is estimated to save approximately 100,000 Litres of fresh water. Fast approaching 100 years of Australian production, Penrite says it continues to invest into the future for future Australians and continues to lead the way in lubricant manufacturing in Australia. Whether it be the latest specification product, packaging innovation or cleaner and more sustainable manufacturing, Penrite says it is the innovator that other companies follow. You can visit Penrite at the AAAExpo on Stand L24. To find out more about Penrite and its Australian Made products visit www.penriteoil.com.au

AUSSIE MADE AND ON DISPLAY

Century Yuasa Batteries are made in Australia and will be on-show at the AAAExpo

For over 90 years Century Batteries has been designing and building its iconic blue and yellow batteries right here in Australia and since September 2021 has proudly carried the official ‘Australian Made’ logo. The logo is Australia’s most recognised and widely used country of origin symbol and ensures products that carry the logo are certified as genuine Australian made products – which in Century’s case is something that has been going on for almost 100 years. In recent times Century has seen a resurgence of support for locally made products, with many consumers stating that they would be willing to pay more to purchase and support products which are Australian made – because the flow on effects for the Australian economy are profound. Thanks in part to its Australian manufacturing facility, Century currently employs over 600 people and puts over $100 million back into the local economy every year – with over 98 percent of components from their locally built battery range sourced from Australian suppliers. Century explains that the fact it designs and manufactures batteries in Australia also brings with it additional benefits. Because the products are built here, they can be tailored specifically to suit particular applications and also be designed to handle the harsh conditions that Australia is famous for. The benefit of building batteries in Australia also means that Century has a more consistent supply of locally held stock throughout the year. Century states that its network of 34 distribution centres across the country means that no matter where you are, there’s a dynamic supply of stock to service your business and help your customers. To help your business keep pace with the latest changes and advancements in the automotive arena, Century also offers resellers access to a comprehensive online battery training program. It is regularly updated with the latest battery technology and training information to ensure your workshop is powered with the most up-to-date information and skills when it comes to batteries. Century’s ‘Battery Finder’ portal also enables you to quickly choose the right battery for any vehicle, and even provides fitment instructions and a time estimate for the work – making it easy for you to produce quick and accurate quotes to your customers. To learn more about Century Yuasa’s extensive range of products and to understand how your business can benefit from becoming a stockist, Century Yuasa invites you to visit its team at the AAAExpo on Stand L10. NEW PRODUCTS ON-SHOW FROM CARBON OFFROAD

Carbon Offroad will exhibit a range of products at AAAExpo, including the new Carbon MegaPro Hitch

The Carbon MegaPro Hitch is manufactured from high grade 6061 T6 Aluminium and is carefully CNC machined to a beautiful finish, then it is anodised in a high-grade Type 3 Hard Anodised finish which Carbon Offroad says allows for years of trouble free use. The Carbon MegaPro Tow Hitch receiver is a multifit recovery point allowing for five different mounting orientations to suit all types of 50mm receiver hitches, whether they are shallow or deep style. The hitch also can be used for both soft and hard shackles, with its smooth radius edges for soft shackles and a flat internal section for bow shackles. Not every company likes to share their test data, but it always makes for an interesting read. Shown here is the Carbon MegaPro Hitch mounted to the test machine at Mechtest in Brisbane. Carbon Offroad says you will notice that the hitch is still in one piece with a slight deformation from the mounting anchor pin bending then eventually snapping in half. Before the pin snapped it saw 19,833kgf (almost 20 Tonne). Now, at an educated guess, Carbon Offroad says we will probably see figures in the high 35 to 40 Tonne range if it is able to get a pin to hold up in the test. The Carbon MegaPro Hitch retails for $69.99RRP and is available for purchase online and at Carbon Dealers around the country. The Carbon Offroad stand (P35) at the Australian Auto Aftermarket Expo (AAAExpo) will feature not only the Carbon MegaPro Hitch but also its new line up of Carbon Scout Pro Winches in the XD Series with a new 15,000lb winch tailored to the larger 4WD market of Dodge Rams, 79 series Landcruisers, Chevy Silverado’s and alike. Carbon Offroad will also have a new 12,000lb winch with a bigger seven hp motor and also a “super fast” 9000lb winch in the same series on show. While visiting the Carbon Offroad stand, you will also be able to take a look at its new range of 4x4 suspension catering for the modern dual cab and full size 4WD market focused on height adjustable monotube shock design. MOLNAR ON SHOW

The renowned hoist manufacturer will be onshow at the AAAExpo

At Stand H10 during the Australian Auto Aftermarket Expo (AAAExpo), Molnar says it will be ‘lifting the level’ again with innovative products, showcasing the next generation of the proven SM245-B 2-post hoist. New features include higher working height and the patented “Signum” arm lock alarm. Molnar says it is the small details and the “Signum” which make its products efficient, ergonomic and very safe. Molnar will showcase German made in-ground hoist technology with an operational demo unit at its AAAExpo stand, demonstrating the most common lifting arm executions. These inground hoists feature a high-pressure system, biodegradable oil and five-year warranty. Molnar states that Australian EV-car workshops are working with these currently.

This year Molnar is also showing a unique Electro-Mechanical two-post hoist with a fiveyear warranty, manufactured within the Group’s Denmark factory. A cold-rolled spindle with Nylon lifting nut set is only one of the features which make this hoist relatively service free. This hoist is also designed for lifting EV-cars. Molnar says Australian made genuine spare parts and accessories will also be on display to emphasise the importance of using only genuine spare parts for your Molnar hoists to maintain hoist longevity. Molnar says that is not all you can expect to see at Stand H10, explaining that it will be introducing a new strong workshop equipment brand to the Australian and New Zealand Market: Dunlop Workshop Equipment. With this equipment range, Molnar says it is going back to its roots, stating it has been 50 years since Frank Molnar opened the green Dragon Steering and Wheel Alignment workshop. Now, it says Dunlop will be a strong brand for the “around the wheel” products well into the future. For more information, visit www.molnarhoists.com.au and www.stenhoj.com.au FRAM Filters says it is pleased to announce that it will be attending this year’s Australian Auto Aftermarket Expo (AAAExpo). FRAM designs, develops and manufactures filters to meet or exceed Original Equipment Manufacturer’s filtration specifications and its filters are supplied to some of the top OE vehicle brands. FRAM states its products are designed, engineered and manufactured inhouse, with multi-million dollar test rigs, giving them the capabilities to test OEM-ISO/SAE/JIC specifications. The Australian FRAM Filters range now includes 4WD Filter Kits, with a comprehensive range covering common 4WD applications. FRAM says that its 4WD Filter Kits are the solution for complete servicing requirements, containing oil filter, air filter, fuel filter, and cabin air filter where required. MORE THAN ROTORS, MORE APPLICATIONS

This is the philosophy DBA will present at the AAAExpo

More than rotors, more applications: this is how Disc Brakes Australia (DBA) will be presenting itself at this year’s Australian Auto Aftermarket Expo. DBA explains that having grown from a humble family business to Australia’s leading manufacturer and distributor of brake rotors, DBA today is much more than just ‘the disc.’ DBA says its product range is constantly growing and already includes products lines such as a marketcovering friction range (brake pads and shoes) and hydraulics (brake calipers and brake fluids). An extensive product program extension is currently underway, which will see the introduction of further hydraulic and electronic parts, amongst others. Secondly but no less important, DBA says it takes pride in the width of applications that form its product range, considered one of the pillars of its ongoing success. With a brake rotor and brake pad for over 97 percent of all passenger cars and light commercial vehicles on Australian roads, DBA states it truly saves its trade partners the need to shop around. But it doesn’t stop there – DBA believes that only the ‘right’ product for the application offers the customer the braking experience that they expect and deserve. Through its Sydney-based Research and Development team, DBA engineers and designs each product to the exact technical specifications, from OE replacement products to tough brake upgrades and high-performance racetrack applications. While OE specifications are always not just met but exceeded, DBA enhances its products further through its unique, patented range of technical innovations, such as its ‘Kangaroo Paw’ ventilation design and the T2 and T3 slotting patterns, or application-specific friction formulations and shim designs, to name a few. The full range of DBA’s OE replacement, upgrade and high-performance products will be on display at the Australian Auto Aftermarket Expo on Stand L44. For more information on DBA’s full braking range, visit www.dba.com.au or phone DBA Customer Service on 1800 730 039.
