December is already here! Wow, 2008 has flown by so quickly. We’ve had a tremendously successful media auction, and the club has raised $500 for the Books for Kids book drive, thanks to the generosity of some of our members. Just around the corner is ADDY® Awards, so enjoy the “Inside the ADDYs” luncheon and see if your work can compete with the best this market has to offer. The ADDYs this year will be held at the Louisiana State Museum — a gorgeous building near the state capitol, and a perfect place for celebrating the best and the brightest. Please take every opportunity that comes your way.

The Louisiana State Museum - Baton Rouge, one of the newest additions to the state’s museum system, will roll out the red carpet on Feb. 28, 2009 for the ADDY Awards. The 69,000 squarefoot facility features thematic exhibits on the diverse aspects of Louisiana history, industry and culture. This elegant setting will serve as the perfect backdrop for a Hollywood-style Red Carpet Movie Premier, showcasing the creative talent and spirit of our local advertising community. Guests will receive complimentary admittance to the museum’s permanent exhibits. The Louisiana State Museum - Baton Rouge is located in the heart of downtown Baton Rouge at 660 North 4th Street. Help us brand the ADDY show! We know your creative ideas are just a mouse click away – so send us your suggestions for an ADDY show title based on the red carpet theme. The selected title will be used on ALL collateral for the show! The winner will be entered in the January drawing for TWO FREE tickets AND will receive a Super-Secret-Special ADDY prize for being so creative and clever. This is a fun and easy way to get involved in the club’s most prestigious event of the year! Got questions? Want to join the ADDY committee? Want to guess the show title? Just e-mail Josh Dickerhoof (adfedjosh@gmail.com) or Kelley Criscoe (adfedkelley @hotmail.com). Your participation is needed and greatly appreciated.
2009 Spring District Convention Sponsors It’s not too late to add your company or agency name to the list of distinguished sponsors of the 2009 District 7 Spring Convention, Every Member a King, hosted by our own AAF-BR club. We have sponsorships available at all levels, and we need your help to make this event successful. Sponsorships help offset the convention costs and expenses and keep our club’s budget in the black. Not to mention the incredible opportunity to showcase Baton Rouge among our District 7 peers, including Memphis, Nashville, Birmingham, Mobile, New Orleans, Atlanta, Knoxville, Chattanooga and Tuscaloosa. Even if you or your company cannot be a convention sponsor, you can still help and be rewarded for your trouble! Use your influence in securing a potential sponsorship of $1,000 or more and you’ll receive a $100 gift certificate of your choice to Ruth’s Chris Steakhouse, Bumble Lane Spa or Whole Foods. For questions or assistance in closing the deal, please contact Jeff English at 931-6964 or jeffenglish@cox.net. We also welcome any leads – just give us your contact and we’ll make the call. For more information or a PDF of the Sponsorship Package, visit the website at www.adfedgbr.com, or contact Jeff English at 931-6964/jeffenglish@cox.net. What started out as a psychology class’ semester project at LSU is now a fully developed non-profit organization that has been serving the Baton Rouge community for 30 years. This year, AAF-BR has been given the opportunity to help this program rebrand their identity as well as help them celebrate this milestone anniversary. Our service project is now in full swing. Thanks to Mandy Porta and Rick Dobbs for submitting logo designs to rebrand the Big Buddy Program. We are currently waiting for the Big Buddy board to select a logo and then will move forward with giving them a fresh identity. If you are interested in helping rebrand this organization, please contact Aimee Shultz at aims385@ yahoo.com. If you are interested in becoming a Big Buddy, please visit www.bigbuddyprogram.net.

Thea Christy Creative Production Specialist Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Louisiana As Creative Production Specialist at Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Louisiana, I work closely with the creative and production teams prioritizing and organizing work flows and trafficking jobs from the time they are opened until production is complete. The end result is excellent customer service and quality products. Networking with peers who are interested in keeping up with what’s current, what’s hot, what’s selling and what’s not are reasons why I am excited about my new membership with Ad Fed. The club also provides a variety of viewpoints that can help me avoid pitfalls and/or find opportunities. And, participation in Ad Fed will allow me to give back, through public service initiatives. I look forward to contributing to Ad Fed now and in the future.

I’ve been in Ad Fed long enough that I still call it Ad Club. I’ve been a member since I graduated from LSU. First in Lafayette and then the Mississippi Gulf Coast before moving back to Baton Rouge, so I’ve been all over the 7th District (and I’m from New Orleans). I’m currently the web mistress and graphic designer at Woman’s Hospital. At LSU I said I’d never work at any place where they’re only allowed to use pink and gray and I’ve now been at Woman’s for 10 years! I’ve worked on various committees, and never missed an ADDY Awards. These days as a busy mother of five, I look forward to the Ad Fed meetings to stay on top of what’s going on with the industry. I love visiting there and the food is great at Jubans!

AAF-BR held its own book drive in conjunction with the national AAF’s efforts to benefit the Books for Kids Foundation (booksforkids.org). In October, AAF-BR donated $200 for 100 books at the Fall Board conference in Jackson, Tenn. At our November member meeting, we collected an additional $300 in monetary donations from members and the club kicked another $240, bringing our total contributions to $700. Much appreciation goes to Catherine Simpson and the Louisiana State Office of Benefits for contributing books.
