exploring the fine art galleries, the architecture, the history, and the curious and quaint shops. But first, we take a leisurely drive to acquaint you with the beauty of this world-renowned region, before inducting you into the wine-making process in a fascinating cellar tour. Of course you‘ll have a chance to taste the wine for which this area is renowned, and no doubt, you’ll leave with a favorite bottle or two under your arm. Stellenbosch is arguably one of the Province’s most beautiful towns.
Cape Winelands 18 years ago, on August 25, 1993, Amy made her transition from her eventful life on earth to an even larger life of committed service to the under-served and to the hopeful. The Amy Biehl Foundation draws breath and inspiration from Amy and her Legacy. It is a creation of family and friends who loved her in life, and is now extended by many hundreds of new friends young and old - who want to make a constructive difference in their world and who enjoy doing this in Amy's name. Amy's legacy is how she led her life. Hers is a legacy of inspiration, not tragedy. Amy was an extraordinary example of dedication, perseverance, courage, and compassion. She lived her life to the fullest, never accepting failure in any of her pursuits. It was her goal to become the best and to use her talents to improve the world. She believed it was her duty, as a person afforded opportunity and education, to actively seek social change for those not so fortunate. It was her dedication and courage that continues to inspire so many people throughout the world. Amy's legacy lives inside so many people. It drives her mother to continue her work and flourishes among the staff of the Amy Biehl Foundation Trust in Cape Town. Her legacy has inspired young people in the United States and has been a source of opportunity to thousands of South African youth. Perhaps most amazingly, her legacy lives through two men who played a big role in her death. Today, Ntobeko Peni and Easy Nofemela spread Amy's legacy throughout their community in South Africa. It is their transformation that truly represents the powerful legacy of Amy Biehl. Their transformation is what Amy was working for. Day 9
Johannesburg
Today after breakfast you will be taken on your full day private Journey to Freedom Tour. Many South Africans gave much; some gave all, to achieve a truly democratic South Africa. Come with us on this full day tour which shares some of the journey, pain and struggle of those heroes; witness the places, experience the diverse museums where these momentous, tumultuous years have been so well documented. Your day begins at the Hector Pieterson Museum, where we start to unravel the cause of the devastating riots, before travelling past Mandela House, where you have the option of visiting this small museum (own account). Your next significant stop is the fascinating Regina Mundi Church, site of so many of the underground meetings of the then banned political parties. Standing in here, you can feel the tension; picture the intensity, the strain on the faces of those unthinkably brave souls, committed at any cost to changing the way of life of a nation. You’ll have lunch at Sakhumzi Restaurant (included). Then visit the legendary Apartheid Museum. This is an interactive voyage of discovery, one which takes you from the dark days of ‘whites only’ privilege, through to Nelson Mandela’s historic release. The Apartheid Museum is a multimedia experience, with documentary film snippets, texts, sound clips and live accounts, recapturing life in the dark days of South Africa. It’s a fascinating tour, filled with tales of bravery and sadness, but ultimately, it’s a story with the right ending. Accommodation: 5 Star Luxury Hotel – 1 x 2 Bedroom Luxury Suites - Twin & Double (B, L)

After lunch you can cool off with a refreshing dip in the camp’s pool or spend the early afternoon watching the frolics of the resident family of hippo. Meeting once again over late afternoon tea, your guide will discuss the plans for the afternoon game drive. Head off in search of wildlife once again in the afternoon. Large herds of buffalo and families of elephant are likely to be found near the river at this time, drinking and splashing in the water before settling down for the night. The immense crocodiles in the Grumeti River will be basking on the shores in the dying light of the sun, while you may get a glimpse of hippo getting ready to emerge onto dry land for their night time graze. The area’s large prides of lion are likely to be on the move as they warm up for the nights hunt and the whooping calls of hyena can be heard as immense clans of up to a hundred individuals keep in touch with one another. Stop at a scenic spot for sundowners as the sun sinks beneath the endless plains before heading back to the luxury of the camp. You will have time to freshen up before a hearty and wholesome dinner enjoyed beneath the stars. Desert provides a last decadent and irresistible treat as you relax around a blazing fire and contemplate the latest day’s adventures on your African safari before heading back to your tent for a good night’s sleep. There is a wealth of predators in the area, with prides of lion often numbering more than twenty or thirty animals. Vying with the lions for dominance are extensive clans of hyena, which can consist of up to a hundred members, allowing for excellent daytime sightings. Leopard inhabit the thickets closer to river, while the wide open plains that stretch away from this area form the ideal habitat for cheetah.
