EXECUTIVE LEADERSHIP PROGRAM INTRODUCTORY SESSION June 28-July 1, 2012 • New York, NY ABOUT THE PROGRAM Do you want to move ahead in your newsroom? Do you sometimes wonder, “How did I get here?” or “Where am I going?” Do you want to develop your leadership potential? If you answered yes to any of the above questions, then the AAJA Executive Leadership Program (ELP) is for you. ELP is designed to help you make career decisions, enable you to find out where you are going and where you want to go, and assist you to become a stronger leader in your own newsroom. The program explores the responsibilities and challenges of the print, broadcast and online workplace and examines how Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) cultural values come into play in newsroom dynamics. In this intensive, four-day program, you will increase your understanding of the corporate environment and develop your own strategies for career advancement. Most importantly, you will learn how your own cultural values can be assets to excellence, as well as liabilities to effective leadership performance. Program topics include: • Career choices and goal setting • Understanding cultural values • Defining success • Negotiation training • Dealing with Pressure • Conquering your excuses • Self-management • Leadership strategies Leadership qualities need nurturing, so this is more than a one-time program. You will receive an individual development plan, coaching and networking opportunities. Program graduates are eligible for future advanced Executive Leadership Program sessions.
APPLICATION INFORMATION Qualifications Applicants must have a minimum of five years experience as print, broadcast, online journalists. Participants should show potential leadership ability. Tuition and Payment You must be a 2012 AAJA member to apply for the program. The tuition for ELP is $2,000. Admitted applicants will need to provide a $200 deposit by March 30th and full payment by April 23rd. Admitted applicants who cancel their registration after the April 23rd deadline will forfeit their deposit. The fee includes tuition, instructional materials and most meals. Hotel and transportation costs are not included. Checks are payable to AAJA. MasterCard, Visa, Diner’s Club, JCB, Discover or American Express credit cards are also accepted. ABOUT AAJA The Asian American Journalists Association (AAJA) is a nonprofit professional and educational organization with a mission to provide a means of association and support amongst Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders (AAPI) journalists; provide encouragement, information, advice and scholarship assistance to AAPI students who aspire to professional journalism careers; provide to the AAPI community an awareness of news media and an understanding how to gain fair access; and, research and point out when news media organizations stray from accuracy and fairness in the coverage of AAPIs.
