2019 Season Outlook Head coach Pete Cuadrado enters his eighth season at the helm of the Cowgirl soccer program in 2019. He and the Cowgirl team are looking forward to what the upcoming season can bring. “Overall we will have a team with a good amount of young players as compared to the past few seasons. So, we will look to our seniors to really guide these young players throughout the course of 2019. We have a great mix of players and their qualities should complement each other well. Our goalkeeping is one area that will continue to be a strong point for our team, which will be important given some of the players we have lost due to graduation.” Wyoming returns two starters and 14 letterwinners from last season’s squad that went 12-4-4 overall, 7-2-2 in the Mountain West and took home a share of the MW regular season title. In all, the squad consists of four seniors, five juniors, six sophomores and 12 freshmen. Several individuals will be looked upon to contribute during the 2019 campaign, including the seniors Michaela Stark and Summer Taube. Stark played in 14 of the Cowgirls games with two starts. She scored one goal, two assists and had five shots on goal. Taube completed her junior campaign with three goals, which included the game-winner against New Mexico. She also had two assists and 12 shots on goal in the 20 contests. “We have a great group of captains who are ready and willing to lead their peers. In most seasons, the leadership has been an outflow from the captains, and then to the seniors, so this year you will see more of our junior and sophomore class take up leadership roles within the team. The great part for us is that many of these players had to take on these roles this past spring, which we feel will be continued into the fall.” “Our seniors all offer something different to share with our young players. We have some who have dealt with injury and know how to overcome those situations, we have some who know how to handle being in the line up from a young age, and we have the experiences of having to be resilient on the field in tough times. So even though they are a smaller class, they have a great wealth of Senior forward Summer Taube experiences to help guide.” There will also bew a learning curve with the number of incoming freshmen, but Cuadrado feels its an experienced group. “What’s exciting is that almost every one of the incoming players can do a variety of things on the field, which really gives us flexibility to get them involved as needed. The more young players we can get exposure during the non-conference games, the better prepared we will be for the challenges during Mountain West play.” The Cowgirls will play one exhibition match before the official start of the season with a home contest against FC Boulder. It’s scheduled for Saturday, August 17 at 3 p.m. MT. Wyoming will open the 2019 season with two road contests against UTEP on Thurs., Aug. 22 and New Mexico State on Sun., Aug. 25. The Thursday night contest will be the first meeting with the Miners since a 2017 match that the Cowgirls won, 3-1. It will be the fourth meeting between the Cowgirls and the Aggies. The Cowgirls will open up a four-game homestand on Wed., Aug. 28 against the Northern Colorado Bears. The Cowgirls carry the longest nonconference home unbeaten streak among D-I programs into this season, holding a 13-0-3 record dating back to the 2013 season. The Cowgirls will welcome Baylor (Sept. 6) to Laramie for the first time in school history. The two met previously in 2017 with the Bears coming out on top with a 2-1 double overtime victory. Three more regional rivals follow with a contest against Idaho State on Sun., Sept. 8 and Southern Utah on the following Friday and Montana on Sunday, Sept. 15 in Missoula. The Cowgirls will conclude their nonconference slate against South Dakota on Thurs., Sept. 19. The match is scheduled to be played at Thunder Basin High School in Gillette. “As in year’s past, our schedule is really set up to challenge us on the field and in terms of the travel we will see within conference play. The Mountain West Senior forward Michaela Stark is so diverse in it’s teams and venues that our non-conference slate usually tries to capture many of those elements. We will play a good number of physical teams, and that will probably be one of the biggest impacts for us moving into MWC play. Hosting Baylor on September 6th will be a great home match, and will really replicate any big game we will play in later on in the season. Also, we’re very excited to get out to Gillette on September 19th and play in front of the great soccer community there. Their players and coaches do such a great job of creating a good soccer culture that we’re looking forward to playing in a different home-field environment.” Wyoming will face all 11 other Mountain West teams during the regular season, starting with two home contests to open conference play. They welcome San Diego State on Fri., Sept. 27, followed by New Mexico on Sunday. The Cowgirls first conference road trip will be against Air Force and Colorado College will be followed up with four straight home matches during the middle of October. UW will host defending tournament champion San Jose State on Sunday, Oct. 11 and the Fresno State Bulldogs on Sunday, Oct. 13. Boise State will make a trip to Laramie on Fri., Oct. 18 while the last home match of the season will be on Sunday, Oct. 20 against the Utah State Aggies. UW will wrap up the regular season on the road for the final three matches beginning on Oct. 25 against the UNLV Lady Rebels. On Oct. 27, the Cowgirls will face the Nevada Wolf Pack in Reno. The annual Border War will conclude the 2019 campaign on Nov. 1. All regular season games will be played on Fridays and Sundays, except for the non-conference road contests against UTEP and South Dakota which are scheduled for Thursdays. The Mountain West Tournament will run Nov. 5-9 in Boise, Idaho, hosted by the Boise State Broncos.

The Cowgirls made history in 2016, posting their third-straight season with at least 10 wins for the first time in program history. Wyoming finished the season 10-8-2 and earned its fourthconsecutive Mountain West playoff berth, one of only two schools in the conference to do so. Cuadrado led the Cowgirls to a 10-6-4 overall record in 2015 and 6-4-1 record in the league. In 2014, he posted an 11-9-1 overall record. During the 2014 season, Cuadrado received MW Coach of the Year accolades by leading the Cowgirls to an 8-3 mark in league play and a second-place finish. He also coached Wyoming to a perfect 6-0-0 record at the Louis S. Madrid Sports Complex for the first undefeated home record in program history. Wyoming Soccer Facilities

The Louis S. Madrid Sports Complex is one of the most attractive soccer complexes in the nation. It is located a block east of the Wyoming Athletics Department, has a view of the beautiful Laramie Mountain Range to the East and is surrounded by mature pine trees. The complex seats 1,500 fans for soccer as well as for track and field. The complex is named for Louis S. Madrid, a former Wyoming track letterman who competed for the Cowboys from 1952 through 1955. Thanks to a generous gift from the Madrid estate, as well as contributions from families and fans honoring eight Wyoming track athletes that were tragically killed in a 2001 car accident, a track was constructed around the perimeter of the soccer field in the summer of 2006. The track, named the Memorial Eight Track, is named in memory of those eight track athletes. Beginning in the fall of 2006, the Louis S. Madrid Complex became the outdoor home to the Wyoming track and field team. The Madrid Complex has been friendly to the Cowgirls as they have won more than 65 games in its 17 year history. The Cowgirl soccer team now has the luxury of an indoor practice facility. In the fall of 2007, construction was completed Wyoming’s new Indoor Practice Facility, located adjacent to Jonah Field at War Memorial Stadium. The field is mostly used by the Wyoming football and soccer teams but ultimately benefits all student athletes at Wyoming. The facility was constructed at a cost of $11 million, and includes approximately 80,000 square feet of practice area. The field is covered with Desso Challenge Pro 60, a state of the art artificial surface which was also installed at Jonah Field at War Memorial Stadium in the summer of 2005.
