2017 Season Outlook Head coach Pete Cuadrado enters his sixth season at the helm of the Cowgirl soccer program in 2017. He and the team are looking to fulfill their goal of winning the Mountain West Championship. The team was picked to finish fifth in the conference by the preseason Mountain West Coaches’ Poll. “It’s about where I expected us to be. We have higher goals than that and we hope to achieve those, but we have to go out there and prove it,” head coach Pete Cuadrado said. “Let’s face it, the teams at the top have been there the last few years and we’ve been right outside of that. If we want to be included in that group, we have to make sure we earn it on the field. We have the opportunity to do that this season and I’m excited to see what we can do.” Wyoming returns the majority of its starters and goal scoring from last season’s squad that finished the year 10-8-2 and 6-4-1 in the MW, logging a third-straight 10-win season for the first time in program history. Sophomore forward Michaela Stark led UW last season with six goals and earned a spot on the MW All-Newcomer team. This season’s team will be captained by a trio of seniors, including goalkeeper Georgia Rowntree, defender Claire Parker and forward Alisha Bass. All three started every game last year for the Cowgirls. Bass recorded three goals and four assists, while Parker and Rowntree anchored one of the strongest defenses in the conference. Rowntree’s eight shutouts were tied for the most among MW goalkeepers. Senior Summer Halle and sophomore Brooklynn Mooney will lead the group of midfielders, and also bring back a wealth of experience. Both played in all 20 games last season, and Halle netted three goals while Mooney scored one goal. Sophomore forward Michaela Stark For the second-consecutive year, the Cowgirls will start their season hosting an exhibition matchup in Hastings, Neb. Wyoming will face off with South Dakota State on Friday, Aug. 11, in their only preseason game before opening the 2017 campaign at Baylor on Sunday, Aug. 20. The Cowgirls will play their first home match of the year on Friday, Aug. 25, against Southern Utah looking to extend their home winning streak against nonconference opponents that dates back to the 2013 season. Wyoming then faces a quick turnaround with a road contest against the Kentucky Wildcats on Sunday, Aug. 27. The Cowgirls return home for the first of three weekend home stretches on Sept. 1 and 3. Wyoming will face UTEP on Friday before a contest with McNeese State on Sunday afternoon. The final road nonconference game will be in Ogden, Utah, against Utah Valley in a rematch of last season’s double-overtime thriller. Home matchups against Northern Colorado and Idaho State round out the nonconference portion of the schedule. “We’re excited about the quality of teams we will face this season, both in non-conference and then certainly against the Mountain West.” UW head coach Pete Cuadrado said. “Baylor and Kentucky on the road are good tests for our team. Facing UTEP at home is a good opportunity after last season’s game in El Paso. Northern Colorado is a great rivalry, and getting another win over Utah Valley would be big.” Senior forward Alisha Bass The Cowgirls open Mountain West play in Colorado Springs, Colo., against Colorado College on Sept. 22 and Air Force on Sept. 24. Five of Wyoming’s 10 conference games will be played at home, starting with Fresno State on Sept. 29 and San Jose State on Oct. 1. A road swing to Nevada the following weekend will match the Cowgirls with the Nevada Wolfpack on Oct. 6 and UNLV on Oct. 8. Wyoming will welcome Utah State to the Louis S. Madrid Complex on Oct. 13 followed by Boise State on Oct. 15. San Diego State will host the Cowgirls on Oct. 20 before UW and concludes its home slate against New Mexico on Oct. 22. The regular season finale is a road game against conference rival Colorado State on Oct. 27. All regular season games will be played on Fridays and Sundays, except for a home game against Idaho State on Thursday, Sept. 14. The Mountain West Tournament will run from Oct. 31 to Nov. 4 in Las Vegas, Nev., hosted by UNLV. Senior goalkeeper Georgia Rowntree

Wyoming Soccer Facilities
The Louis S. Madrid Sports Complex is one of the most attractive soccer complexes in the nation. It is located a block east of the Wyoming Athletics Department, has a view of the beautiful Laramie Mountain Range to the East and is surrounded by mature pine trees. The complex seats 1,500 fans for soccer as well as for track and field. The complex is named for Louis S. Madrid, a former Wyoming track letterman who competed for the Cowboys from 1952 through 1955. Thanks to a generous gift from the Madrid estate, as well as contributions from families and fans honoring eight Wyoming track athletes that were tragically killed in a 2001 car accident, a track was constructed around the perimeter of the soccer field in the summer of 2006. The track, named the Memorial Eight Track, is named in memory of those eight track athletes. Beginning in the fall of 2006, the Louis S. Madrid Complex became the outdoor home to the Wyoming track and field team. The Madrid Complex has been friendly to the Cowgirls as they have won more than 65 games in its 17 year history. The Cowgirl soccer team now has the luxury of an indoor practice facility. In the fall of 2007, construction was completed Wyoming’s new Indoor Practice Facility, located adjacent to Jonah Field at War Memorial Stadium. The field is mostly used by the Wyoming football and soccer teams but ultimately benefits all student athletes at Wyoming. The facility was constructed at a cost of $11 million, and includes approximately 80,000 square feet of practice area. The field is covered with Desso Challenge Pro 60, a state of the art artificial surface which was also installed at Jonah Field at War Memorial Stadium in the summer of 2005.
