AAPM is committed to providing a safe and productive meeting environment that fosters open dialogue and the exchange of professional and scientific ideas, promotes equal opportunities and treatment for all participants, and is free of harassment and discrimination. AAPM prohibits any form of harassment, sexual or otherwise, as well as other unprofessional behavior at its meetings and social events.

This Code of Conduct outlines AAPM’s expectations for all meeting attendees, speakers, exhibitors, staff, contractors, and guests at AAPM meetings and social events. All participants in attendance are expected to abide by this Code of Conduct to help ensure a pleasant and safe meeting experience. All participants are expected to treat others with respect, professionalism, and consideration and to uphold standards of scientific integrity and professional ethics, as described in the AAPM Code of Ethics.

DEFINITIONS

Behavior that is welcome or acceptable to one person may be unwelcome or offensive to another. Consequently, individuals must use discretion to ensure that their words and actions communicate respect for others. This is particularly important for those in positions of authority since individuals with lower rank or status may be reluctant to express their objections or discomfort regarding unwelcome behavior.

Harassment intended in a joking manner still constitutes unacceptable behavior.

Dear colleagues and friends,

It is with excitement and anticipation that I welcome you to AAPM’s 65th Annual Meeting & Exhibition at the George R. Brown Convention Center in Houston. Home to nearly 2 billion dollars in life science research and 10 million patient encounters annually, Houston is a city with world-class arts, dining, shopping, Space Center, and more. But more importantly, it is a city renowned to us for its medical physics scholarship and practice, and the host of our well-celebrated 50th anniversary meeting in 2008. The 2023 meeting is building upon this strong legacy and will make a new statement of its own. The theme of the conference is “The Art of Science, The Science of Care.” This theme reminds us of the privilege of being a medical physicist, a vocation rooted in ingenuity, imagination, and creativity (the art, if you will), which is then enacted within a field that is one of the highest embodiments of human intelligence (physics), and all that, then translated into a practice with direct benefit to human health. Isn’t that amazing? Ours is a high calling: the dignity of caring, and the opportunity to put our thoughts and hearts towards a higher purpose. And we do these as a community — collectively, thus the Annual Meeting.

The Presidential Symposium will include prominent artists and thought leaders, who will illuminate these topics followed by five days of world-class scientific, educational, and professional sessions that echo this theme. The technical exhibit has offerings of its own on the latest products and services, with unique opportunities for one-on-one connection with vendors. One thing the pandemic has taught us is the value of our community and cooperation. We are more and can do more when we are together. What makes AAPM special is us. Ideas without a community cannot really advance human welfare on their own. As a community, we all strive towards

the same goal — advancing human welfare. We are therefore better off when we are together. So, I am thrilled you are taking advantage of this opportunity that is being provided for you by your own peers. And now, let’s be together, shape our discipline together, and make new memories together!

Badge Scanning for Entry!

Instead of relying on paper tickets, we have implemented scanners to grant access to all sessions and special events. It is essential that you wear your badge throughout the event in order to be scanned and granted entry to session rooms and events.

When applicable, Monday & Wednesday lunch vouchers, event specialty meals, and alcoholic drink tickets will still be printed along with your badge. It is important to remember to bring these tickets with you to the events.

CONTINUING EDUCATION

Online Evaluation System

The Online Evaluation System will remain open until September 7, 2023, at 11:59 PM ET. Attendees must complete the appropriate evaluation survey per session attended or viewed to obtain credit. You are encouraged to evaluate in real-time. Complimentary WiFi will also be available if you wish to use your laptop, mobile phone, or tablet.

Please Note: Your Confirmation Number/Badge ID and Last Name are required to access the evaluation system.

AAPM will report/release credits earned by Monday, September 18, 2023.

Medical Physicists

AAPM will apply to the Commission on Accreditation of Medical Physics Education Programs, Inc. (CAMPEP) for approval of the AAPM 65th Annual Meeting & Exhibition, including the Review Courses, for Medical Physics Continuing Education Credits (MPCEC). AAPM will also request up to eight (8) credit hours for general ePoster viewing. MPCEC hours are calculated based upon session duration. Example: (60 minutes = 1 credit / 90 minutes = 1.5 credits).

Medical Dosimetrists

AAPM will apply to the Medical Dosimetrist Certification Board (MDCB) for approval of MDCB CMD credits for the 65th Annual Meeting & Exhibition. To obtain credit, attendees must attend/ view each session in its entirety and complete an online evaluation survey. Registration Badge ID and CMD Number are required.

Camp AAPM welcomes children 6 months to 12 years, with full and half-day options available.
