Auxiliary Annual Meeting & Brunch June 28, 9:30 am - 11:00 am Everyone is welcome to attend the Auxiliary’s annual brunch followed by a brief business meeting. The AAPS Auxiliary is open to all family members, partners and/or significant others of AAPS members. Auxiliary dues are $60 per year.

Exam Development Workshops NEW THIS YEAR: Each specialty has been assigned a dedicated time to work with Certification Staff. Diplomates will only be permitted to participate during their scheduled specialty workshop. See schedule for details.

Based on the current need for each specialty, activities performed during this workshop may include item review and approval, review of candidate comments, writing and review of oral examination cases, item referencing, and written examination review. Open to BOC/Committee Members only. Requires at least 5 participants per specialty.

Introduction to Item Writing (Saturday, June 27)

This session will consist of a presentation to orient you to the item writing process. The main focus will be on item development including requirements for item writing, acceptable item formats, style guidelines, item classifications, and item review and approval process. A step-by-step demonstration of the online item writing system will immediately follow. Open to Diplomates only. Advance registration required. This activity is not eligible for CME credit.

PRACTICAL ISSUES AND APPROACHES WEDNESDAY, JULY 1 Medical Ethics registration required This course provides a solid conceptual grounding in medical ethics, while focusing on practical issues and tested approaches for resolving such issues. Recertification Credit: This course fulfills the ABPS recertification requirement for Medical Ethics. CME credit earned for attending this course may also be applied to CME recertification requirements.

COURSE OBJECTIVES

Upon completion of this program, participants should be able to: 1. Understand the theoretical and historical foundations of medical ethics;

5. Recognize the stakeholders in medical ethics decisions and weigh stakeholder ethical perspectives; and

2. Engage in allocation of resources decisions;

6. Guide public discussion of medical ethics issues and explain the perspectives of medical professionals on such issues.

3. Apply ethical decision-making tools to actual circumstances; 4. Understand the appropriate roles of medical ethics/bioethics committees and be able to constructively contribute to these committees;

CANCELLATION POLICY:

Written cancellations must be received by the AAPS Meetings Department prior to May 15, 2015, in order to receive a full refund of Meeting Registration Fees, less a $100 processing fee. Cancellations received after this date will not be accepted.
