Integrative Medicine Comes of Age The formation of ABOIMÂŽ marked an important milestone in the evolution and maturation of the field. ABOIM certification created a benchmark in this emerging specialty through rigorous testing and standards, taking integrative medicine to a new level of recognition and credibility among the general public and in academic circles.

Eligibility Requirements Physician candidates who wish to seek board certification from ABOIM® must meet the following eligibility requirements among others:
Completion of residency training in a program approved by the Accreditation Council of Graduate Medical Education (ACGME), the American Osteopathic Association (AOA), the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (RCPSC) or the College of Family Physicians of Canada (CFPC) or have a current board certification granted on or before December 1, 2001 AND
Current or previous board certification granted by the ABPS, the American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS), the American Osteopathic Association (AOA), the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (RCPSC), or the College of Family Physicians of Canada (CFPC) AND
Applicants must also qualify under one of the following: Completion of an ABOIM-approved Fellowship in Integrative Medicine OR Graduation from an accredited four-year naturopathic college OR Graduation from an accredited Accreditation Certification Commission on Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (ACAOM) college OR Graduation from an accredited Council on Chiropractic Education (CCE) college.
