2012 Partnerships
President’s Message Partnerships are the foundation for our shared success in educating students to meet community workforce demands. We at Santa Fe deeply value these partnerships, both public and private, that give our students the opportunity to pursue their dreams for careers while fulfilling the diverse needs of a growing regional economy. Our partners are our life lines to new ideas, new trends and new technologies. The personal collaboration between professors in the classroom and professionals who serve on Santa Fe’s Advisory Councils allows us to keep abreast of the latest advances in the field and tailor our curriculum to the changing job market. It is important to you, us and most of all the student that the education he or she receives is relevant. The ability to enhance the student’s learning experience while combining on-the-job training and real-world advice is bolstered by the financial support and in-kind services from our partners. This help is at once practical and visionary. These partnerships are more important than ever. We at Santa Fe look forward to continuing our mutual efforts in expanding career opportunities for students and contributing to the economic well-being in our communities.

Baccalaureate Programs Clinical Laboratory Science Early Childhood Education Health Services Administration Nursing
Santa Fe College began offering Baccalaureate degrees
in Fall 2009. The announcement of this new direction for the college has been met with great enthusiasm among current and prospective SF students.
Clinical Laboratory Science The Bachelor of Applied Science program in Clinical Laboratory Science prepares students to enter the workforce as Clinical Laboratory Technologists or Medical Technologists. In this profession, graduates are responsible for developing, performing, and evaluating laboratory tests used in medical diagnostics and clinical research. As part of their baccalaureate program, graduates typically focus their health-related clinical capstone on a specialty area in which they will eventually seek employment such as chemistry, hematology, or microbiology. Clinical Laboratory Science degree courses are taught primarily at the college’s new center in Alachua: the Charles R. and Nancy V. Perry Emerging Technologies Center. This BAS program also requires extensive clinical laboratory rotations, so students should expect to spend time in local hospitals and clinical sites in the senior year. Director: Dr. Kelly Gridley, Perry Center for Emerging Technologies, Alachua (352) 381-5687 Advisor: Sabrina Thrower PA-102 (352) 381-3754

Early Childhood Education The Bachelor of Science in Early Childhood Education includes classes covering preschool curriculum, social and emotional development, classroom management, and developmentally appropriate practices. For practical experience, students utilize Santa Fe’s Little School, an on-campus preschool program for children ages 14 months to 5 years, including two prekindergarten classes. Bachelor’s degree programs like Santa Fe’s help elevate the status of early childhood education by raising the pay scale of preschool teachers and retaining more students hoping to earn higher degrees. In the past, teachers wanting to earn bachelor’s degrees in early childhood education often had to switch focuses because more advanced degrees simply were not offered in the field. Director: Dr. Tyran Butler B-214 (352) 395-5350 Advisor: TBA
Health Services Administration The Bachelor of Applied Science program in Health Services Administration is an online program that prepares students to enter the workforce as Medical/ Health Services managers. In this profession, graduates are responsible for planning, directing, coordinating, and supervising the delivery of health care. They may be specialists managing specific clinical departments or generalists managing a facility or system. Their work as managers involves a complex array of factors impacting today’s health care environment: technology, regulations, accreditation, innovation in treatment and delivery, system finance, and insurance reimbursement. Courses in the Health Services Administration degree are taught almost entirely online with the exception of a final capstone internship class that is taught in the field. Director: Dr. James A. Geason C-107 (352) 395-5135 Coordinator: Dr. Kezia Awadzi A-007K (352) 395-5335 Advisors: Doug Robertson C-102 (352) 395-5139 Scott Fortner and Sari Sanborn W-002 (352) 395-5650
Nursing The Bachelor of Sciences in Nursing Completion Program is a limited access program designed for registered nurses who are graduates of an accredited associate of science in nursing degree program (ASN). Upper division coursework will consist of 30 credit hours addressing topics related to leadership and management, nursing theory, research, culture, pharmacology, community health, and population-based nursing across the lifespan. The coursework will be completed mainly online in asynchronous instruction. There will be one course with a lab experience and two courses with local clinical experiences. All BSN degree seeking students are required to complete the same basic requirements as traditional baccalaureate students, including general education courses and demonstration of foreign language competence. The Bachelor of Science in Nursing Completion Program adheres to the state’s common course prerequisites. Due to the specialized nature of the BSN Completion Program, individuals are required to consult with an academic advisor when applying for admission. The program is planning an initial site visit for accreditation. Director: Lois Ellis W-201 (352) 395-5731 Coordinator: Susan Beverung W-264 (352) 395-5747 Advisors: Scott Fortner and Sari Sanborn W-002 (352) 395-5650
