PERSONAL PROJECT KIMONO : Save The Legacy Space Saving Dining Furniture Integrating history and culture
3 weeks
The kimono culture is fading and only a few people wear Kimono and follow in it’s culture. People wear more western clothes on an everyday basis.
KIMONO CULTURE
What was once part of everyday culture is now only used for special occasions and ceremonies in Japanese tradition.
THEN
NOW
The target user is the urban youth of Japan, as they are distanced from their culture, with reviving it being the goal of the project.
URBAN JAPAN
Space is at a premium in urban Japanese areas. Most youth live in small apartments, making traditional ceremonies inaccessible for them.
Expanding Frames Multiple Panels
Easy Movement Mechanical Expansion
IDEATION+EXPLORATION Different possibilities of having expansion integrated into the structure of the table, to allow it to be compact and easy to stow away.
Fabric Tension
Direct Link
Wood Kerfing
IDEATION+EXPLORATION
Innovative ideas to define how space saving furniture could be redefined, while maintaining a link with the heritage and culture of the Kimono.
Customizability
FOLDOVER
Compact, space saving dining.
COMPACT STRUCTURE
The table has a kerfed wood structure, to enable it to bend to form a table when required. The diagonal cuts allow it to bend in 2 directions creating the final form.
WOOD KERFING
The cuts made in the wood allow it to bend to take up a curved form. The depth will regulate the extent of bending.
THE KIMONO LINK
A unibody structure with a top view inspired by the neckline of a kimono. The structure can fold over itself to form the table. The use of customizable and interchangeable fabric strengthens the link.
USED DIFFERENTLY
The unique structure allows it to be used in in multiple ways; as a bench or a table and seat, or even combining more than one together.

The design language of the brand guided the selection of a design with a bold yet understated design with the emphasis on the silhouette and not on multiple surfaces.
Bold silhouette
Ribbed bottle top for grip
The Lattissima Plus has a simpler design than the other Nespresso products. The cuboidal structure and the additional milk container offers the opportunity to incorporate the Hugo Boss design language.
Containers Bold but understated

Integrating Identity
IDEATION+EXPLORATION Integrating the dna of both Nespresso and Hugo Boss into the design of the coffee machine. The primary inspiration were the Hugo Boss perfume bottles.

A new blend of exclusivity.
COFFEE REDESIGNED
The Lattissima Plus re-envisioned through the brand identity of Hugo Boss combining the brand values of both brands.
Compartments designed to form flush surfaces, matching some of the classic Hugo Boss perfume bottle designs, which were the inspiration.
IT’S ALL IN THE DETAILS
Flush surfaces, a nozzle that is visible only when functional, touch sensitive buttons, knobs inspired by the Boss perfume bottle covers and a redesigned capsule tray are the little details that finish off the concept.
The coffee machine is intended to look at home in a modern environment
A comparison between the redesigned and original coffee machines
INTEGRATED DNA
Different compartments and parts of the machine are specifically designed so that the product has clean flush surfaces when not in use.

CYCLING SIGNALS
Signals involve multiple arm and hand movements and can be complicated for amateur riders.
Hand Signals
The information needs to be conveyed as intuitively as possible, taking the minimum of the riders’ attention away from the road.
INFO QUALITY
There are only solutions to simplify communicating the action of turning. Other signals continue to be given through hand gestures.
Low Road Visibility Signals impede riders
Increased Proximity while turning
