Introduction My work placement is at Kelsey Park Sports College. In this work placement I am working within display and marketing departement where I helped to develop and advertise the Sports College to new students and parents. Helping to create a nicer environment for the school staff and students to work in.
Knowledge and Understanding What i hope to have when i have completed the work placement is the understanding and knowledge about how ‘context is half of the work’ Within the environment there are many different contexts, ranging from different groups of people (or packs) to the difference in new and old buildings. The context of machinery is also present within a school environment, as is the context looking at time. I expect by the end of this artists placement to have a clear and thorough understanding about one context within a school environment and that once a context is assumed it creates most of the work itself. The underlying principles to APG’s notion are to have creative engagement between the artist and the host or organization. The idea being that artists could have a positive effect in an industry through their creativity and conventions. The concept of the artist placement is to have a minimum of a one month placement in which an artist will study within. The point of an artist placement is so that creative people can work within government and in businesses to gain experience and also have to opportunity to create projects not necessarily for the organizations in which they are working in or for.

Practical Skills Use Web application Twitter to blog and upload photographs, so that I am able to build a database and gain followers which will later help me when working within an artistic environment. Main aim of this is for me to learn by using the web, how I can extend my professional contacts within the working environment. The placement should extend my Adobe CS skills in InDesign and Photoshop, as well as improve my planning and presentation due to putting up displays.

Transferable Skills The transferable skills which I expect to gain with this work placement are to work within a team which allows me creative freedom, this being transferable to other jobs within the creative/artistic industry. Also to get creative work done on time as well communicating with other people to construct exactly what it is that the school is after. I also will have learnt how to create a creative Curriculum Vitae and a well written cover letter. Also that it is important to have different cover letters for different organizations to which I may apply, as is important to target the correct audience of the application. I have also learnt how to construct a personal electronic portfolio of my work which can be shown to businesses as well as a website were my work can be looked at and ways in which I can be contacted.
